Default Good Guide
Great guide.

I enjoyed reading it and creating the new "personalised" object.

Default Colors mixing?
Hi there, nice tutorial, I'm having an issue though. I followed everything you had here, up to where I want to save. I'm on a mac, so it does the whole 'your image should be exported before it can be saved cause bmp plug-in can't handle layers' thing. If I choose 'merge visible layers' and hit 'export', everything looks fine in GIMP, but when I preview in body shop the dress is a completely different color than red! It's like the colors of the green background layer and the red new layer are mixing when the visible layers are merged? I don't know how to fix it...
A screen shot of the saved GIMP, and how it looks in bodyshop.

Bitmaps can't have layers at all... whether you're on a PC or a Mac. I'm thinking that maybe something is going wrong while exporting... that perhaps only certain layers are being exported. I would suggest flattening the whole image and just doing a straight "save" (not "export").

I am on a Mac too and I just started trying this tonight... had the same problem at first. When you go to save and the menu pops up, choose the option that says "flatten image" instead of "merge visible layers" (which is the default for some reason). Then click Export. Then go into bodyshop and have it reload your file, it should come up the right color now. **Also, if you can't see the texture of the dress underneath your recolor once you do this, change the filter to Soft Light instead of Hard.

I typed up a help file for how to do the second tutorial on Mac, if anyone wants it.

Help? I just installed GIMP. There is no dialogues or hard light on my version. It's the newest version, I think (it's august 2009, if the date helps) I got all the way to step 17, and then found out that i can't find any of the buttons on the toolbar to follow the next directions. does anyone know what i've done wrong?

On the top toolbar click on windows and go down to select dockable dialogs then find layers on the choice bar that comes up, it should open another window and on that window it will say normal with a down arrow next to it, click the arrow and go down to find hard light.

On the new version, you have 3 boxes open. 1 is the toolbox, 2 is the window you are creating in, and 3 is the Layers, Channels, Paths... Look in box 3, the very first tab (looks like white towels folded up) is the Layers section. Directly below that tab is the word LAYERS and then below that is MODE. If you click on the dropdown box to the right of MODE, you will find what you are looking for!

Everything worked perfectly in the tutorial until you said to click "dialogue". I don't see that as an option, and I can't find where else I could select "hard light".

Default Well..
I use gimp to make clothing etc. for other games, to make it not as blurry, you save it as a different file type.

:D
