Will there ever come a day when people and businesses stop using ( or trying to to use) FOMO as a way to get agreement or what they want?

For the past couple of weeks, almost daily I get snail mail junk mail that loves to tell me about how company ( fill in the blank) did work in my neighborhood and said company wants to make me 'a deal.' Change the wording slightly and the credit card companies are also up to their usual nonsense.

I'm not one of those creepy people that keeps close tabs on my neighbors, but my neighborhood does have a ebb and flow to it like any other neighborhood. Landscapers show up at certain houses on certain days, trash day is different for everybody, ect... That being said, I would notice if one of my neighbors was having new windows put in or a new roof put on. None of that is stuff is happening right now in my neighborhood. People are busy gardening, working on things, hiding from society and in the case of my PITA neighbor next door, riding his dirt bike at 10 PM because he thinks he's special.

Of course the FOMO doesn't end there. A company called Thrive Market has been sponsoring a lot of YT content I've been watching lately. If people want what they sell without the membership fees, VitaCost sells the same stuff. I digress. These YouTubers have been thumping their artificial green-ness lately about how people should sign up so they can buy cleaners that don't really clean anything or trigger allergies in the case of Ms.Myers.

While these talking heads are acting like advertisements in preaching about saving the planet, if you look at their channels, you'll see the truth. These people spend lots of time and money, shopping. None of it is for 'green things' it's just crap that about 6 months later they complain about. The complaints go something like this " My house is a mess! I don't understand why / its the kids fault." And my personal favorite lately is people that are house hunting. They'll talk all day long about how green people should be, but will send endless praise to the heavens for the 6,000 square foot house they are wanting to buy. Apparently these large homes that are crammed in with a whole bunch of other cookie cutter houses that look just like it heat / cool and maintain themselves. I haven't seen any solar panels on these homes, so I guess gnomes supply things like electricity and natural gas in order to cook.

All of it is so stupid! People should practice what they preach or STFU. Also stop wasting my time with stupid things in the mail. My paper shredder has been getting a real workout lately.

Still feeling like not wanting to get up.
Still sleeping until noon.
Still drinking seltzer as part of a way to flush out anything and finally arrive for my appointment at the end of next month ready to handle being operated on.

Still...not playing with my Sims.

Dumb thing for the day.

I've been waiting for Lowe's to get more forsythia so we can plant them in The Pit. Because they've been sold out, they have a "Notify Me" button on their site so customers will be notified when they get more in. Long story short, I would have been waiting until next year before they actually let me know as the only time Lowe's sells forsythia is when it is flowering. This isn't just for forsythia, it is for any plant that flowers.

I'd like to know what corporate goon thought this was a good idea. I'm going to order plants from somewhere else, then contact Lowe's corporate office to let them know on how much money they lost out on because they insist on being buffoons. They're so stupid, they won't even let me order plants. Unfrickin' believable...

It's hot; I don't feel like doing anything.

For the past few days, I've had a feathery friend come visit me when I sit outside later in the afternoon. It is a fledgling gray catbird that has decided that I make for a good source of protection for when things like Amazon delivery vans back up and makes their awful noise. He / she bounces up onto my lap, makes his / her way to my shoulder and ends up perching on top of my head before moving on to the railing for the front steps. The first time it happened I figured it was a fluke, but it happened twice yesterday. Once was just because I was sitting there, the other was because of a Amazon delivery van.

Said fledgling can fly although not long distances and is learning how to perch on branches. The lower branches of a Weeping Cherry tree isn't exactly the most stable place to land, but effort is made. We don't feed the birds anymore, so this little baby spends his or her time staying the in shade of the Weeping Cherry tree when it's hot looking for spiders and whatever else is hiding in the grass. When I water the gardens in the afternoon, it turns into shower / cool off time. I do leave water out for drinking, but apparently it is more fun coming from the hose.

