It doesn't, plasma and blood are two different things. HOWEVER, in vampire mythos, EA's version is actually correct-in the novel "Dracula," he originally drank the plasma from people, which is the white blood cells, and is much more painful and slower to die from than having your blood sucked out. That is painful but rather quick and can be recovered from depending on how much blood was removed from the body and how quick it can be replenished or replaced. However, plasma? You lose so much as a pint and you're writhing on the ground slowly dying and are pretty much screwed. So yeah, they ARE different, which is why the Red Cross in reality has donation centers around the nation for both blood and plasma.

If you're wondering, they actually changed the novel before it came to the US to have Dracula drink blood as the fact that our favorite Transylvanian drinking people's plasma was a bit too gruesome for most European governments to allow, and actually was banned in a few and still is in a couple of European nations due to gruesome nature of the novel. In essence, the "censored" version is what we know of today and as a result eventually became the standard in vampire pop culture, despite that Dracula intially drank your plasma.
