Default CAW CC Tutorials Thread
Dunno if there is one already, but I wanted to make a thread where we can post our own CAW CC tutorials and those we've found. I think this one is particularly useful: https://hydrangeachainsaw.tumblr.com/tagged/tutorial

Hydrangea made a great tutorial, and while it is a bit confusing if you don't know what you're doing, you can definitely make some cool distant terrains with this one. Now, I do a few things different from what the tutorial calls for.

For example, I render the initial terrain meshes at maybe 1024x1024 or 512x512 instead of 64x64 and I DO NOT use a subdivision map or anything that would add more polygons as the imported mesh already has well over two million of those. I tried following that step a few times after rendering the 2 million polygon mesh by mistake and my poor computer just hung. It's like it just threw its hands in the air and quit. Thought there was something wrong with the computer, and then I realized it was just me making a really stupid mistake.

Instead, I just use the decimate modifier at maybe .012 ratio. Might even just skip all that altogether, but I do want my distant terrain to look nice meshwise. Also had a few problems with the mapping part and then with cloning. Now I just use TSR Workshop, though that program throws me an error every time I try to exit it. Dunno what its problem is. But either way, it's a great app.

If you have any tutorials or other great resources for CAW, post away!

This site already has links to a huge number of tutorials. And link to Wiki.

Not sure how many out out there that are specifically CC?

We also have some on the wiki:
Tutorials:TS3 CAW Tutorialswiki

However, the thread daisylee linked and the wiki links haven't been updated for a while, so might be nice to have some more recent tutorials. You could add to the thread on this site, but the wiki is not allowing me to login or edit stuff, so I don't know if anyone will have luck adding to that. @Tashiketh is the wiki abandoned? How to reset a password for there?

The wiki uses the same login as MTS, so it should work fine. (It's linked to the MTS db so doesn't have a seperate password or anything)

Story books are full of fairy tales, of Kings and Queens, and the bluest skies.

@Tashiketh Not working for me- I just logged out and into MTS using my password just fine, but when I use the same password for Sims Wiki, it tells me my password is incorrect.

I haven’t tried it yet, but there’s also this custom distant terrain tutorial which may be useful: https://chojrak-making-things.tumbl...istant-terrains

And midway down, Ouerbacker posted a nice tutorial about recoloring existing distant terrains too: https://forums.thesims.com/en_Us/di...distant-terrain

Those are some good tutorials! Might use those for making new distant terrains! Just need to find out how to eliminate these weird shadows that I get in weird places in my worlds. At least with the alien distant terrain I'm using. It's not even near the edges but just in some odd places. Might make some screenshots to show what I mean.
