I was doing the winter picture (because I'm busy the next week or so), managed to take one picture ingame after decorating the lot, was just going to do a few minor changes to the composition, then the screen went black and my laptop restarted. I'm so glad I decided to take a picture before I changed anything, because otherwise I'd been really pissed off right now. I also saved most of the setup on the lot, so if I decide to do it over again I haven't lost everything. I really liked that setup... I've been doing backups more frequently ever since my laptop started weirding out, so if it does die a horrible death sometime in the future, at least the losses won't be too hard. But I think it's about time I get a new one, since my first laptop had a similar blackout thing for a while too (eventually it wouldn't work even with the power cord). It's the second time in two play sessions this happens (possibly one or two times non-game related as well). |
My old computer is luckily running but with its user flipping figuring out that it's not that easy to arrange good pictures. So here my failed attemps: I put the season to winter just to find out that the pond was not frozen and butterflies were around and I searched for a cheat to force some snow... well, next year I guess.. or next weekend!
Much luck to everyone!

I've had some troubles with seasons/weather (it takes too much resources on my laptop, and I sometimes get pink-flashing on my other computer when there's deep snow on the lot, and now I don't dare to play on it beause there's possibly something wrong with the RAM slots and maybe the motherboard - the two computers decided to start failing roughly at the same time, of course ), so I don't use weather unless absolutely neccessary. I did my autumn picture while in ingame spring wiht weather off (only changed it to autumn last minute to change the light), and same with the winter picture I've already done (just waiting to post it) - I downloaded a bunch of wintery/snow recolors + snow ground covers. Works quite nicely, and except for the ground obviously not being ingame snow you can't really tell it's not winter in the picture because it looks quite wintery.
I use the weather controller from simswardrobe, where you can force weather and seasons on the lot if I do decide I need weather for something. I also have a "constant temperature" and "no weather" hack for when I don't want any weather besides spring, sun and comfy temperatures. My laptop doesn't like the skin overlays for freesing/sunburn, and the constant weather changes...

Scores Fall Entry
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 9.5 | 5 | 4 | 5 | 23.5 | Lovely Pose and outerwear. I would have liked to have seen more seasonal effects other than just the leaves. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 2 | 5 | 22 | Absolutely adorable baby. While she is playing with autumn leaves as required; all of the trees/surroundings/weather still appear to be mid-summer. Maybe go a bit further with the background surroundings on your next photo! |
Judge 3 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 21 | Good use of framing and depth of field with the leaves in the foreground. The background is lacking of thematic relevance and makes the focus of the scene feel planted in a different setting. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 8.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 23.5 | Seasonal effects well done. I would have liked to have seen more posing as she looks like she is just standing there. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Charming baby. great setup. Very well done! |
Judge 3 | 8 | 5 | 4 | 5 | 22 | Pumpkin use could be more mixed to reduce repetition and looks less artificial. Although not drastically varied; the palette of yellows and oranges does not feel restrictive given the arrangement of the pumpkins. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 9 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 23 | He is sure having fun. Just those colorful decorations in front of the toddler takes a bit of attention away from the toddler himself. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Gorgeous shot. Do be careful with your background setup--the wagon wheel is visibly cutting into the stone wall. |
Judge 3 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 22 | Good mixture of back-; middle-; and foreground elements. Subtle use of coloring/lighting on the stone complements the warm tone. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Awesome picture; great pose and seasonal effects. Well made! |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 23 | While I love your baby's outfit; it is a bit difficult to tell that this is meant to be an autumn photo--the trees in the background give a hint; but are easy to overlook. Shove our faces in it next time! |
Judge 3 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 20 | Beyond the toddler’s costume; the picture is not particularly fall-related. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 20 | They are enjoying their day in the yard; I just would have liked to have seen more seasonal effects than just one set of leaves in the corner. |
Judge 2 | 8 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 18 | This photo; while very cute; looks more like mid-summer than fall (kids are in short sleeves; foliage is all still bright green). Make sure your photo is focused on the subjects. This photo is more about the yard and the neighborhood. |
Judge 3 | 7 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 17 | If it weren’t for the fallen leaves on the far end of the picture; this could be almost any season. The toddlers are in the primary position of focus; but having to look elsewhere to see the hints of autumn or autumn-related activities detracts from the seasonal theme and the focus on them. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 8 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 22 | I bet those leaf piles are super fun. If taken closer I bet they could be seen better |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Each toddler is engaged in the scene in their own way; giving credence to the authenticity of the scene. |
Judge 3 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Fabulous setup. Love the spontaneity and candidness displayed in this shot. :D |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 8.5 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 20.5 | Scary and cute. Unfortunately the wolf and the scarecrow take almost all of the attention away from the toddler; who should be the main focus. |
Judge 2 | 8 | 5 | 4 | 2 | 19 | This is a great shot--of the wolf and scarecrow. The toddler seems to be more incidental to this photo. Make sure to watch your background items-there is a bright green tree in the photo; so it doesn't entirely look like fall. |
Judge 3 | 7 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 19 | Very unique take that definitely sets a strong Halloween mood. Unfortunately the well-meaning (?) guide out of the corn maze and the scarecrows detract from the focus on the lost toddler. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 8.5 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 22.5 | Great use of seasonal effects. Maybe all that action is why it has to be taken a bit too far away and it is hard to see their faces. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Very imaginative! There is definitely a story here. |
Judge 3 | 9 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 22 | This is a very creative and nicely set-up photo; but as your toddlers are looking at and interacting with each other; this is more of a "cute scene" photo; as opposed to a "cute toddler." It might be a good idea to make sure that at least one toddler in the foreground of the photo is actually looking at the camera. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 21 | I hope she isn't afraid of big spiders. The decoration takes a bit too much attention away from the toddler. |
Judge 2 | 8 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 19 | A lot of effort went into the design and setup of this photo; and it shows! That being said it does feel as though the focus is split between the spider and the toddler. The spider also looks as though it was edited into the image; and it doesn't entirely fit (but if it was not and that's how it appears in-game; let us know so that your score can be adjusted accordingly). |
Judge 3 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 18 | Good use of framing. The toddler needs a little more focus. She seems to have just stepped into the scene from behind the hay; and the large spider is somewhat distracting. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 20 | Very pretty smile. I would have liked to have seen more seasonal effects than just leaves. Plenty of space to decorate it to feel more like fall. |
Judge 2 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 18 | There are fallen leaves but there is not much more that fits in with the theme. The background elements and spacing do not add to the season or the framing of the subject. The Sim is in the foreground but does not really feel a part of the scene or season. |
Judge 3 | 8 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 21 | This is a pretty shot and the toddler's expression is really sweet. Make sure to pay attention to your details. The leaves beneath the trees aren't willow leaves and the little girl looks like she's dressed for summer; not fall. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Awesome picture. Well used decorations without stealing attention from the kids. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Very nice background; and adorable poses. Great focus on your subjects. Well done! |
Judge 3 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Very cute scene of discovery; wonder; and sibling bonding and instruction. |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 22 | She is sure ready to collect candy. Good use of seasonal decoration. Something other than a solid black background would have been nice. Also those teeth make her look a bit more scary than cute. |
Judge 2 | 9 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 24 | Very good use of color contrast with the purple/orange and depth of field. I assume the falling leaves are photoshopped in? The dark background and lighting really put the Sim and the pumpkins into a spotlight. |
Judge 3 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Doesn't get more traditionally "autumn" than a cute little witch at Halloween Nice touch with the falling leaves and intense lighting! |
Cuteness Factor | Photoshopping | Appropriately Seasonal | Baby/Toddler Focus of photo | Total | Comments | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Judge 1 | 9 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 22 | Very cute pose. All the decoration takes the focus away from her. Maybe take the picture a little closer to the toddler next time. |
Judge 2 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 25 | Great attention to detail with your staging and your subject. Lovely use of color to set the tone. Great job! |
Judge 3 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 18 | Having the Sim on her stomach reduces how much space she takes up and thus how much focus is on her compared to the other elements in the picture. |

