Default Half-Bred Aliens Mod
Hi. So there seems to be this clever little thing that EAxis put in the game... the child of an alien and a human has alien skintones, but is otherwise counted by the game to be human.

This means that the option to disguise the sim is not present and, as such, the sim just spends the rest of their life being "that weird green guy." Meanwhile, the full alien right beside him blends right into normal society.

This irks me. I really want to know if anyone has made a mod that counts the children of alien-sim couples as aliens (or at least adds the option to disguise based on skin tone instead of whether or not the sim in question is considered an alien), because, as I said, I feel bad for the green human sitting right next to the normal-looking alien. It isn't easy being green...

Of course, until I find a mod like this, I will just change the skin tone of my purple "humans" by way of cas.fulleditmode so that they don't feel self-conscious.

Actually, those sims are half-alien, and two of them can have alien offspring. A mod that removes that part, so that a sim must be either human or alien is easy (I could point out the precise changes). Making half-aliens able to don a disguise could maybe be possible, but I have no information on that.

Oh. I didn't realize that two half-aliens could make a full-alien baby. Is it an alien-recessive Mendelian genetics system wherein two half-aliens would have a 25% chance of a normal baby, 50% of half-alien, and 25% chance of full-alien? If so, I respect the developers' effort at making a semi-realistic genetics system, but I abhor the fact that half-aliens can't even hide themselves while their full-alien counterparts can (but, then, there's disruptive selection for you). I don't imagine that, if the gene for alienism is there, it would have been substantially harder to make it so even part-aliens could don a disguise.

In any case, I haven't the most basic of idea how to program in Python (only Visual Basics... and even then, just a grade eleven course), so I'm euchred until someone else makes one. I don't suppose, since you mentioned being able to make all babies full-alien or non-alien, you plan on making such a mod?

Sadly I have very many things I have to or want to do, and this is not something I would be interested in personally nor I would class as high priority. Therefore I do not want to make such a mod. It is a large step between knowing how to make a particular mod and making the mod, testing the mod and releasing the mod. I will only do mods that I myself want to do, so I must say that I will not make this mod.

Okay. Just asking. I didn't expect you to; I just though, since you knew it was possible, that you might have previously been considering it.

Nah, I am doing research for SimsVIP from time to time. We were interested in aliens, so I have looked at plenty of alien related files.

Ah. Makes sense. In that case, would you be able to tell me whether alienism is treated like a recessive trait for the purposes of reproduction?

Yes. There is actually two hidden traits, Alien and Half-Alien. They are mutually exclusive, think of Alien as having a pair of the gene and of Half-Alien as having a single gene. At least that is how it is described in the documentation (I have had an issue trying to wrap my head around the actual code).

Huh. Interesting. I just REALLY wish they'd thought through the Half-Alien trait better. Thanks, though!

You can always use the testingcheat to remove the wrong trait, and add the right one.. (for your preference).

I am not bigoted for race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or age... I do, however, have a big problem with stupidity, and stupidity knows no boundaries.

Oh. My. Gosh. I am such an idiot sometimes. HOW did I not think of this?! Thanks a million!

EDIT:
Tried it. Doesn't work, unfortunately... For some reason, after I removed "Half-Alien" and added "Alien," "Change into Disguise" was absent from the control pie.

I used:
traits.remove_trait Half-Alien
then
traits.equip_trait Alien

All I can think is that the names are off or that EAxis didn't add it to the list of traits which can be artificially added onto a sim.

I don't know if this still an issue for you, but in case anyone still has this issue I found a solution, actually two solutions. Your child will be a full alien after this. I went through the source files for the sims and found the correct names for the traits and did some trial and error.

Solution One-

Do the following with testingcheats on:

Type:
traits.remove_trait trait_OccultAlienPart
Then:
traits.equip_trait trait_OccultAlien

Your child will not change externally, but will have the option to Remove Disguise and Alter Disguise after that. It will consider their current look (purple, green, blue skin...) as the disguise and all you would have to do is Alter Disguise and change skin tone, that way they will look like their parents with the disguise. Without the disguise, they will look alien, but they will NOT look like their alien parent when it comes to coloring. In my case the father is purple in his natural alien form and the children, after using the cheat, are green, dark blue, and purple(had triplets). You can just use CAS full edit mode to change the alien skin tone.

Solution Two-

Do the following with testingcheats on:

Type:
traits.remove_trait trait_OccultAlienPart
Then:
traits.equip_trait trait_OccultAlien_Current

Your child will have an alien appearance and also Alter Disguise and Disguise Self after that. They wont inherit the parent alien coloring. In my case the father is purple in his natural alien form and the children, after using the cheat, are dark blue, light blue, and pink (had triplets). They originally were purple humans. Also the disguise is not inherited, so you will have to make it yourself to look like the parents. Two of my three looked like before the cheat with change of human coloring, pure coincidence though, since the third looked nothing like before or the parents.

I prefer solution one, since it makes creating the disguise easier. Both worked though and I tried them multiple times to make sure. Very important that testingcheats is on, or nothing will work. Hope this helps you or someone in the future.
