Zarathustra doing a medieval hood? Color me intrigued. You want names? I got names for days. If there was such a job I would be a professional namer-of-things. Here's some random mashup freebies: Jarskgrog, Wintouria, Clavishdon, Plarkdom. Here's some simlish-themed freebies: Aspiratia, Platinumion, Llamascher, Plumbobbshire

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

Here's a site that might help you out: http://chaoticshiny.com/index.php

It has a map generator, name generators, all kinds of fun stuff to put together a medieval land and city.

Haha, thanks- at this point I've already done too much of the "two English words mushed together" approach to naming things (Westfall, Iron Circle, Stormwall, Highwinter, Crossroads Hills, etc.), so I'm trying to come up with names that are more original and that I can turn into adjectives and alter (as happens with real world language) depending on where in the world something is being talked about...

This project is really one that I'm doing more for Sims right now, but I'd also like to flesh out enough that I could use it for a tabletop RPG setting or for writing stories unrelated to a Sims build someday too, so I'm trying to figure out as much of it as I can, and at the moment only being able to think of places as "the deserts way south of Westfall where vampires are from" for that society, or "the massive empire east of the haunted forest that's totally not just stealing the aesthetic from Imperial China (wink wink)" among many other locations I still need to name doesn't really make it easy to come up with more detail yet!

What I REALLY need is a name for the world as a whole! I can't even group things together properly without that!

Listen to sims talk and find a word you think would be suitable. Like how Marticore named a planet Elaganda after what male sims say when there's a plate in the way

Playful sims are right - jumping on the couch is fun. Then again pleasure would definitely be my secondary aspiration. Not even gonna try the flips and stunts they pull, though.

Anyone else too obsessive compulsive to actually enjoy their game? Feels like no matter how much I tweak and/or mod my game there's always ten more things that bother me still, to where I spend my 'playing time' actually just googling for mods and opening SimPE. It's starting to bother me now. No wonder my hoods barely get off the ground.

@Bubblebeam I have realized that I played more seriously when I used worse computers, perhaps that everything was more restrictive made me focus on the real game without distractions.

I would also like to test the game on a laptop, once I used it on a friend's laptop and it felt like a kid.

The family photo should not change just because some sims got red from being too hot. As if you would reshoot your family photo for that.

Moving all your Sims 2 stuff to a new computer sure is a mentally tiring task. I haven't played in a year (precisely because I dreaded setting up the game lol) and there's quite a few settings that need to be tweaked that I forgot how to do. Eeeek.

I dread that too. I try to remember to note down all the additional steps on notepad, but there's so much to do I probably forget to write down some of it. Best to jot it down after you've just done it so it's fresh in your mind.

I remember someone once asking how they could get good face shots of their sims for their database. This totally reminded me of their post. Picasa's face scanning function, which I can't help finding a bit creepy that it did this (by itself) so well from a bunch of large screenshots.

Do you have access to the old computer? If so, install the game on your new computer. Rename the [Install Location]\EA GAMES folder to [Install Location]\Backup_EA GAMES. Then connect both computers to your router and then copy the [Install Location]\EA GAMES folder from your old computer to your new computer. Likewise copy the C:\Users\[username]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder to the new computer. Then, setup the graphics rules file for your new computer's graphics card. Your install is now identical to your old install.
If you can't switch the old computer on, you could remove the hard drive and connect it to your new PC (internally or externally), and copy the files from there.

That's exactly what I did-when my old computer fried itself, the person who built the new one just removed the entire hard drive and made it into the external drive, where all my games are. It's a life saver, because it also has all my downloads and my installed game. As a matter of fact, I can't play the game without it being connected to the new computer. Weird, but whatever..

Yeah I had it all on a memory stick. Gave it a try today and actually there was less tweaking to do than I thought, it's all fine. Just had to delete one file related to a new graphics card and it's back running again. Thanks for the help, i sure did miss this game

Oh good, I have so many config mods and extras added to my install files, it would take ages to re-do all of those. So when I need to install a new hard drive or change computers, I copy them over once I've installed. Tip- keep a copy of the pristine installation files if you can, these are great for referring to or if you want to test something or play an unmodded game.

The initial release of Sims 2, on September 14, 2004.

I feel like we should start planning for the 20th anniversary party in 3 years now, just to make sure we have time to do it right... don't you think?

I'm actually, seriously thinking of re-installin my game and combining a Sims 2 version of the decades challenge with Beginning of Pleasantview.
On problem however, is that I want certain Sims to be certain ages during specific decades. So I'll have to calculate how to fudge that. Blergh.
I might also have to add a generation or two.

I really need to come up with something more to do with the medieval fantasy world I'm gradually putting together... It's definitely given me good ideas for Sims builds, (finished and unfinished) but there's 2 problems there- One, I don't build fast enough for TS2 to have that world 'finished' anytime in the foreseeable future, and two, there's lots of aspects of it that I'm figuring out that would really have nothing whatsoever to do with a particular building, and might not even really be something that I could make relevant in the mini-stories I use as lot descriptions here, but that are still a major aspect of the world.

I need to find friends to run a D&D campaign set in it, or figure out a longer story that I can write just as a writing project that's set there, or something.... I really like this world as I'm figuring more out about it, and I want something that will let me realize it better than just in my own imagination!

In case you're building for your own game play, may I suggest something completely out of the ordinary, but would be completely in line with your 'fantasy' world?