@coolpengi10 your picture needs to be no smaller than 960 by 720 and sorry but brightening isn't allowed, only seasonal effects. For example, you may add fall leaves to your picture if you don't have in game or CC leaves.
@Charmful I am not sure if winter shots are allowed yet.

Hi all- apologies to the judges and hosts. I thought we had more time from when the contest was announced. Anyway, I know this is late, so please consider it an application for my next three, on time, entries. Please let this fall entry remain unscored. Thanks.

Thanks boss. It's my own fault for not paying more attention. I was so excited when I saw this contest, and I didn't make time for it right away like I should have - and then I got hung up on not having exactly the right CC so I downloaded a whole bunch of stuff that I didn't even use. Anyway, good luck, everyone! I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

@hannahsim201999 and @w_sims @Kestin @simmer22 @rosy-daylight your pictures are also oversized. Everyone please note that pictures cannot be over 800kbs. If you upload png's it's very likely to be well over 1000kbs, changing it to jpg should fix that issue. So please check your pictures, especially if you uploaded png's. Simply right-click your picture, select view image info and look at the size.

And I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling judges. Well, it loses a little bit of definition, but only if you're looking reeeeeally closely. Should I replace the picture in my original post or upload the .jpg version in a new post?

Lol nope. I was helping someone else here get the right size and decided to check through the thread. TskTsk. :P
Please if you can all edit your pictures. The reason for the 800kbs size limit is to do with how the site runs and in turn will affect how fast this thread and the pictures load up.
Thank you hannahsim201999

If the picture is uploaded via picture host (not at MTS) does that count? The one actually shown in my post is via host.
I had some troubles getting the picture I uploaded under 800kb without losing detail or size, I think it was 818 kb or some such, so it's pretty close..
EDIT: Got it down below 800 by sizing down just a bit.

Hi! With computer breakdowns and storms, I really admire you keeping this contest going! I saw @coolpengi10 was added to the contest, so I guess I am too? As I posted on page 3 a few hours before her? I suppose everything's OK with the picture sizewise, or just tell me and I'll fix it! I resized it on Paint, so it lost really a lot in definition... Promise the next seasons will be up in time *crossing fingers*

@Freya5 Most times if you use a screenshot program then change it to a jpg you should not need to resize or mess around with it. I would not use paint. I use fastStone to change all my BMP shots to jpgs. Does them in one big batch over a matter of seconds. Yours is only 258kb. It might have been overlooked with everything going on.
