This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise, Into the Future
Default How can I limit the risk of experiencing lag during the recording of videos?
I want to get back into recording videos after taking a long hiatus due to personal reasons. But I want to try and figure out some methods to stop the game from lagging or freezing while recording videos. I do have NRaas' Master Controller mod, which I use to keep the game running smoothly. But that doesn't stop the game from sometimes freezing at inconvenient times. Even if I create a new save and delete certain objects, it can still happen.

I have been using the option to reset everything before recording videos. But that doesn't always help. In fact I'm starting to question if I should actually do that before recording videos. Since they seem to make popup messages appear more frequently. Here is a video that I took in 2019 where lag/freezing is definitely apparent. And since I don't have any video editing software, I am not equipped with any tricks that can be used to edit the videos so the audio remains in sync and people can't tell that the lag/freezing existed in the first place.

are you talking about micro pulse freezes? Those are more or less unavoidable.

- if you are only recording on one lot like in your video, perhaps you can disable autonomy. There might be mods out there that let you disable autonomy on all lots except the active lot, im not sure. but of course the less thing going on outside your lot in the other part of the world, the better and smoother your game runs. or you can alternatively, if you only need to record 1 lot for say story writing, use an empty world with only that 1 lot.

- trying putting as much stuff on ramdisk as possible, such as your user folder. this helps. alternatively you can try recording on a ramdisk.

- make sure you unpark your CPU cores, in many cases this helps a lot and makes the game less idle, less pulsy, more smoothly.

- outside of Sims 3, make sure you do not have any programs doing autoupdating, virus scanners doing scanning

- also what recorder are you using? OB is popular, but because it needs to compress your video, it requires CPU resource and could interfere with game operation or even frame drop in recording. FRAP is smoother by far, but requires huge HDD space.

If you use OB, change the core affinity and devote say 1-2 cores to OB, but take those cores off Sims 3, so they do not share the same cores.

Eg. 8 core system -

1-2: OB
3-8: Sims 3

What are Micro Pulse freezes? Also I record videos using the recorder that's built into the game.

Uh, do not use the recorder in the game, it sucks.

OBS: https://obsproject.com/download

FRAPS: https://fraps.com/download.php

Micro-pulse freezes are like anywhere from a fraction of a second to a second. They are similar to say FPS skips b/c of all that is going on in the open world. If you are having actual freezes like more than 1-2 seconds, that might be due to something else, mods, or something, or often a routing error somewhere.

Here are samples of how it typically records on my system. I'm sure many others can do it better as this was done with a 650m, 7200 rpm HDD. But it was recorded with OBS, I didn't separate the cores, with user files on RAMdisk.

That's actually pretty good for in game recording. Did you use some sort of modification? I remember when I recorded with the in game recorder, it gets blocky from the compression when there are fast movements.

But also, it is limited to 480p. But again, you might be able to modify it.

I deleted all the tombstones and inventory items, and I used NRaas' Master Controller mod to reset all the objects in the town and all the Sims, excluding the ones that appeared in the video. This was just a copy of my master save, so nothing was lost.

I see... there was a long pause at 2:00 mark. That's usually something like a routing error and probably a sim got reset.

I don't see any long pauses. Oh wait, are you referring to the Bonehilda video?

Yeah, b/c I wanted to know what you mean in your OP about pausing. A long pause like that is not normal. Can you post your deviceconfig log file? Just the system info part?
