Teenage Dream
Ever imagine living on your own when you're a teen? The glamorous life, making out on the couch, nobody to answer to... With this challenge, you can do all that and more!

Rules:
No money cheats!
You may not go to college until the final day of being a teen.
You can't change your job after you take it, so chose wisely!
If you lose your job, you must wait until you can get that EXACT same job again. You may use any cheats/mods to get that job again.
Jobs are not mandatory!

How To:
First, download this mod: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=20309
Create a teen and their parent(s) in Cas.
Move them onto a lot. You can immediately move your teen out, OR you could make them hate their parents first.

Housing:
You have two choices, buying a house or renting an apartment.

Move the teen into a house that they can barely afford, without anything in it.
Build these rooms in order until you run out of cash:
Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room, Bedroom.
You must have a Tv, a couch, 1 sink, a tub, a toilet, a microwave, a trash can, and the mini fridge. (Uni only)
If you have more than 200 simoleans after furnishing, use the familyfunds cheat (ExampleLastName familyfunds 200) to reduce your money down to 200 simoleans.

(I do not have Apartment Life, so this is all just from my limited knowledge. Please don't hesitate to tell if some of the information is false/wrong. Thank you! )

Move your teen into an apartment alone. They must pay their rent and bills on the same day each week.
If you have more than 200 simoleans after moving in, use the familyfunds cheat (ExampleLastName familyfunds 200) to reduce your money down to 200 simoleans.

Scoring:

+3 each time you order pizza or (Uni only) Chinese food
+3 each time you make out on the couch with a different person
+5 for getting a job
+5 if you have a party crashed by the cops
+5 for each crush
+10 for each bf/gf
+15 if you get over 15,000 aspiration points (including ones you spend)
+10 if you beat the social bunny in a fight
+10 if you get an A+
+15 for each scholarship you receive (Uni only)
+20 for each friend you have
+30 for buying a car other than the Smoogoo
+50 if you reach the top of your chosen job

-5 each time you get sick
-5 each time you pass out on the floor
-10 if you lose a fight with the social bunny
-10 for each enemy (excluding the parents)
-15 if you lose your job
-20 if you get a D report card
-20 if you make an enemy
-20 if you meet the Grim Reaper
-25 if the therapist shows up

Tips:
Get the best couch you can, you'll need it for sleeping.
Get a mirror, fire alarm, phone, and burglar alarm as soon as you can afford them.
I wouldn't use the period hack if I where you, it makes this MUCH harder.
Chose a job that involves skills that can be earned by cleaning or cooking things.

Have fun! And post pics if you feel like it!

So I assume the teen is allowed other stuff too, as well as the things you list? Or is it just the things in that list, and a mirror, which you mention in the tips section? What about a phone? Fire alarm? Burglar alarm?

Yes, as soon as you can afford them.

So do you mean that I should build a fairly large house, with big rooms etc, to spend most of my money, leaving only enough to buy the items you list, and then my sim can buy more stuff when they get paid etc.... Or am I still not getting it? It's kind of confusing.....

I had once played like that, my teen lived in a small one-room house without kitchen! But she had a lot of money from working as a DJ, so it was no real challenge. Although it was tricky to become accepted to private school, because of no food, that had to be done by schmoozing. Old times... I'll probably try this challenge.

By the way, you don't need a moveout hack if you just kill the teen's parents. Well that's what I did

Yes, and you can use expensive paint, flooring, windows, and doors. I usually model mine after the condos in Pleasantview.

Glad you like it, Babahara! You could kill off the parents, and that would give you a Scholarship. Hrm... I think I'm going to edit the rules do not count the Orphan's Assistance as an actual scholarship.

Cool, I shall give it a shot! :-D Feeling very awake now, so may start up the game and get started now, though I should probably wait until morning! :-)

**EDIT**

Get started? Well, I just finished! Amelia Saunders just started university.... :-) With 3000 simoleans in her back pocket, too, from three scholarships! It was not all plain sailing, however. She and her parents, Kelvin and Grace, had just moved to Callindale Hills when her father was offered a new job in the Far East. Amelia didn't want to move though, so her parents arranged for her to stay in Callindale Hills with her uncle. Just after her parents left, her uncle decided to join a cult, so Amelia was left alone in a house that she could barely afford to furnish, with only 2 simoleans to her name!

The first few days were very difficult. Amelia didn't have enough money for a bed, and all her wages from her job with the Military was needed for a phone and a fire alarm, and a mirror to allow her to gain charisma for a promotion. So she was constantly tired, got behind on her homework, and passed out 5 times. Then things got worse - she got the flu. But she managed to get better quite quickly, and she got promoted soon after. The money from that allowed her to buy a cheap bed - hooray!

Things got easier after that. She had a bit of extra cash, and ordered Chinese - yum! She even had time to socialise, making four friends. She had crushed on the two teenage boys that she made friends with, Orlando and Randy, but soon decided that Orlando was the one for her, and they ended up going steady. She spent a lot of time building her skills, too, and soon got promoted to the top of the Military career track. Sometime in that second week she also got an A+. That weekend, the last weekend that she'd spend as a teenager, she spent a lot of time building her cooking skill, and when she got home from school on Monday she called the local university to see if she'd be eligible for any scholarships. And she was! Three, in fact, one for her good grades, one for reaching the top of her career, and one for her cooking skill! She phoned the admissions department straight away, and left for university soon after, on the day that she was due to grow up. Young adulthood awaits! :-D

Points:

Got a job +5, passed out -25, got sick -5, four friends +80, 2 crushes +10, ordered Chinese +3, top of career +50, A+ +10, one boyfriend +10, made out on the couch +3, three scholarships +45.

