This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default No neighborhoods showing up in game?
So, I recently had to delete my downloads folder because of a glitch. I cleared it all out, and decided to play.

A message appeared, similar to the following:
"Your computer is running low on disk space. You may encounter problems with your game. Do you still want to play?"

I clicked yes, and went to the game.
None of the neighborhoods showed up. Not even the defaults, such as Pleasantview or Strangetown.

????

I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same thing!

I'm not sure what is going on to be honest. Can anyone help me? I'm running Windows 7 on a Japanese NEC laptop.

If you are running out of space on you hard drive then the game may not have enough space to run the game. Try and free up some space and see if that works.

I'm working on that right now to see if it works. I have uninstalled all Sims 2 mods (CEP, Sims2Pack Clean Installer) in case it's a glitch with those, and I just uninstalled the remnants of WoW and Champions Online, two games I no longer play. I have moved my music library to an external drive as well.

It is still saying that my disk space is low, even after all of that.

The most recent thing I have installed (really, the only thing) that takes a lot of space is CELSYS's IllustStudio, but it's my art program, so I can't remove that at this time.

Make sure you are clicking on the icon for the installed game and not the cd, too. That mistake gives a low memory warning and no neighborhoods.

I have a shortcut on my desktop that I click to start the game. I've also tried hitting Play in Origin. Currently working on defrag--will edit this post with final result.

EDIT: Okay, the dialogue box still appears, and there are still no neighborhoods. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Sims 2 Ultimate twice, I have uninstalled unused programs, I have defragged, and I have removed CEP and Sims2Pack.

I find this very odd, as I had been playing with a TON of downloads prior to this issue, and it had been running with MUCH less disk space with no problem. Now I can't even access the standard Neighborhoods, nor create a new one, as all the templates are missing too!

There are at least 8 updates to UC and you need to right click on UC in Origin and check for updates until it tells you UC is up to date.

Okay, would you please tell me how to find that? I only downloaded Origin for Sims 2, so I'm afraid I'm not able to navigate it very well.

EDIT: Hah, nevermind! I'm a bit of an idiot, huh? I thought UC meant "User Content" for some stupid reason...I am checking for updates now.

EDIT part II (electric boogaloo?): Sims 2 updated, still no neighborhoods or templates.
Now it seems that the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection folder has...vanished...from my Documents folder on my computer? I think my computer hates me...

Okay, I'm sorry for double posting. My partner gave me a copy of their EA Games/Sims 2 UC folder to replace my missing one.
Still can't access any neighborhoods or terrains.

Are you using the right My Doc folder for windows 7 makes 2 and the game only uses 1 of them.

It would be EA Games / Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, correct? If so, then yes, I was. But, then that folder disappeared.
I'm uninstalling and reinstalling yet again to see if it will create a new S2UC folder with everything in it. The folder my partner gave me did nothing to help the situation.

Both will show the same thing "EA Games / Sims 2 Ultimate Collection" only 1 will have all the other files in it and the other will be empty, the one with all the other files is the one you need to use.

Might this tutorial be of any help? http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/showthread.php?tid=4289 It tells you how to eliminate the extraneous folder for good and all, which also eliminates any confusion about where things should install themselves when you download a lot or a sim or something.

Well, the trouble is not that I had two folders. The trouble is that BOTH EA folders had completely VANISHED.
How that happened, I've no idea. I'm reinstalling in hopes that I'll get the folders to return. O_o

Okay, so I have now reinstalled Sims 2 Ultimate collection for the third time. It is not creating an EA Games/Sims 2 Ultimate Collection folder. It's not creating two folders.

It's creating absolutely ZERO folders. Something is very broken.

Then I am afraid that it is you OP system that is doing it to you. Does the game start up or what?

I just had a thought that maybe your "My Doc" has been set to read only and you need to fix that it can read and write or the game can not make the folders so the game can run.

My OP hasn't been changed since the day I bought this computer. It's always been Windows 7.

The game starts up, but when it goes to the select a neighborhood screen, there's NOTHING there. No standard neighborhoods, no terrains. Trying to load the tutorial crashes the game.

My documents folder has not been changed to read-only in any way, shape or form. And, I'm certain an error code would pop up notifying me that the folders cannot be made.

The only thing I can think of is that, when installing CELSYS IllustStudio, I had to switch all my languages back to the standard Japanese in order to install it. I'm wondering if I have to switch back to English in order for things to work properly.

EDIT: It's also past 3am over here, so I need to get some sleep. I'll work on fixing it more later in the morning/day, so until then, it's all up in the air.

If you have not done any windows update then yes your OP has not changed but if you have done updates to windows then yes you OP has changed just like mine did and I had to reset My Doc back to read/write.

When I saw "...it won't work with Japanese Locale," "...A fair few people have reported problems with Japanese locale," I literally cried out, "WAA! THAT'S PROBABLY IT! AUGH!" I scared my partner, I think...
Ha ha, all right! So I'll try switching things up and seeing whether it fixes the problem!

EDIT: YES!!! IT WORKED! Awesome! Thank you SO much everyone, thank you!!!

You're the best!

@CrystalChord you should turn this into EA so they can try and fix it for the Japanese players.

Hello. If you still need to use IllustStudio or any other non-Unicode program, I recommend you to get "AppLocale" (there is a way to get it working on Windows 7). It might be a little bit tricky to make it work at first but it's better to have a different locale all the time.
