Justpetro, that actually is a rather impressive little church! The roof is super weird, and I don't understand the checked pattern pavers out front, but those two oddities aside, it's actually a pretty good church! While it looks like it is sitting on a 3x3 lot instead of a 3x4 (and loses 3 points, please correct me if I am wrong), it passes City Inspection and will be considered for a Building Permit.

Jo, you may start judging tomorrow morning. I don't want things to get judged before the round is over in case someone decides they want to change something. After the round has been officially closed (when I check in tomorrow morning) you may start. I'd like the judges to complete their evaluations within a few days. Judging should not take too long per entry, everything is a drop down box with descriptions of what to look for. I've also removed all the repetitive yes/no type requirements (lot size) from your lists, so you only have the most important things to judge (like how awesome they look!). I have a master spreadsheet that pulls your scores in as you work on them, so you don't need to save your progress or tell me when you've finished, I'll just know.

After judging is finished, I'll reveal the secret to just the judges what the new owners have in store for their church and we will decide which 50%-75% of the church applications will be granted Building Permits. We will collectively decide which structures are best suited to the new role. While you three are working on judging, I'll draw up wall diagrams for everyone. Once we decide who will be renovating, the judges will need to briefly look over the wall diagrams for those moving forward with renovations to make sure nothing looks unnecessary. This will just require you to look at a few floor plans and as long as my drawings don't look insane (like requiring them to keep every interior wall, or singling someone out for a very hard or easy time) you should approve them. With those approved by the judges, on Monday, I'll announce the scores and who may begin renovating. We have 6 days to get this all done, so please stay on your toes!

Charmful, yes, those are the links to the official entries, but you can also just click on the links in your judging spreadsheet.

Everyone else, I will be making a separate spreadsheet that will be visible for everyone to see how each judge and myself scored you on different areas of your build. Our judges will be listed as J1, J2, and J3, and they are mixed, so don't get upset at a specific judge. If the City gave you a shitty score, and I didn't tell you about the issue when you submitted your entry, then you can give me a hard time about it, but if I warned you, don't be upset.

Cat, omg! Love!

Just started tonight the warehouse. May I ask the City if I'm going on the right direction or not ? No floorplans because it's all I did so far, and as I'm going to sleep now (my arm+shoulder hurts), I think I better ask just in case I'm going on the wrong direction before I do more tomorrow ! Good night everyone :-)

Thank you for the building permit
I used the Lot Adjustor - lot sizes in the bin and in game view are not the same (we discovered that in the previous competition). So in my game view it is 40 deep and 30 wide (but that is no wonder then that I struggled to get everything in, especially the parking )
As for the roofing and the checkered pavement - blame the poor congregation who had to quickly complete the church with their own money
Off to try some palm wine then

xmathyx, it's pretty rough, but even still, I'm not seeing it. Maybe because it is SO close to the road, or because it is very tall and uniform in height, something is just not jiving. Since there is very little to begin with, I would just start over. Getting a large blocky building right is trickier than you'd think!

Justpetro, you passed inspection, but you did not get a building permit (yet). The judges and I collectively are the ones deciding who will renovate. What I was saying was that we will consider your building when we decide who renovates. LotAdjuster includes the 10 tiles in the road, while the game doesn't, so your lot is actually a 3x3. You would need to make it a 50 deep by 30 wide in LotAdjuster to be the correct size.

Alright everyone, that's the end of the shell round! I have entries from everyone except @justJones, @kerri191, and @daman19942. Did IRL throw you three a curveball, or did you want to be removed from the contest? Jones and kerri, you both had awesome looking churches from your progress reports, I hoped to see them finished! Do you just need a bit more time? Kerri, your latest WIP post could serve as an entry, you didn't have anything grunged yet, but everything we needed to do judging was included.

Oh, I know I only passed inspection, sorry! Thank you for the inspection pass then I guess I was concentrating on the lot size and not on what I was typing.

I did not know about the 10 tiles in the road - or maybe I have just forgotten about it. I will let the 3 points go at this stage because the church will just look stupid with 10 empty rows at the back. And I cannot do something about that tonight, I will not be home. Have to go to a bar tonight (working, with the bloody band I manage, not drinking, unfortunately ).

At least I will not make the same mistake again Which is part of the reason I join building contests - learning stuff.