I'm always being told that things happen for a reason. I can't come up with any for why this little bundle of feathers has decided that I'm worthy of hanging out with, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. It won't be long before he / she has full flight and no longer wants anything to do with me.

Now she's fine.

Weird-ass animal...she bothers me when I am on my phone and sits on my arm.

Today and tomorrow is Prime Day. I have a $10.00 credit because I bought something from a small business, but there is nothing worth spending money on. I don't care about TV's and all the other crap that is supposedly a 'deal'. It doesn't help that 2 day shipping has in many cases turned into almost a week before stuff is shipped.

What I'll end up probably doing is buying a box of hay for chins and rabbit. Instead of the 20 pound box that I usually buy, I'll go big and get the 25 pound box. They don't need it right away so it won't be a issue that it won't be here in 2 days.

The adventures with Amazon continues because they're always so much fun. NOPE!

Almost 2 weeks ago I ordered a plant called ‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum. It was going to my test plant to replace forsythia if I wasn't able to find any. We already know how that situation went, so I won't bother to go there except to say companies are really frickin' stupid. Dingus stopped by a mom and pop nursery to see if they had any forsythia. The response he got was "Why do you want that for? They're not flowering." Is there a anti-foliage campaign going on that I'm not aware of? If I wanted to fill The Pit with flowers, I would have started that process awhile ago. If there are flowers that hawks find repulsive, I'll order some, but I don't think there is such a thing.

Back to Amazon...

I tried to cancel this order less than 24 hours later as my gut was telling me there was going to be a problem. Amazon declined my request to cancel, so I figured I would give it a few days to see what would happen. The plant was supposed to be delivered yesterday; it was being shipped via UPS. When I checked UPS's website, it said that I needed to check back today regarding a delivery date. I checked again today and of course, the plant isn't on a truck or plane to be delivered. They've created a label for the box and that's that.

I called Amazon this afternoon; explained the situation. I was told there are no refunds for these kinds of items, but I had a message on my account stating that if the plant didn't arrive between tomorrow and the 25th, I could get a refund. Since the plant hasn't even left the nursery yet, at least according to UPS, the plant is not going to get here by the 25th. Upon further discussion, I wouldn't even have had to wait until the 25th, I would have been given a refund tomorrow if I called.

In the end, I did get a refund. The person I spoke with is a plant lover and understood why I was annoyed. My annoyance wasn't with him, it was with all the other nonsense. My gut was right and now I wait for the refund to show up. I had to call Amazon 2 weeks ago to get my refund for the guinea pig food that I never got. If I didn't call them, I wouldn't have gotten it.

I'm still waiting for my forsythia order with Proven Winners. They say they have a turn around time of about a week, so those should be shipped this week. Depending on the shape those show up in will either lead to me ordering more or not ordering from them again because the plants showed up half dead, completely dead or for some other reason.

I'm dreading winter this year as I've gotten used to being outside doing stuff. To fill my time this winter rather than pacing around the house because of snow and cold weather, I'm going to be making many lists of plants and things I'm going to need next spring so I don't have a repeat performance of this year. If I end up with pots of plants sitting my house because the ground isn't thawed, I have grow lights and can get more of those if I need them.

In pain.

I was dissatisfied with the brick border I made along the edge of my vegetable patch, so today I determined to straighten it, armed with a trowel, a spirit level and a rubber mallet for tapping the bricks into place. I was getting along fine and then I got careless. I hope the neighbors were not too shocked by the string of blasphemous oaths that ensued, or the sight of me performing a kind of macabre rain dance in the onion bed (they weren't too badly trampled, thankfully). The tips of the middle two fingers on my left hand are still throbbing, and have turned an interesting shade of purple. I am, as you might expect, typing this one handed.

The plant I posted about yesterday showed up. Turns out it wasn't shipped by UPS even though Amazon sent me a link to UPS, it was shipped FedEx. I asked the person I spoke with yesterday to confirm the tracking number I had, he said it was correct. The tracking number for UPS and FedEx are not even close, whatever. Meanwhile, Amazon screwed up my order for Gold Bond powder; that order was canceled. They hadn't shipped it yet, so I don't have to call them about a refund.

