The family photo should not change just because some sims got red from being too hot. As if you would reshoot your family photo for that.

Moving all your Sims 2 stuff to a new computer sure is a mentally tiring task. I haven't played in a year (precisely because I dreaded setting up the game lol) and there's quite a few settings that need to be tweaked that I forgot how to do. Eeeek.

I dread that too. I try to remember to note down all the additional steps on notepad, but there's so much to do I probably forget to write down some of it. Best to jot it down after you've just done it so it's fresh in your mind.

I remember someone once asking how they could get good face shots of their sims for their database. This totally reminded me of their post. Picasa's face scanning function, which I can't help finding a bit creepy that it did this (by itself) so well from a bunch of large screenshots.

Do you have access to the old computer? If so, install the game on your new computer. Rename the [Install Location]\EA GAMES folder to [Install Location]\Backup_EA GAMES. Then connect both computers to your router and then copy the [Install Location]\EA GAMES folder from your old computer to your new computer. Likewise copy the C:\Users\[username]\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder to the new computer. Then, setup the graphics rules file for your new computer's graphics card. Your install is now identical to your old install.
If you can't switch the old computer on, you could remove the hard drive and connect it to your new PC (internally or externally), and copy the files from there.

That's exactly what I did-when my old computer fried itself, the person who built the new one just removed the entire hard drive and made it into the external drive, where all my games are. It's a life saver, because it also has all my downloads and my installed game. As a matter of fact, I can't play the game without it being connected to the new computer. Weird, but whatever..

Yeah I had it all on a memory stick. Gave it a try today and actually there was less tweaking to do than I thought, it's all fine. Just had to delete one file related to a new graphics card and it's back running again. Thanks for the help, i sure did miss this game

Oh good, I have so many config mods and extras added to my install files, it would take ages to re-do all of those. So when I need to install a new hard drive or change computers, I copy them over once I've installed. Tip- keep a copy of the pristine installation files if you can, these are great for referring to or if you want to test something or play an unmodded game.

With all the lot uploads we've been getting lately, you should maybe change the site name from "Mod The Sims" to "House The Sims" ??

I know this will be posted as being yesterday-but a national holiday happened today:

The initial release of Sims 2, on September 14, 2004.

Where's the cake!

I feel like we should start planning for the 20th anniversary party in 3 years now, just to make sure we have time to do it right... don't you think?

I'm actually, seriously thinking of re-installin my game and combining a Sims 2 version of the decades challenge with Beginning of Pleasantview.
On problem however, is that I want certain Sims to be certain ages during specific decades. So I'll have to calculate how to fudge that. Blergh.
I might also have to add a generation or two.

I really need to come up with something more to do with the medieval fantasy world I'm gradually putting together... It's definitely given me good ideas for Sims builds, (finished and unfinished) but there's 2 problems there- One, I don't build fast enough for TS2 to have that world 'finished' anytime in the foreseeable future, and two, there's lots of aspects of it that I'm figuring out that would really have nothing whatsoever to do with a particular building, and might not even really be something that I could make relevant in the mini-stories I use as lot descriptions here, but that are still a major aspect of the world.

I need to find friends to run a D&D campaign set in it, or figure out a longer story that I can write just as a writing project that's set there, or something.... I really like this world as I'm figuring more out about it, and I want something that will let me realize it better than just in my own imagination!

In case you're building for your own game play, may I suggest something completely out of the ordinary, but would be completely in line with your 'fantasy' world?

I'm pretty sure that GOS will have the annual "Spooky Dip" they sponsor every year-but they haven't announced when it runs, yet.

LOL, what a weird post to disagree on. Anyway, I forgot about spooky dip. I was wondering if people were planning to participate in Simblreen. this year or had any plans for Halloween builds, stories etc.

A quick but urgent question!

Alan Orr is about to go to university. He's been accepted into LGU, and the taxi has arrived to take him. But the plan was always for Alan and his boyfriend River to go together. I thought I'd get an option to choose friends to go with him, but the taxi is here, and there's no such option so far. Do I get the option later, or do I have to use the Send Teens to University option in the LGU 'hood to send River with him?

Believe it or not, Alan is the first teen in my whole game to actually go to uni. I added the University EP at the beginning of 2017. I am not a "fast" player.

You have to use the Send Teens to University option. If you want to see the cut-scene with a parent sending him off, move Alan into a dormitory on his own initially. If you want the household to have a name other than Orr, you can choose one when you send River, then place River in a different dormitory and move Alan in with him.

Could I send Alan now and then move River into the same dorm as him? And then change the name of the household (possibly to "Orr & Co.")? I would like to have them both in LGU Dorm 2. Both Dorm 1 and Dorm 3 already contain Sims that I made in Create-a-Student, and the Compound Dorm of course contains the Nerdists, so Dorm 2 is the only empty dorm. I believe in moving all new students into a dorm if possible as I believe it should help them to socialise and make new friends. (I like t run things in my game the way I think they ought to be done in real life.)

Oh, yes, there's no problem with merging YA households. River will appear in the Student Bin as his teen self and Dorm 2 will be one of the options available to him for move in. When moved into the existing Orr Household there will be no cutscene, but he will grow up (probably into a random awful outfit) at the curb, get any aspiration points for going to college that are due him, and be able to claim a room.

If you want to change the household name, you'll have to use an editing tool. I only know how to do it in SimPE, but possibly others can do it, too. Household names work just like they do in the main hood.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

I don't delve into necessarily spooky stuff but take time to make a series of autumn pictures every year since like 2018. It's my favorite season and looks best in October where I live.

Thanks BlueAlien and Peni. Alan has now moved into a room at Dorm 2 at LGU. He was accompanied by his aging father who seemed quite upset. I think Alan is the first member of their family to go to university. Alan has grown up into clothes that actually suit him, and that I think he might well have chosen for himself. His everyday top is one of sushigal's tropical shirts, and he's paired it with a pair of shiny black shorts similar to the ones that Andrew likes to wear to school. As Andrew says, "Long enough to be respectable, but short enough to be sexy." (They're actually the Maxis "silk" underwear converted to a separate and with a pair of trainers added -- my own conversion.)

I also rather like the new dormies who have generated. Most have CC hair, and several are wearing CC clothes.

Of course I've posted this in the wrong thread. I meant to post in the Stupid/Random Questions thread, but in my haste to get an answer I posted in the Random Thoughts thread instead. Sorry for my mistake! In my defence I can only say that every question starts with a thought. Before I can ask a question about something, first I have to think about it!

So, my thoughts about what's happening: Alan appears to be enjoying his time at university. . . . And I'm enjoying it too.