Total: 186 :-D

I really enjoyed this challenge, and will do it again soon! I want to play Amelia for a while first though, I've grown quite fond of her!

I have a few questions:

1. Is getting a job mandatory? With the addition of Nightlife and University, it is more profitable and less time consuming to just go out and work as a barista or dj. I know that I'd be missing out on what should be a fairly easy scholarship, but still.
2. Can we use aspiration rewards? Using the elixir of life smells a bit like cheating, but if the teen sim can somehow amass 30k aspiration points, (s)he deserves it!!
3. Killing off the parents is so time consuming... I just have the parents move out and leave the teen alone. If the orphan scholarship is taken away, could there be a small bonus for going through all the extra effort (and stress on the teen) of killing the parents?

As I understand the rules, killing the parents is not compulsary. In fact, bleasie suggests moving the whole family onto a lot, then moving out the teen using a hacked computer. Hence no orphan scholarship. I didn't kill the parents when I played, instead I used Inge's teleporter from Simlogical to turn them into Far East locals, as that fitted in with the story I wanted! Maybe it would make sense to either give a small bonus or allow the orphan scholarship if you kill them without cheats (ie fire etc), but not if you cheat and use Rodney's Death Creator or a hacked weapon or whatever to make it happen quickly!

I didn't use any aspriation awards, but I don't know what the rules say about them. My teen didn't earn enough points for anything good anyway! Don't know about the job thing either, I shall be interested to see what bleasie has to say about it :-) If you didn't get a job, though, you'd lose out on a potential 70 points, as I make it (+5 for getting a job, +50 for reaching the top of the career, +15 for the scholarship), so could make it hard to score high!

First off, lauratje86 I love the story you added. It's a very nice touch. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

1. Getting a job isn't mandatory. I'll edit the rules to add some more ways to play without a job.

2. All aspiration rewards are usable! (I'll add that too.) For my very first sim on this challenge, she had TWO teen lifetimes. 2 days before she aged, she used the Elixir of Life around 4 times. This time, she had 2 girlfriends, a decent bed, and a medium size swimming pool.

3. I might add something relating to death.

Please note: I check this post each day, so any and all questions should be asked. This will help me further the challenge, and it will add to your gameplay.

In my game, it seems that teens can't work as a barista or bartender. Is that supposed to be like that, or is my game having hack conflict issues? If it is like that as standard, does anyone know if teen sims can work as a DJ? And does the lemonade stand work for teens or just for children?

Oh, and dating? Awesome. My latest teen was given a karaoke machine and a dance sphere - a couple of clicks in buy mode and he had 5,300 simoleans, which bought him a nice bed, proper fridge, stove and fire alarm.

Anyone got any tips on what apiration(s) are best/easiest for this challenge? I'm finding my current Popularity sim much easier than my last one, who was a Knowledge sim. Managed to get way more aspiration points, which equals Energizer, the hat with a lightbulb thing, and Elixir of Life!! :-)

exactly how much money should the teen have? Because I was going to use the familyfunds cheat to give my teen a low amount of money, considering around $20,000 is a lot for a teen who was kicked out to have.

Also, if we have Apartment Life, can we move our teen into a small apartment that costs under $1500 rent (I was thinking of the City Center Lofts Apartment complex)? No roommate allowed, of course. I was thinking that might be more of a challenge than a house considering the rent is due every Monday on top of bills and all that.

I also have another question. I have a LOT of downloaded careers (vampire friendly versions of every career path) so it would take me a really long time to re-find a particular job. Am I allowed to use the SimBlender to put my teen back in her career path?

Yes, I'm still alive! Here is some of the answers to your questions.

sierraa13: It would be 3 points. Thanks for mentioning that. GL!

lecielnousaide: Using familyfunds is a great idea, go for it! Renting an apartment is allowed, but use faimlyfunds to make your money around $1700. And finally, using the SimBlender is fine to find a certain job. GL.

Funny you should mention bills...they actually come more often than the rent is due -- the rent is due on Mondays (unless somebody uses a cheat to fix that) and the bills come more than once a week (again, unless a cheat is used -- but that would be against the spirit of the challenge! =P) And I think that the apartment shouldn't be more than $1500 rent...because even that can be a lot for a teen, considering the Maxis made apartments range from about $900-$6000 a week.

This sounds like much fun to me.
But since you do not have AL, some little things might be confusing...
You cannot use build mode after moving into an apartment...so if you do chose to move your teen into one instead of a house, you won't be able to build those rooms in order. They will just have to be already there.
If this makes any difference...

For the parents, or getting rid of them, you don't need to kill them or even use a mod.
Just move your family on an empty lot, and wait for the paper boy.
Once a newspaper have been delivered, ask one parent to "find own place"
When the screen comes up, add the other parent to the moving out-sims-list.
Here you go. Teens are allowed to live alone. They are just not alone to be created alone, or moving out alone.

Now that papa & mama is gone, your sim can start building his/her Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room, Bedroom.
You probably need to use the familycheat to reajust the money your teen has, since you would have bought an empty lot (less expensive) and not a house.
Then again, this can be done on an existing house lot..but if you need to build these 4 rooms...then why move into a house that already has them.

If ever this is going against your rules Bleasie, correct me.
