Default Needs Testing: Child Handiness Animations
Anyone want to test children repairing stuff??

To go with @kls77 's ITUN mod enabling handiness interactions for children (https://modthesims.info/d/661601/ch...d-upgrade.html), I've converted a bunch -- though not ALL -- animations.

Contained in this package are child animations to repair:
  • Shower
  • Trash Compactor
  • Computer
  • Laptop
  • Computer on Counter
  • Laptop on Counter
  • Dishwasher
  • Stereo
  • TV
  • Bathtub

NOT included (yet?) are:
  • Toilet
  • Sink
  • A bunch of stuff I'm sure I missed. The list of interactions in the ITUN mod is extensive.

I've done spot testing, but it's a lot of animations In addition to possible missing or broken CLIPs, some animations might not line up with the objects being repaired.

I'm not sure if I can do anything reasonable with sink repair because a child would need to be standing on a stool for the animation to make sense, and I know of no way to add a prop without replacing the jazz script.

I partly took this on because I needed a project to structure some Blender education I need for other projects. Also, I just love seeing kids do things.

(My 10yo daughter was offended by this project because she thinks no child should be expected to repair dishwashers and stuff. )

At any rate, here's a package with the animations. It is ONLY the animations. To use them, you'll need kls77's mod.

I'll do some testing tomorrow. Thank you for doing this!

That is funny, my boys would have loved it if I let them take any of that stuff apart and put it back together again. Of course if was usually not in need of repair when they wanted to do it..

Alright Echo, I did a bunch of testing and posted the results over on Tumblr. Enjoy Cassandra Goth moaning and groaning.

I'm working on fixes for the issues discovered, but of course those would be the harder ones to fix!

I don't know why the computer animations at the desk are backing through the chair. I assume that I hadn't set the z-coordinate for the sim appropriately for a child sitting in a chair, but it matches the other EA child chair animations. I have changed the z-coordinate to one that seems to work, but I feel like there's some deep reason it's not behaving as expected that may screw things up. Now, though, the child sticks her hands through the keyboard instead of poking at the the computer case. I'm looking at how I might change the angle of the arms.

I haven't looked at the laptop animations yet.

Have you included the IK targets from the original animations? It makes it so the arms, legs and root position/rotation are correspondent to the area of the object they need to be at (e.g. when a Sim is sitting, their root is snapped to the sit slot of a chair). Although adding the IK targets will solve this, the animations could still look a little janky because the bones that the IK targets get assigned to are converted from the adult animations, but I know a way of properly converting the animations (along with the IK targets) between different age groups so they look better, but it is tedious to do at first

Sorry for not responding sooner.

I really need to figure out IK targets. I'm pretty sure you wrote a tutorial on the subject, but I don't think I had enough background to figure it out at the time I tried to read it. I'll go back to that and see what I can learn. I think I've had issues several places in different mods that are probably related to IK targets.
