Default Platonic Valentine
I had to do a poem for my English class last year and just recently found it after looking for it for months. I'm really proud of this poem since I'm god-awful at poetry (my poetry is like at a 1st grade level compared to everyone else's-especially against one of my friends!) We had to add in specific things like alliteration and other literary concepts, so some stuff might seem weird.

Platonic Valentine

We stroll through the cherry-colored fields and lounge next to each other,
like carefree newlyweds.
We watch the cotton candy sky and marshmellow clouds,
bathing and coating our teeth in sugar.
We talk about nothing special;
What's in the news, who's dating who,
But I laugh too hard and smile too much.
I yearn to tell you how I feel but the words coward in fear,
safely tucked in my throat.
I gather up some microscopic might but then I hear
HER.
SHE
sits beside you while you cup and cuddle
HER.
I sit beside this forlorn fiasco that fractures my forbidden fantasies,
hating every second of this personalized hell.
I rush off into the cigarette-packed forest
back to the bleak prison that awaits my arrival.
This thing you two have
is too much for me to bear.
HER
presence transforms you,
from the person I adore,
to the person I abhor.