There are two more orders that Amazon can fuck up. One is a pack of sharpie markers; the other is a 25 pound box of hay. We'll see if they actually get delivered or nah. I'm not holding my breath at this point. They've managed to screw up 5 different orders in some shape or form over about a month. Maybe if I set my standards low enough, they'll figure it out. Probably not... I went on to Target's website and ordered the powder from there. I don't like Target either but maybe they'll have their act together.

We have a baby bunny living in the backyard. I know this because he / she came flying out from the ferns near the hose as they were getting their afternoon blast of water. I always water the ferns first, so bunny got a unintended bath. Once I figured out what was happening, I immediately stopped soaking the ferns and moved on to everything else that gets watered. I can't prove anything, but considering the bunny's size, I'm guessing it is a sibling to the two that were lost in the front yard.

My Proven Winners order should be in tomorrow. Those people know the difference between UPS and FedEx; but considering how this week is going, anything can happen.

I woke up planning on playing around with the new sprinklers that I finally remembered to buy. Mother Nature decided to take of that for me, so I guess I'll play around with the sprinklers this afternoon instead.

It is supposed to get hot and gross for a few days next week. As much as I want to start getting plants in for in front of the wall ( they will eventually drape over the wall into The Pit ) I'm going to wait. Plants don't like being in non-air conditioned cargo areas of planes and in boxes when it is 90-something degrees.

Easy fix to the "no internetz without very short cable" issue - USB plug with internetz. Now mom can haz internetz (and when the sun shines, the super-old laptop doesn't have to be in the one super-heated spot in the room that the very short cable reaches). Also, no need for a 10 meter long cable being a stumble risk lying around the house (goodness only knows we don't need another one these days - cable free solutions FTW )...

Meh!

In order to get a jump start on all the work that is waiting for us on July 2 ( the dumpster will be delivered to get rid of brush, tree limbs, ect... July 2) Dingus and The Boy leaned in this afternoon to get the clean up process started. In just a single afternoon, we now have a a literal pile of dead trees sitting in the side yard cut up in pieces. We didn't kill the trees, they were strangled to death by bittersweet. For anybody that has been following my yard clean up situation, you know how I feel about bittersweet.

Then there is the tree, shrub or whatever it is that we discovered the other day. We'll be getting a ID on that plant in the next few days, but like bittersweet, it has done some serious damage and is everywhere behind the fence. I have no idea where it came from as we never planted anything like it. After dealing with the English Ivy and Lily of the Valley ordeal, I really did not want to deal with yet another invasive plant species. We take full blame for those two problems and have corrected it. My eye twitches when I see any plant for sale that ends in "Ivy".

I'm not into clear cutting a area just because there is a problem so that won't be happening. Once all the bulk of the mess is cleared out, then it will be spending the rest of the summer looking for more bittersweet and the mystery plant so it can either be pulled up and or sprayed. Not my idea of a good time, but if we do nothing, that means both continue to spread and we lose more trees and other native plants. Things will be better in the end, but it is going to be a royal PITA for a problem that we didn't create or cause.

Lately, we have warm weather in Asshole. The cat's enjoying it, soaking sun and warmth. Part of me believes cats were the solar powered deities that the Egyptians made clear not to harm.

Cat slept by my head the majority of the night last night.

We are taking in the fruits and veggies of the first summer harvest: Strawberries and South Jersey corn.

Mostly chilled out, went shopping online, watched puppies and kittens grow up, (I was a foster parent for feral kittens. My job was to domesticate them through human touch. They found their forever homes, permanently, 100%.) ate pasta, made fizzy lemonade with pink lemonade Kool-Aid and plain seltzer, treated myself to an apricot essence facial mask before fully winding down.