For those struggling to figure out the warehouse, try googling old power stations: they often have a more interesting roofline but otherwise the same basic structure as a factory/warehouse. I was getting a ton of ugly boring flat roofed places until I happened upon a photo of the old Lots Road Power Station in London.

I don't know if it's okay for me to randomly post in this thread, but I just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying looking at the various builds and following their constructions. This is a very interesting contest, and I'm hyped to see more of it in the future :P

All of your other rooms seem to have an equivalence with what was required, so I think you are fine there.

Hi Phae, The parking by the priest house is 4 x 10 squares and the car spot painting by the school is sideways but the squares are 10 x 8 so I think that makes enough room for parking 3 cars there. I'll check it for sure when I get home tonight. I think I have some deco cars to try out in those spots.

I'm planning an old trolly mechanic yard for my warehouse. They have interesting interior spaces and rooflines. I saw an interesting, real life rebuild of such a space where they put shops below and tiny apartments above. The upstairs was open in the middle to the main floor - the apartments were accessible via a walkway. The roof had lots of skylights. This contest gives me an excuse to build it.

Here is an interior of the San Francisco cable car main yard house - You can have a lot of fun repurposing the interiors.

This one is Trolley Square in Salt Lake - It's already been converted.

This renovation is a trip!

How would you like those huge funnels over your boardroom table?

Justpetro, you could split the difference and add to the front. Too late for this time, but in the future, it doesn't always have to all go in one spot.

Forever, yes! Thanks for the suggestion!

Azelanne, of course you are welcome! Thanks for following along!

Porky, the problem is that 4+ parking spaces are required, so 3 isn't enough. I love the cable car warehouse pics! That's awesome and it's helpful to see pics of how this buildings can be converted.

I need a "right track" check... Are the triangular roofs better now? And the floorplan?

Ya'll can call me Cat or Catherine - I'll happily answer to either one (Do NOT shorten it with a 'y' - unless you never want to see/read me again)
Catherine is me - the artist/jewelry designer; Cat is my alter-Sim-ego I'm not crazy. Shhhh! No, I'm not.

Here's an image of 5 cars parked. They fit even though you can't place cars on a commercial lot. I had to turn it to residential to get the game cars and use a cheat to place them. So 3 back by the schoolyard and one up front.

Well, I'm done with this one, I'm off to build a trolley house. Going shopping for tracks and big wheels.. if I can find them.... :D

So, no Catty then? Yes, you are very much on the right track now. The roof looks great and the insides is fab. I *love* that you put the foreman office overlooking the work floor. That's where it is supposed to go, but I realized I didn't specifically spell that out. My only suggestion is to move the break room toward the front of the lot upstairs so the loading dock area can be extra tall. You are working on something large, it needs to go on a pallet and then use the forklift to lift it up to get it on the truck and suddenly whatever it is got a lot taller than normal. Extra headroom is always good. Your stock room looks a little small, you could add a second one over in the top right corner and make it two levels. The next owners are going to want a lot of space, and I'm not sure you have enough yet. You could just make everything a bit bigger, or add a second wing.

Porky, I like the first image, but second junk car blocks the other three in, so it can't count as a parking space. Either way you do have space for 4, so you are set. There are deco cars available, or you can use Mog's parking spaces to get cars on your lots. I think there is even a mod that lets you place regular cars on comm lots, but I think they disappear as soon as someone visits.

Its quite easy to change a lot zoning to residential, place cars then change it back to comm.

They disappear when you zone back though... (unless one of the few mods I have causes them to vanish) cars only appear on residential and OWNED community lots, hence my parking lots lots being residential even though there's no way for a Sim to live on them.

I had cars outside my airport in the last contest and they didn't disappear. Maybe they do if it's packaged? I removed them as I wasn't sure if they were good to have permanently on the lot.

I am finding it hard to tell if all rooms are present, would it be possible for people to label them or at least write up text saying what is what. Toilets are easy enough to spot, but vestibule, sanctuary etc are not. A picture showing all the landscaping would be helpful as well.

I can get some up tonight if you need. I thought mine were pretty self-evident from the deco, but I can quickly whip up some tags when I get home from work.

You actually really did have every room pretty clear in your pics, but labels are always helpful.

For anyone concerned if their labels would block anything important there is always an option of just numbering the rooms in the pics and then in your entry text, list the numbers and say what rooms they are indicating.

Here's what I have so far. Could I get some input from the city?
I'm not sure if I have too much floor space, as there is lots of space without anything.
