What do you do in "Real Life" when the fridge is empty and you and the kids are hungry? Plain and simple take your butt to the grocery store, or call a store that make a delivery of food to the home. Otherwise just be a "Fool" and stand there and wait for the "Grim Reaper" to come and take you the hungry Sims parents and the hungry Sims kids away to death roll. That will be the end of that problem.

I have a mod that tells me when the refrigerator has less than 50 food, so when that happens, sometimes I will have the sim call delivery, and other times, I will send them out to buy groceries, just depends on how I feel at the moment.

I have a simblr now! Check it out: simblr

Grocery store trip! Or leftovers if people are really hungry, but then after that they run out to the store. Not only does this reroll wants and give my sims a change of scene, not only is every community lot visit an opportunity for random chance to turn up some opportunity I'd like to take advantage of, but often things happen in the background - enemies made, old friends running into each other, best friendships made, aspiration failure averted by fulfilling that Meet Someone New want, aspiration failure risked in a caught cheating event, the time Sage Ann chased her Uncle Pierre around the lot trying to family kiss him, children playing, teens connecting, old lovers finally burying the hatchet - so many possibilities! Now that I have playable-owned businesses with groceries, I can also build their businesses by sending other playables to them.

Also, I found the delivery dance on the porch to be a pain in the neck, back in my experimental days when I tried it. Delivery is boring. It presents no story possibilities. You can't even seduce the delivery man!

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

Generally my sims order groceries, but some of them will go out and buy them, especially if they're poor and want to save the $50 from the delivery charge. They'll also go out and buy them if they have other things they want to do on a community lot - go on a date or an outing with friends, go swimming, buy other stuff like greetings cards or clothes, visit the beach, whatever.

My BACC sims, on discovering that the fridge is empty, will live off leftovers whilst they (and I!) hope that their crops are ready to harvest before the leftovers run out..... Unless there is already a park or beach lot, in which case they'll go fishing for a while - I don't allow ponds on residential lots in early-stage BACC lots because I think it makes it too easy.

I use a mod that stops fresh fruit/veg & fish from having "sparkles" and satisfying more hunger, so it doesn't matter if sims are eating fresh food or not, they don't miraculously get their hunger bar completely filled by eating one sandwich! :-)

I'm all over the map, with regard to groceries. Currently, I have the mod Maxon mentioned (ooh, alliteration!) that causes sims to pick up groceries on the way to work. I'm not completely happy with it either, though. Not sure why; it's just annoying sometimes.

I also have the mod that warns me when supplies are getting low, and that one I'll always keep, because as someone else mentioned, having to stop everything in order to get groceries NAO is just too mundane and annoying. With some warning, I've got a bit of time to decide what I want to do.

Usually, I have sims call for delivery, as I'm too lazy to take sims to community lots very often. I'm looking to start taking sims out more, though, so grocery stops may be in the cards more too.

I've also used debug mode's Restock option for the fridge, as it's faster than selling/rebuying the fridge, which I've also done. I don't think Restock costs anything, though, so I don't often go that route.

Slightly off-topic, perhaps: One of my favorite things to do is start sims with an empty fridge (there are a few empty CC "pantries" out there) and force them to find food other ways until they get a garden going to fill the fridge/pantry.

I'm undecided with regard to the mod that removes the hunger boost from fresh food.

I can't have one in real life. I play game to escape real life. So maid orders groceries.

I have an empty fridge mod, I think it's this one, so that when you buy a new fridge in buy mode, it's always empty. It's kind of annoying sometimes, but a lot more realistic. So when my food runs out, I usually order a pizza (no one went to the store and no one feels like cooking). Then I'll have a sim go to the grocery store the next day or later.

My sims usually buy groceries when they are out shopping, but they buy in small amounts so they get to go and buy some more again. If they happen to have an empty fridge and the stomach is growling I either send them to a community lot restaurant or order pizza, if things are not so urgent they go buy groceries themselves. Sometimes I use the home delivery option but not that often.

Depends on the family and the hood. In some cases I just buy a new fridge. Some sims on the other hand start with an empty pantry fridge and have to live off fish and boots until their crop rolls in. Occasionally I will call for groceries but the delivery people are stupid and annoying, or I will send them to my grocery store. Many garden and usually there is some fresh food before the leftovers run out. Sims in my hostel eat the cafeteria food and don't buy groceries at all.

I was too, but when I finally took the plunge and stuck it in my downloads folder I found that I like it, on the whole. It was useful that a pregnant sim could be on the verge of starving to death and then eat a plate of fish and promptly have a full hunger bar, but I do tend towards "realism" (to a point!) so I do like the mod and will be keeping it....

Quickly filling very hungry pregnant sims is definitely one of the best uses of sparkly food, but the main thing is simply having leftovers available, sparkly or not.

Nonetheless, I'd really like to see some differentiation between home-grown and store-bought, and am not fond of the idea of removing it. Maybe if there was a mod to make fresh food only slightly more filling, and still sparkly? I kinda like the sparkles.