Rain or shine ( it is going to be raining / drizzling all day) I'm planting trees today. And since the dumpster will be delivered at some point, I'll also be planting the Black Lace plant in a planter. I need to put in a order for some mulch and soil.

Ever since I put the scare tape in the front yard, I've seen some weird stuff. Yesterday was one of those days. I watched the following from my office window. I typically don't pay attention to such things unless there is a reason to do so.

There was a pick up truck that literally stopped in front of the house so at least the passenger could point and I'm guessing have a discussion with the driver about the ribbon-like stuff blowing around in the breeze. Or maybe they thought the owl decoy was real, I don't know but whatever it was, it creeped me out. I understand that shiny scare tape and owl decoys are not a common things for people to have in their front yards, but I don't think people will need to booger up traffic because of it either. I've had 2 contractors here for completely different reasons and neither of them bothered to ask or care what was going on in the front yard and why.

I suspect this won't be the last time a person with a rubber neck stops because "Oooo... something shiny", but seriously. Move along people, nothing to see here. It's just shiny tape and a fake owl. If this blocking traffic trend continues, we may allow the newly planted forsythia grow taller than I originally planned.

I just really hate the fact that I really don't want to do the things I have to do, like cleaning the litterboxes. I am on medications, but still, keeping a whole house clean by myself is just overwhelming!

If I ever do get married (which at this point is unlikely given the Audacity(TM) of men), the other person WILL have to help out with chores - no if, ands or buts!

Received my temporary tattoo marker kit, complet-ish series of The Office and Arrested Development (the latter has 2 seasons not yet released, the alternate Season 4 and Season 5, both still on Netflix) on DVD, 15 disc cases, (holds 96 discs) and an American flag themed jacket just in time for Independence Day.

So far, 2 of the cases are loaded with what I organized so far by color of the case, which in turn holds a genre or studio or a subject if it was a pop culture phenomenon.

Oh yeah, and the yahoos of the valley are setting off fireworks. I have a personal reason to be dealing with the noise along with the veterans and pets. Our cat is staying in during the day of.

We've been outside for almost 3 hours. The rain and drizzle was getting to be a bit much, so it's break time ( at least for outdoor stuff) until this afternoon. We got a lot done; the leaf pile is no longer a pile. What is left is the same amount of leaves where we haven't been dumping stuff.

Once we were done with leaves, it was on to taking down small trees that we don't need the chainsaw for. There was a bunch of dead pine tree saplings that needed to come down, we found some weird vine ( it wasn't bittersweet) that was like 15 feet long that needed to be pulled up and a sucker branch of a maple that needed to go away. We're keeping any healthy maples we come across, but sucker branches act like vampires to the mother plant and never survive if we have a winter with lots of snow. The weight of the snow breaks the sucker branches off which hurts the main part of the tree.

I haven't eaten any thing yet today and with all of this dirty work, there is no shortage of laundry to do. I suppose I need to get off my butt and get to those things...

EDIT: And we're done for the day. The sky opened up about a half hour ago. All it is going to do is downpour and thunder well past sunset. Crappy weather or not, things continually look better and better even if we are only chipping away at it for a few hours at a time.

We've been outside all morning. We're calling it quits for the day as there are thunderstorms rolling in.

I don't have much room left in the dumpster and there is still a crap load of stuff that needs to be added to it. I'm not paying for a third one, shelling out cash for 2 is enough. Instead I'll have the tree company come out a second time and get it done that way. It is a lot cheaper and will give us time to actually finish what we want / need to do.

I need to eat something and take some Advil; my elbows are sore.

It is July 5th and my heat just shut off. It has been getting down into the 50's at night for the past few days. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 80's.

Today is the last day for cool weather for awhile, the rain needs to stay away as we need to get as much done as possible. I don't feel like messing with dead trees and foolishness when it's hot and swampy. I'll do it because I have to, but would prefer not to.

