I don't know, but if you have it handy it would probably help.

@THA

If you want to wait a day, I've added a troubleshooting function to the TS4 version of this, and will add it to the TS SimRipper probably tomorrow. It lets you save a zip file including all the CC used by the sim, so it should save a lot of time and effort for both of us.

Edit: Sorry it's taking longer than I thought; the blended colors are really off and I'm trying to fix it (along with supporting more patterns and fixing the eyelashes) before uploading a new version.

Hello! Its been a minute since I've been back here! But since there has been updates to a semi-stable(ish) version I thought I would come and tell you the first problem I'm getting ????. Sorry. But I'm not sure if I've missed something or not but when I have no option to find a path to my base game. When I click something it gives me the Unhandled Exception Error shown in this picture. This is the details or the error in case you need that as well. I will attempt to see If I can get to work anyway but I don't think it will lol. ((EDIT: Thought it was worth mentioning that I have TS3 installed through Steam and not Origin or Disk so that may be why it won't let me set a path without an error?))

There's no path entered in that screenshot. Are you saying the screen came up like that when you first started SimRipper? Did you try making the paths blank and let it auto-detect?

Yup as soon as I open the program it tells me no paths are found and to do it manually but I can’t without this error. And trying to make them blank does nothing so I have no idea if I’m missing some framework or something?

Looks like it's not finding the entries in your registry. I'll have to see what I can find out about Steam TS3 registry entries, and probably put a button allowing manual addition of paths in the next version. I'm working on patterns and a list of other fixes and improvements so it may be a few days.

Yeah its odd because I tested it on my sister’s computer and she has TS3 through Steam but it found her’s. I use her steam account to DL the sims so maybe that’s why. ah well I guess I will wait for a manual button thanks for the help

Whenever i select a sim from "SavedSims" to export

As for other errors:
Can't read BOND 0x0355E0A6-0x00000000-0xA80229A2A338B4AC, Package: D:\Electronic Arts\Die Sims 3\Mods\Packages\SlidersMERGED.package

I assume this program can't read merged package files?

It should be able to read merged packages unless there's something strange about them. It can't read protected packages.

I'm pretty sure I know what the BOND problem is, and will fix that. I'm working on a new version that has substantial changes and the ability to zip all the CC for the sim for easier troubleshooting, so IMO it's better for you to try again with that once it's uploaded.

It's semi-comatose but alive. I've been sidetracked by projects for TS4 because of the December patch mucking things up, and I've been sick for a couple of weeks and unable to spend much time on modding. I WILL come back to this.

Hello. I am getting a handling error when trying to load the sims into the game. I use custom sliders. I also use cc magic which merges cc. Any help with this? I use your sims 4 ripper for my projects and I was happy when I found this so I can make renders of my sims 3 sims. I will also post a link to the sims I am trying to import into the program.

This looks like a mesh with incorrect bone assignments. For now, I suggest trying with a vanilla EA sim, and if that works start trying other sims to figure out which CC it is. I'll look at your sims but I don't know when, and it probably won't do any good without the CC that's (probably) causing the problem.

CmarNYC - Before I begin, I just want to say you are one of my internet heroes. You are an inspiration to everyone but having no authority to speak for them I declare it at least for myself. Thank you for the monolithic effort you have made on behalf of this community for over ten years! On to cases. A long story short. I am having the same problem KosmoKhaos is having with the steam version..

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I hope this info helps: The error message is thrown when I try to click on the saved sims folder as in screenie 2.

I hope to the mod gods you can help me with this issue as a friend bought me a copy of the Sims 3 on Steam so I could do this for her..if it is indeed a registry issue I am going to be lost on this without your help. Though I will stop short of begging this is an issue I need your help with. I cannot imagine you are not busy and this feed is old..but I know you can fix this and I don't quite know how to best ask?

As of today I have a legit copy of SIms 3 bought for the purposes of using this program with it..but it seems Steam version is a nogo at this point, I am embarrassed as I should have read this feed before I recommended the steam version, please don't forget the Sims 3 and help me to rectify my own shame in this matter dear CMAR, I love you! xxx

PS - I am running windows 10..I stand by to apply any troubleshooting measures you have, if we can fix this at all x

PPS- I was sorry to read you had been ill, forgive I did not mention I hope your recovery was a swift and painless one and that you are feeling much better. I know it is a cliche to say whilst burdening you with more work, but I know how easy it is to overwork oneself, since I started modding I sometimes work 20 hours or more at a stretch, made myself quite ill not a few days back so I empathise entirely. We only hope you look after yourself CmarNYC..you are a hero to a lot of people x

Hello, and thanks.

First, your game installation folder path is not set so SimRipper won't work even without the error. For Steam, the standard path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\". It might be different depending on your individual system.

Please upload your saved Sims folder.

Is your game patched up to date? If not, that could be the reason it's not reading the save data correctly.

Please do not PM me with mod, tutorial, or general modding questions or problems; post them in the thread for the mod or tutorial or post them in the appropriate forum.

Thank you for the quick reply, there is no way to set the installation path on start up as pic 2 shows it is blank, no way to select an option..I wondered if it was a problem with the steam version? Has there been any problems with the steam version? What could be preveting Ripper from finding and recognising the exe. and how do I input the data manually? Again many thanks for your support, you rock Cmar.Ithought the steam version would be automaticaly up to date, is that not the case? Sorry for all the questions..but I dont know enough to say which are relevant to a solution.. xx MiG

No problem! I can't improve my tools without people reporting stuff and asking questions.

The problem is that Steam uses different registry entries for its installs than the disk or Origin versions. I've looked it up and put in some code to detect Steam installations as well. This may need some tweaking for mixed installations but I need to know if it works at all. There's also a new button to manually add a game path if it doesn't work.

I've attached a new testing version for you to try before I upload an official new version. Please let me know if the automatic detection works.

The latest version for Steam should be 1.67. I think Steam does update automatically, but you should check that you're at 1.67.

Oh yay I came back form a hiatus to check this and was glad to see a slight update! So this version definitely fixes the pathing problem I had where it wasn't finding my game. But the only problem I have now is that it tells me that it can't find my packages. I'm not sure if this is because I use CC Magic or not? I don't know what path to set it on that it would be able to detect my package files. The path Documents>Electronic Arts>TheSims3>Mods doesn't seem to work. I know that CC Magic stores it's merged files there but the path is Documents>Electronic Arts>TheSims3>Mods>Cache>Sets. Neither of these paths have worked in detecting my packages. I'll keep doing some further testing to see how everything else works though.

That error message is for the game packages, not your mod packages. Please try again, and remember you have to close and restart SimRipper if you make changes to the paths. If it's still not working, please post screenshots of your game installation files showing the full path, your mods folder showing the full path, and your settings again showing the full paths.