I'll probably end up using the mod, though, because one thing I don't like to do is toss a plate that has barely been touched, yet I also don't like sims to get 3-4 meals out of the same plate of leftovers.

Decisions, decisions.

That^ I think seeing they worked hard to grow it, that my organic (mostly is grown with compost and lady bug houses) homegrown food should be somewhat more filling, but it does tend to be too filling and sims are always getting fat unless I watch them like hawks. I don't think salads should make anyone fat.

^ Also that. In my ideal world there would be 3 different kinds of food, differentiated by fillingness and sparkliness (or lack thereof) - shop-bought food, normal home-grown food and "organic" home-grown food. Shop-bought food would be non-sparkly and the least filling. Normal home-grown food, grown using fertilizer and/or spraying would be (somewhat) sparkly and somewhat more filling. And "organic" home-grown food would be the most filling, and sparkly. I'm sure that would be impossible to implement, but a girl can dream, right!

If there was a mod that worked in the way Darby suggests I would be a happy bunny....

I used to have that problem, then I got the mod that makes them stop eating once they are full. By far one of my favorite mods. If you want it, I could locate it for you.

^^ Yes! I have and love that mod. I'm enough of a micro-manager that I was always able to stay on top of eating sims and stop them when they'd get full before, but it's very nice to not have to. I even like the fact that lazy sims are still allowed to autonomously overeat with this mod. Sometimes I stop them myself; sometimes I don't. I like to have a few fat sims.

eta: The mod is Pescado's NoEatCrap. From the rtfm:
Sims (who are not fat or lazy) will no longer stuff themselves until they
explode. Lazy and fat sims will continue to eat everything and thus can
still become fat, because sometimes, you just want fat people. Sims who would
not eat out of a trash can will cease eating food that has gone spoiled.

Sims will talk considerably less when eating, especially if they are in a
hurry (because they're tired, starving, need to pee, have more orders), or
if they're eating without the benefit of chairs.

You guys are so nice to your Sims....that don't seem to know what's best for themselves. My Sims get no such mods, or coddling. If they overeat and get fat, then they have to either live with their choices, or get to the gym (kind of like real life).

Heck, I actually have Cyjon's 'Stuff Your Fat Face' mod. It adds fat points to Sims that feel the need to stand at the fridge and shovel food in their mouth...even when their not hungry.

Clearly I don't like rewarding Sims bad or annoying behaviors.

I always have them go to the store and buy their groceries, unless they're my legacy family who is too rich and snoddy to do menial tasks like go get groceries. There has been ONE time (since I've really started to play my game more "correctly") that I bought a new fridge and it was because my family was really hungry and the Headmaster was there and I wanted to get those Sim kiddos into a Private School. (I have CommunityTime, where they don't come back until when they left the community lot)

I don't feel like I'm coddling them. It just makes sense to me that active sims would tend to stay slimmer, and lazy sims would be more likely to be heavy. The mod is perfect for causing active sims to self-regulate, while leaving lazy sims to their own devices. Less work for me, so if there's coddling, it's me coddling myself.

Same here. For me, this is one of those things where EA code is silly and needs to be fixed. Someone that is super active and slim don't usually stuff their face every meal, and I don't see why my Sims who are that way would. I make sure they get to go on the occasional unhealthy splurge (cookies for breakfast, chips for dinner and so on) but to me that is more natural as well. Eating okay each day, with the occasional binge-eating of something bad for you.

What I would love is some kind of fat-scale not tied to hunger-filling, so that eating pancakes for breakfast was worse for the fat-scale than eating an omelet is. Realism <3

If they have access to a pond (most of my lots do) I have them fish for a meal then send someone out the next day for groceries. It gets the sims out of the house and they can socialise a little while shopping. If I'm in a rush I just order it by delivery.

Most of the time I just use delivery, but in emergencies I'll buy a new fridge.

Before Seasons, I bought new fridges. It's a lot faster than waiting for the delivery truck, and I don't have some nitwit ringing the doorbell and waking everyone up. After Seasons, I make everyone keep a garden and no one has to buy food ever; being able to store Leftovers helps.

Also, the sim business-community lot I run all the time is a grocery/general store, so whenever I play houses Sims often have baskets of food in their inventory, waiting to be stored.

I usually send one of my Sims to the grocery store, but in an emergency I will buy them a new fridge. I had so much trouble with delivery glitches that I haven't had a Sim order in a long time.

When I learn that the fridge ran out of groceries sims are usually so hungry that they order prepared pizza, otherwise they might drop dead while cooking. If you add visiting a community lot to their woes, the chances of dropping are even higher

The mod to warn about groceries running out has helped. But going to a community lot depends on my own mood. If I feel like playing out minute details of their lives they would go. Or if there's time to do it. If not... pizza and some groceries for futher cooking.

That must be one thing that transfers from RL into the game. Food is so insignificant.
