How to create cross gabled multilevel roof
Hello and welcome to my first tutorial. Today I will show you how to create cross-gabled roof almost the same I did in my Simdringham house. This is not actually a tutorial. I t is more like how-to instructions based on house I already shared. It was requested by @Frodo1990 recently and now I share this instructions here. Hopefully you'll find it useful. We will be creating this roof piece between 3rd and 4th floors.
My English is not perfect so I write less and show with pictures as more steps as possible.
The whole instruction is in next spoiler:
Lets's start. We will modify this next cubes. Let's call them upper cube and lower cube.
Its important to have facade measures devided by 4. I used 8 tiles and 12 tiles for facade lengths. And I have lower cube little bit shorter because one tile from each side will hide the sloped wall texture. I used 8 tiles and 10 tiles width.
Let's paint flat roofs. I used the textured pattern. But you can paint it solid.
If you want it to have some pattern, you should understand all the eaves and apex you have. Try to predict a map of roof before it will be rised in next steps
Repeat the same for second lower cube
Here is roof map that we would reach
I used low fences to decorate the apexes. So I designed those on all apex lines
It is also important to finish it before roof will be rised because then it will be hard to reach it
You could paint outside. This is not very important to do it right now. But I did and this how our boxes looks when decorated
Let's look inside those cubes. On the 3rd floor we will have a lot of unaccessible space dut to CFE'd ceilinds. So you could cut the lower cube with 1-tiled narrow space. It will become useless at the end. Other spaces called rooms will be accessible
As for the 4th floor. Depending on roof structure and size of dummy cubes it could become unaccessible or partly accessible for sims.
Now we move to CFE works. First of all you need to turn infampous Constrainfloorelevation cheat on. Let's prepare the ground nearby for heights we would like to have. I used stairs to lower ground in two zons near by one and two modular stairs lengths.
Then let's remove stairs and place there foundations which will flatten ground in one tile around
We should repeat the full height of the house so let's build two 1x1 tile columns on those foundations
Ok now we should flatten all the roofs with flatten tool when using height from lower column.
Done! Now our roof is lower
It is important to have one tile line from each side of resulted cubes accessible. They may or may not appear depending on placement of columns. I have some unaccessible tiles here
So I use any floor tile (I used ceiling paint) and place it on each tile I want to be accessible. Once I finish, I will use Ctrl+Shift to remove white tiles and repeat the same for upper cube.
Next you should rise the middle height repositoried on higher column to create a bulge shape.
This is how it should look at the end
Shame on me I made a mistake that will remain till the end. I have writing tutorial when noticed that. The next screenshot shows the mistake I made on upper cube so one slope vertex sunk into lower height. The roof on lower cube has been created properly.
If you will look 3rd floor, you'll see why we actually cut those 1-tile narrow space. Since there it becomes unaccessible for sims. And here is CFE'd wall edges on shared wall between cubes where the wall texture comes diagonal. Since we used different sized cubes as roof base it won't be that visible from the facade.
4th Floor is currently unaccessible but later we'll change it.
After you finish you could probably delete columns, but I prefer to let is stay till the very end in case something will wrong. Anyways. We won't use those columns in future.
And now we are creating apexes. Use wall tool and draw the line when you want to have apexes holding Shift button. Those walls should be right behind fenced lines we designed on roof tiles.
The result will be the grid like this on 3rd floor
Let's repeat it on 4th floor and make the grid there
We are lamost finished and already see two cross-gabled roofs
But. what the hell is that? It is unpropriate
To make those gravel piece flat we should to draw the room downstairs with room tool. Room walls should be placed right under the fences lines again
And here it is! The flat roof
Omce you delete the walls inside those room, then you can have clean space accessible for sims possibly used for placing staircase or spiral stairs to reach the rooftop. Either you can leave it empty.
So here is the result. And it's the end of tutorial. Now you can turn off CFE cheat and move to another task
Thank you for your attention.
Regards Vic ^_^

Thank you very much.
My note for anyone following this method: not to hurry. Especially with roof painting and CFE works. I was in hurry when write this and just noticed my mistake when created a middle height bulgy forms on upper cube so some of roof tiles came a little bit sunk. I did not made for sure in my Simdringham house but I built it the whole year while this tute is written in one night
