Thanks for the suggestions @ y'all, funny thing is that the moment I posted that I went to take a shower and was hit with Thoughts (tm), and managed to come up with a sorta-solution too: I could knock a sim up with sim blender, then accelerate the pregnancy, then mess around with the memories and such to make it seem like they adopted the baby, then blame similarities on coincidence *wink* or genetic engineering (these people are probably rich enough for that). Funnily enough, after coming up with this, I also managed to get the idea of making all townies and adoptables related to the J.S. sim as a nod to Steph0sims, whose sim popped out 100 babies in under 24 hours. Maybe I shouldn't ground myself in reality so much, lol

I think there's a balance we have to find between our reality and sim reality. In sim-land, male pregnancy through alien abduction is totally realistic and normal. In our land, ....well I 'spose I can't prove that it's not

Yeah, my game is far from grounded in reality

When a game is predictable, it's boring.
That goes for any medium that isn't life.
That's why The Sims 2 is my favourite sims game.
It has elements of unpredictability and everything feels more involved.
The Sims 4 is another story altogether...

I feel like I've known this, but I just noticed that I have a weakness for downloading anything cat themed.

Do I need more cat pictures that I'll almost never use?
Yes

Periodically I find myself wishing I could PLAY the game rather than work on projects in it, but I have exactly zero neighborhoods that capture my interest, and the one I really want to play is the one that a lot of my current projects are FOR, so that doesn't exactly help...

Haha, same!! For weeks now I've been working on choosing JUST the right mix of cc for a new neighborhood I want to set up rather than just... setting it up and playing it.

To be fair it's gonna be really epic when I finally do!

Oh for sure, same here! But an enormous urban fantasy FILLED (and I do mean filled) with dense urban cityscape, including plenty of skyscrapers and fictitious landmarks, isn't gonna be done anytime soon!

A while ago I got a mod that prompts me when a kid/teen wants to bring another kid/teen home from school.

It occurred to me just now that I've not once said no.

What mod is that? I would've said no plenty of times because visitor controller doesn't work on kids brought home from school.

Twojeff's schoolbus - bring friend home dialog idk where all his mods are being stored these days but this archive link was the first thing that came up on google. I don't remember if that's where I got it from or if it's somewhere else too.

Neither have I, unless I knew the kid to be a plague carrier, but in cases of plague it's useful. What I really got the mod for, though, IIRC, is that it omits vacation townies from the calculation of sims eligible to be brought home, and increases the chances of bringing home a playable.

I got it because I liked how in ts3 it'd ask you if the kid could come over or if your kid could go to their house.

I got curious after my posts in stupid/random questions about my rich sims, what was the average networth of households in my megahood.

Excluding university, after rounding, it's $81k. I've tuned it so rich is $130k, meaning 11 out of 64 (non uni) households are rich, or about 17% of the population.
These households are:
Goth - Mortimer
DeBateau
Capp - Consort
Rutherford
Landgraab
Lothario - Cassandra
Contender
Monty - Patrizio
Roth
Summerdream
Aspir

The Beakers are SUPER close, one or two days of work and they'll be on that list too.

There is 399k difference between the richest family (Goth) and the 11th richest family (Aspir), and a 528k difference between the richest family (Goth) and the poorest family (Nina Caliente). Imagine how that must make Dina feel since she married Mortimer

In all fairness, 130k might be high. If I notice a lack of rich sims in later generations I might tune it back down. But for this first gen of premades who are more or less all set in their lives, I wanted it higher.

my hoods average household value is $100,000k. 100 million from the one absurd test house outlier. must get back and see how high it can truely go.

I love that school bus mod, I use it in my bigger hoods where there are supposed to be multiple schools, so I can say no if they really are not supposed to have met that sim, because they go to a different school.

I also use it to allow a relationship boost without the invite (pretend they just played together or talked at school) if the sim has other responsibilities like a job or working on the farm or something. Or if someone in the household is sick and I don't want to spread it, or if the parents are strict and don't allow friends to come over.

I have much poorer sims than you guys - I just calculated for my current hood. I think that sims living in apartments get a bad calculation, though, since the hood view just shows their cash on hand, rather than the value of the deposit they would receive if they moved out. Since I didn't want to move them all out just to calculate, I estimated and adjusted.

Elsewhere (remote village)
$17,260 (if adjusted for apartments: $19,260)

Anywhere (suburb on edge of city)
$77,249 (if adjusted for apartments: $79k-ish)

Nowhere (run down council estate)
This is where the adjustment for apartments makes a much bigger deal. Most of the sims live in apartments, and most of them have very low cash reserves on-hand. You don't live here unless you have no choice, or you've always lived here and can't see another alternative.
$7,637 -> $13,992 with the apartment adjustment.

Somewhere (uni subhood)
$2,647

I didn't count any of the houses where sims fulfil a role, like the live-in teacher, the orphanage or the old folks' home, because the finances are kind of skewed there. I had been thinking of using mortgage shrubs to artificially reduce the prices of those homes - up until now I just tended to cheat sims the money to buy those places.

proof of concept, resulted by maxing familyfunds to 9,999,999 and selling stuff to set it above 10 million. added 6k NCL gold blocks with an auto clicker until the game started slowing down, then moved her out to immediately sell it all and then back in again. number does display in household fund counter.