Yesterday in between bouts of rain I went back outside in the afternoon as I didn't feel like sitting in the house. Aside from listening to my neighbors fight, there were 6 crows that decided to make their presence known. They don't like the scare tape, so they've been hanging around the perimeter of the yard as means of avoiding it. Anyway, somebody tossed a bagel or something out of their car window, so I spent part of my time watching these 6 crows circling said bagel or whatever it was. They'd grab a piece, then get into the pine trees across the street. Once the thing was gone, they disappeared and took all of their noise with them, goofy birds.

After the crows left, all the other birds decided they wanted to put their two cents in. Gray catbirds, robins, cardinals, nuthatches, ect... It was almost like a Walt Disney movie with all the bird chatter that was going on. LOL

Where is that nice cool weather we were having? This swampy stuff sucks!

Among other things that suck, "Tide Hygienic Clean" is on the list. I fell for the marketing, it doesn't work. It leaves all the same foul crap behind like any other liquid laundry detergent.

It isn't my washer, I clean that out. It isn't how I do laundry, because I don't pack the machine. Doing so means nothing gets clean; clothes need room to move.

Last night I was picking up the kitchen before calling it a day. When I clean the kitchen, I always drag out a clean kitchen towel. They get used all day long and since it has been swampy, they don't dry out as quickly as they should. Anywho, I grabbed what I thought was a clean towel, but it smelled funny. I grabbed another, the same thing. Then I pulled out the basket I keep the kitchen towels in. All of them except for one didn't smell funky.

I brought all of the smelly towels downstairs, threw them in the bucket I use to soak things in, then filled it with hot water plus what I need for laundry stripping. As the bucket was filling, I could see the water starting to change color; none of which was fabric dye. Since I was going to be washing stinky things anyway, I grabbed a blanket that didn't stink like the towels, but needed to be washed. It would have been a waste of water just to do a load of kitchen hand towels. I don't have enough of them to make a full load of laundry.

I spent every half hour for 3 hours stirring and 'agitating' filthy kitchen towels. I'm happy to say, now they're clean. Got all the dirt, filth, bacteria which is what makes things smell bad to begin with out and now the towels don't stink. However, this means I've got lots of laundry stripping to do. That project will be kicked off by stripping regular bath towels, hand towels we use in the bathroom, face cloths and cleaning rags since they're white. Why start with those? Because I had some some in the dryer from the day before. They are slightly ( I'm using that word loosely) cleaner than before I put them in to be washed.

For a product that has the word hygienic in it, one would think it could handle towels that are used to dry hands all day and some residual yard dirt. Nope! Don't waste your time and or money on said foolishness.

I've been sitting around for the past hour or so enjoying the breeze and the lack of noise from air conditioners. We should be able to finish the side yard today. There are a few more dead trees that need to come down, and I need to check the vine and ivy situation. The English Ivy jumped the fence which I knew about, but there are strands trying to snake their way through the brush along with the other vine that we don't know what it is. The vines are really thick like those of Wisteria, but I don't know if that is what I'm looking at or not. Either way, said vines are tree killers. We've pulled I think 3-4 oaks that had those vines wrapped around them. Since the dumpster is gone and I'm not willing to rent another one, any vines and or ivy that is pulled up will be put in the dog kennel where it can stay until it completely dries out.

Also on the agenda today is mowing the lawn. The rabbits have been making salad out of all the new grass, but it still needs to be mowed. Of course there is laundry to strip and I need to spend some time with a bucket of hot water with a teaspoon of Tide powder and wipe down things like door trim, the backs of the kitchen chairs, the door that goes downstairs, ect... People in this house have yet to figure out that when their hands are covered in grunge from being outside, the first stop should be at the kitchen sink.

EDIT: I finally got a pic of the leaves of the vines that are killing the trees near the street. I used plant.id to figure out what it was. They're saying that it is likely to be Chinese bittersweet or possibly American bittersweet. It is the same shit we've been dealing with in the back yard. The only difference is the stuff in the backyard hasn't been allowed to establish itself over however many years. We spot a vine, it either gets pulled up or sprayed.
