Once upon a time in a kingdom far, far away lived a queen. She was one of the most beautiful women in the world but she was very evil witch. One of the few, if not only things that mattered to her was to look beautiful and young and therefore she used magic to take the youth from young women. Queen Isadora also wanted to be the only one with magic so when she met another mage she toke their magic away giving her their powers. Her name was Isadora.
It also lived an even more beautiful elf princess. Also she had a great skill of magic. Everyone admired her, but what they didn’t know was that she was cursed.
One day when the elf was in the forest she was caught by the human queen’s guards. If it had only been one she could easy have ran away, but they were too many. The guards toke her to the queen.
“So, what do we got here?” the queen said teasingly. “Isn’t it a young elf? What were you doing in my forest?” The elf didn’t respond. “Do you know what I do to young women like you running around in the forest were they have no right to be? I take their youth, their lives, leaving nothing but a withered skin.” Isadora stared at the elf.
“Why would you take my youth, you do already look so young. How old are you?” the elf asked with an almost singing voice.
“I am eighty-seven,” Queen Isadora responded.
The elf looked surprised. “You do not look that old, how could that be true? I wouldn’t guess that you were over thirty.” “It is truth, but truth is not always appearance,” Queen Isadora said. “I have lived in eighty-seven years, but physically I am like a thirty year old.” The queen smiled. “And now maybe I should start taking your magic. You see, I won’t allow anyone except me to be able to control things.”
“That is impossible,” the elf said.
“And why do you think that, little elf?” The queen was annoyed. “Magic is the bloodstream of the universe. If no one except you will have magic, the universe is going to fall. It needs more than one mage to carry the whole world, even if she has all the magic existing.”
“Well, if that’s how it is, maybe I am just going to kill all the elves.” The elf twitched. “Yes, that’s true, little elf. I can kill all of the elves with just lifting a hand. And if the elves disappear I will be the most powerful in the whole world.”
The elf thought about how much Isadora wanted a long life and then she suddenly remembered a story she had heard home in her castle. It was about a human man who married a beautiful elf lady named Renae.
The two of them lived happy together, until one day the Renae was killed by a human sword.
The man missed Renae very much and he couldn’t stand living without her. He sat by her side for days.
So the man forged two magical rings, one that controlled life and one that controlled death; one that made it possible for you to deside where your life were going and one that made it possible to bring the dead ones back. Whit them he should bring his wife back to life and control his own so that he would never lose her.
But something went wrong and when she came back she was just like a shadow. The man could not wait for his own life to end but the rings gave a life with no ending. When he realized that he tried to destroy them but they were unbreakable, so he buried them whit his wife in a place the elves said that no one would ever find. The history ended whit that the rings stayed with Renae forever.
“Why would you take my life away to be younger for just a while, we elves do live forever but my life won’t keep you young for more than a few months. I can bring you endless life when I am alive, if you let my people live,” the elf said. She could not doom her people to a certain death; she had to try to save them, no matter what she had to do or how hard it was.
“And how would you do that, little elf? No magic can give anyone an endless life?” Isadora was interested in this offer. Endless life was what she had always wanted.
“That’s a secret that no elves can share, even if we wanted to. But I can get you the items it will take for you.”
“And why can’t I send out one of my men to get them?”
“Because none of them know where the items are, or what they are.”
“And what if you are lying?”
“I think you have magic so that you can watch me,” the elf said.
“Yes, that’s true. Now go on your quest and find those items. I will keep an eye on you, little elf,” the queen said. “Now go and bring me the items:”
The elf started to walk out from the room, but was stopped as she came to the door. “I almost forgot to ask, what is your name little elf?” queen Isadora asked her.
“It is Elira.” The elf went out from the castle.
When Elira came out from the castle it was already dusk. She took a deep breath of the fresh air and started to run towards the forest, away from the creepy castle with its dark stone walls. That was nothing for an elf. Elira liked it more when it was wooden walls and floors and you could easy look out to the nature. From Isadora’s castle you couldn’t even see a tree.
Soon Elira reached the forest. She sat down on the ground and thought of where the rings could be. No elf had known where they were for centuries; it had always been a big secret. What if they didn’t exist at all? It was a possibility but the elves’ stories were almost always true. Then she remembered the rings had been buried together with Renae so they had to be in the otherworld. And to get to the otherworld she would need to open a portal which toke a lot of magic. It was only one place where the magic was strong enough to summon such a portal: The Mystical Lake.
