Morning y'all! Since a few of you have expressed not knowing what goes inside a warehouse / factory, I've hunted down some images for you. These factories housed rows and rows of people doing assembly line work and large machines. You would not go wrong putting in broken pipes and metal, tables and chairs, boxes and tools, gadgets and gizmos.

kanzen, you have passed City Inspection! Looking great!

ekrubynaffit, you are on the right track, but I'm afraid it's just too small. You don't need to be able to drive all the way around the building, so consider expanding farther back or put all of your parking and loading dock on one side and expand that way. You also probably don't need that fence around the dock. These places were not super high security facilities. Though, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire disaster was caused because the company had locked the workers IN, and a fire broke out.

I almost have the stuff ready to post about the first reno round and scores. Need a bit more time, but it should be up this morning yet, or early afternoon.

Default Round 1 Renovations - A Clothing Retailer!
Great Work! The Conservation Committee has granted your church historical significance! With the building officially saved, a clothing retailer has purchased the building and needs you to make changes for them. They need a main selling floor, dressing rooms, check out registers, clothing racks, public restrooms, manager's office, break room, staff bathroom, stockroom, a delivery entrance, and parking for 6+. If you have space left over, consider a 'bargain basement', coffee shop, bookstore, or other ways of making the space generate income. The sanctuary itself is owned by the clothing retailer, but if you have easily divided extra spaces with existing separate entrances, those areas can become separate shops entirely.

The City and Conservation Committee are pleased to award Building Permits to the following contractors: CatherineTCJD, Red Sonja, ekrubynaffit, ForeverCamp, kanzen, and xmathyx. Currently we do not have the blueprints (wall diagrams) ready to go, so do NOT remove any walls, doors, windows, or plumbing yet. You may recolor/wallpaper/flooring anything and get your churches cleaned up inside and out. Round scores are posted! See the first post for the table, and detailed score breakdowns are available to view on this Google Doc. All rounds' scores will be added to this document, so go ahead and bookmark it.

Interesting Tidbit: I got the idea for this contest from a really cool Urban Outfitters that has purchased an old church near my university. All rounds are based on real life converted spaces located in Cincinnati Ohio! The right hand side of the church (the pastors office/ sunday school rooms, has been parceled off as a separate entity and is a Graeter's Ice Cream and before that it was a TMobile Cellular.

Congratulations, the six of you Well-deserved too!

I am very thankful for my 14 points, not sure that I deserved them! Let me also apologize for the horrible screenshots; some of you may have noticed that they are not up to my usual, reasonable standard - but I had a problem with my screen card and it was only solved after the deadline. I did not want to use that as an excuse either - I had enough patience from Phaenoh in that round!

Thank you for the reply about the loading dock/service entrance - I think I have it under control now

YAY! Pleased to get the contract to rebuild

*grumble* Seriously... NO one noticed my landscaping? There were rocky patches of turf, dead plants, wilted greenery, overgrown roses, weeds, fallen trees, etc... But none of it was inside - was that it? *sigh* OK. I'll up my landscape game for next round.

Ooops! I misread the adjudication sheet - only 1 judge marked me low on Landscaping. I WILL do better next time!

Thank you, J2 & 3, for the comments I know it's a PITA to write them all out; but it really helps me grow and improve. I appreciate it ! Thanks!

I was totally thinking last night, "She's going to make us build a clothing store in there."

Sorry to hear that, Red. Not sure what you're talking about with the remodel, though. The inspectors did grant you a Building Permit...

Where are the scores posted?

Can I just say everyone did a great job and sometimes your score might not mean you did badly just that someone else did such a wow job that they deserved a higher score. Photos also make a difference as we can't mark what we can't see.

Red, yes. Please take your church and make it into a clothing shop.

Also in the score table on the first post.

What were everyone elses' guesses for what the new owners would want? Nice one, Forever!

Phae, do we have a wall diagram yet? I'm trying desperately to stave off the impending turkey coma, and getting to work on my church-turned-clothier sounds like just the ticket.

Forever, no, not yet. We might have them in tomorrow. I haven't had a chance to make them yet, and then I have to get them approved from the judges. If you can't wait, err on the safe side and just go ahead and keep all your walls. These are just diagrams of walls that MUST stay, if you keep them all, well, that accomplishes that.

Okey-doke. I went ahead and made a mock-up of my floorplan for the clothing store overlaid on the existing floor plans. Question, though: can I putter around with the staircases? My basement stairs are messing with the delivery entrance mojo.

Those types of specifics are only going to be answered with the real wall diagrams, sorry I'm behind!

Wrong or right direction now? I will post the shell plus the floor plans if the building is acceptable. Thank you I need to go and look for a fence. And do some actual work.

Thanks, Phae! Knowing that it's at least a possibility makes me much happier. I've got to bring my car into the garage later this morning, and I'm aiming to finish my university response paper today, so I'm probably not going to get around to reno-ing until this afternoon anyway. The turkey coma managed to get pushed away until 11:30pm at any rate. Now we have to somehow consume inordinate amounts of Thanksgiving leftovers in a week.

Justpetro, right! Your covered parking lot is unique, and your warehouse seems taller than it needs to be, but you are going in the right direction! I LOVE the little water tower you have! I think I would remove the fourth floor and put in clerestory windows instead of it being so tall. Sorta like this: http://assets.inhabitat.com/wp-cont...uster-delft.jpg

Just a quick notice that I might not be able to compete in all the rounds because we're moving to another country. My computer's the last to get packed...hopefully. But if not then I guess I'll be absent for a while. Before then I hope to post my warehouse entry at least.

kanzen, thank's for the headsup! I'll keep your name on our roster. Good luck with moving!

Forever, I just reread my reno rules and sadly, stairs cannot be moved. I've just sent the wall diagrams for the judges to look over, and once they approve them, I can turn them loose on y'all.

For the conversion, exterior windows and doors cannot be removed. You may swap them out for better looking ones, but please try to use replacements that are the same basic size, so don’t replace a giant plate glass window with a tiny circle window, though you can go the opposite direction, and make the new window significantly larger than the old one. Roof structures cannot be changed, but you may recolor them. Stairs cannot be added but can be removed. Extra levels cannot be added but floor tiles can be removed. Some interior walls can be removed but others cannot at City discretion (you will receive a version of your layout image with lines indicating walls that must remain when you are approved to move onto the next stage, the Judges will approve this before it comes back to you). Interior walls may be added and interior doors may be added or removed. Interior columns can either remain as columns, or be replaced by a wall. Restrooms and kitchen hookups need to remain in the same area (within 2 tiles of original location) as they were first placed.
