This user has the following games installed:
Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Old saved hood revival with no sims in it?
So long time ago I made beautiful neighbourhood and I lost the game...Spent months on building on custom and terraformed by me terrain. I literally cried when all was gone but managed to retrieve some data from broken computer and now wanted to restart Sims2 with this particular hood. The problem is that there are some character files in subfolder of that neighbourhood (I just looked at it and 170files in Characters folder ) and I not even once played it and was just building it...till all was gone ugh... I got the terrain back which is awesome. Sitting in my terrain folder but now the hood Will go to any lengths to have it back in clean. How can I clean it? I think deleting characters files from folder isn't perhaps a good idea? Is there any way to do it? SimPe? How? Please, help me. ( I now installed all in my game to run it without townies)

Unless you use some form of clean/empty hood and stealth hood templates, new hoods will always have characters in the folders, somewhere between 150 and 300, depending which games you have. These are townies/NPCs. Doesn't matter if you haven't made a single character, because these are made when you load the hood the first time, during the splash/loading screens.
Most likely the neighborhood is fine. You can always test a copy of it to see if it runs alright.
You should not delete characters directly from the folder, that's a very bad idea and will corrupt the neighborhood.

If so, it's probably best to extract the lots and hood template (or use the original template, that might be the easiest unless you made one yourself), and remake the hood.

If you didn't originally create it from the empty templates, there's no easy, safe way to remove all of those townies. If you want a clean hood, you'll have to package all the lots and create a new one from the empty templates.

There's a hood replacer tool and some tutorials on how to extract lots without having to package them.
