...but this is an OLD school building. Did inner city/urban schools back in the 'day' (say, 1930-1950) have cafeterias?
LOL! I don't have room for one - and don't really want to add one - but, I like to be at least a little bit historically accurate...
Thanks all ya'll for your thoughts - I'll continue building without a cafeteria.

There is no staying inside buildings (except perhaps a really vicious storm) here during the two normal breaks - learners go outside and eat whatever they brought from home somewhere on the grounds.

At least in the elementary schools that I've been in around here (mostly built around 1900-1950), there's nowhere that appears to be a former cafeteria. Most of the "lunch rooms" that I've seen have been hosted in multipurpose rooms with removable tables, or in older gyms that are too small to use for classes anymore. Maybe it's different in high schools/middle schools...

...dunno...
I'm an ex-high school teacher myself. I taught Chorus for several years - until I got sick of fighting the administration for funding every day!
Every school I've ever been in had a cafeteria - it may have doubled as a gym - but it was centrally located and INside. 'Course, as far as buildings go, most everything in Florida has been built since 1971. (After WDW opened) And AC is a necessity for all public buildings! LOL!

Thanks, Petro!

Over here we have a tuckshop. So it's like a room with a roller blind and the lunch ladies are behind the counter. The kids line up on the other side of that room in front of the counter. Most tuckshops serve cold things such as salad rolls, fruit, ice cream or hot simple things such as pie. They don't serve things such as 3 meat and veg. They don't do plates and washing up or serve things off spoons, nor do they have trays like I have seen in US TV shows. Kids are just handed over the items into their hands maybe in a paper bag, wrapped in glad warp or in a Styrofoam container. If you also want an ice block or drink you have to go back and maybe go to a different lunch lady down the end. There are normally tables and chairs under the building on ground level open on at least two sides probably due to the Australian heat, but much seating is outside under trees. Many children bring lunch to school in a lunch box.

Oh yea, the lunches are not free. You have to buy them. Lots of grammar schools built in the 50's had a multipurpose room/auditorium/gym/stage/lunchroom for rainy days. There was a cafeteria off to the side that actually cooked and served hot food there but those days are long gone now.

Can I get City Inspection approval?
...before I go any further those stairs were a bit *ahem* P.I.T.A.!

OH! And, I just kinda assumed High School. But, play equipment? Ummm...
I guess sim-teens like to swing, don't they?

Cat, most of the roof looks fine except for the parts that have actual roof pieces on those jut outs. I'd simply do flat roofs all the way around. The raised thing in the center is out of character for the style, but not as much as the other pieces. You can leave it or take it off. As for your layout, I'd recommend moving your bathrooms across the hall so they touch classrooms 2,3,5,6. You'll need to figure out how to make a new doors for the two in the back, but I promise this will be a smaller problem than having the bathrooms where they are currently for your reno. With the bathrooms moved, move the elevator to the center so class 8 can be longer like class 1. You could shrink the width on 1 and 4 to make a new hallway for class 2 and 3, or come up with a different plan. You have a lot of unused space by the front windows.

Porky, I'd recommend removing your main stair case and adding another set of bathrooms in it's place for the same reason as Cat, for reno purposes. As plumbing fixtures need to remain within a few tiles of the original ones, you are going to need some on both sides of your hall.

Justpetro, your bathrooms are large as well, and you'll have an easier time if you make two sets of them at both ends of your school (where the elevator currently is).

Forever, same thing, switch your boys bathroom with your Class 6.

Let's remember that these kids and teens have shorter legs and maybe won't make it all the way across the school when they suddenly need to pee. More bathrooms or at least centrally located ones.

The teacher in me is fighting so hard against that assumption. (Most schools I've been in, the washrooms have NEVER been centrally located. Inspiration school's student washrooms are over beside the staircase IRL on both floors. I'm not even entirely convinced that the basement HAS washrooms.)

Nevertheless, the washrooms will be relocated as requested.

Oh! You had said to make the bathrooms centrally located. I'll redo it this weekend.

(I am brain dead and not parsing your instructions correctly, sorry.)

To clarify, You want me to remove the main staircase and put in an additional boys and girls restroom in it's place?

So, people have to go to the end to the building to use the stairs? (That would not have been the standard on these old schools.)

Thank you, Phaenoh - will change the bathrooms around! Should have some real building time tomorrow; just getting the band on the road out first.

Forever, you might be right about that, but I want to make sure you don't build yourself into a corner by not having plumbing where you are going to need it later.

Porky, If you want to keep both stairs, that's fine, you just are going to want access to plumbing in each 'block' of your classrooms. Hallways and stairs impede that. You could also achieve the same thing by putting two sets of bathrooms at each end of the hallway and remove your side stairs. Either works just as well.

So what's happening here? It's been a bit quiet, are we due to judge anything yet?

Yeah @joandsarah77 , let's get started on judging the Warehouse. @Charmful @AndrewGloria @caitawesome Also, J4, still waiting on your Victorian house scores.

Please read over the requirements carefully to make sure the contestants included everything. Entry links are in the table in the first post.

@Phaenoh Odd I thought we had judged the made over warehouse already. Looking at my sheet I'm a bit confused. I have 6 filled in on the second side already but the last one I have done shows zeros, indicating a person with no entry to judge except that person does have an entry when I look across to their name. I wish there wasn't such a gap between rounds since I tend to forget what I was doing. Could you take a look at my sheet. I hope that I just have that last line wrong or that the entry link is wrong. Are all the entry links updated? When I check that persons entry link it takes me to the first warehouse round.

I think my school is done. Hopefully I will post it tomorrow; still have to take screenshots. No guarantee about historical correctness. Anyone else need a drink? I have to admit, I think I don't want to see another dirty/grungy/broken chair or table for the rest of my sim playing career

Jo, I'll try to get the front table updated soon. It looks like we've lost one of our newer judges, and I was waiting on them still.

Default Entry - Old School
First, I apologize not posting another floor plan - I am going away for a couple of days and therefore hope that this building will be suited. I'll be back next Sunday and will probably not have internet until then. (Taking the vacation that I planned while taking part in the vacation building contest )

I moved stairs to the side; moved the elevator to the entrance, kept the bathrooms big (thinking that here, kids all go during the break, they are not small, they are actually huge) but moved them to where the elevator was, all on top of each other.

Dear City Council

The Simwhere School has been abandoned for years; and we are sorry to learn that it may have to go. It has a rich history and several Simwhere mayors, doctors and lawyers have started their education here. It was built in the heyday of Simwhere, before the floods that forced many families to move away.

We have inspected the school and found that the building is actually in a much better condition than meets the eye. The parking lot is basically gone, and people used the grounds to dump garbage, combining to make the school look far worse than it actually is. The trees, first overgrowing after the flood and then dying during the dry years, can be cleared and a proper pathway can be rebuilt. We have found that the foundations are intact and that new flooring, paint and some doors and windows will turn this building into a jewel of the city. We also have prospective buyers, and they assured us that the building has numerous possiblilites and can be used for various projects that they have in mind.

Please consider our request, we will really appreciate it if this building can be saved.

Thank you
Simwhere Estate Agency.

Unfortunately, I didn't have much time this week to paly the Sims, so I'll have to skip this round. Sorry for that. I don't know if I'll have anything else to build, but if I do, I am now almost free, so I'm sure I'll have time to build it.

LOL, I was really just asking the actual date. I'm all snarled up now between not being able to see the dates on the front table and our scheduling mix-up in November.
