I would literally put 1,000 files in my Downloads folder just to have those walls.

After gathering the courage... I had decided to install the walls. A rather bad choice for someone who has no modding expirence. They left me in tears ... Tears of JOY!!!!!!!!!

That user didn't use this mod, though: therefore I think that - if really there is a limit in the allowed wall sections - it is not related to this mod.

So, the question is: is there a limit? And if so, is it related to the capabilities of the PC/Video card? I really don't know. Any report about this subject is welcome.

It's true, there is a wall limit, I think it's somewhere around 2500 sections, but I'm not sure. But, each of these custom walls has their own induvidual limit, which means if you run out of normal wall, you can use the "unleveled" wall, as it is visible, and has the same limit as the normal one. In other words, it doubles your wall capacity. So I guess all walls have a set limit in the game, whether they're custom or not.

After a little expirimenting, I found that the gap for almost all of the Maxis and custom windows is not deformed and in the right place. Almost is the kew word. YOUR seamless wall window and door set creates a gap that spreads all the way up the wall. And no glass fills the gap. So there is an open void.

Just thougt you'd ought to know!

Megas, I know about the Wallwindows: that happens because the WW are the only windows that have a wallmask (the "hole") that goes all the way up, to the very end top of the wall. Other windows leave at least a small section of wall over the hole, and therefor no "huge gap" is created.

SimMaster - Here is very detailed report I recieved by email from a user:

TEST 1
Ground level installation
2100 total wall segments built on both one & five high levels; walls deletable & rebuildable
When adding a dormer unit, walls deletable but not rebuildable
Demolition of dormer allows wall inventory to be rebuildable again
TEST 2
56x56-tile perimeter foundation installation
1700 total wall segments built on one level; walls rebuildable
When modifying the foundation, walls deletable but not rebuildable
TEST 3
56x56-tile solid foundation installation
1896 total wall segments built on both one & five high levels; walls deletable & rebuildable
When modifying the foundation, walls deletable but not rebuildable

I tried to take a methodical, scientific approach to this experiment, creating each lot twice and receiving the same results.

Oh, so it was 2100 segments, not 2500. Well, I knew I was close! I guess somewhere in the game files there's a set limit to the number of wall segments that can be put down. I wouldn't even begin to know where to look, but with your modding skills and knowledge of the game files maybe you can find the answer.

It can't be. You must have such a folder: you probably are looking in your documents folder, while you should look in the game installation folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\EA Games\etc...)

It's a text file, yes, you just need to extract it from the zip and put it in the folder pointed out in the "How to install" section (see first post). The peculiarity (and the risk) is that the text file will overwrite the original one by Maxis, therefore you are strongly adviced to create a backup copy of the original before overwriting it.

Hi, I had to reinstall the game and I noticed the walls were missing, but thats not quite my issue... I'm having trouble with the game crashing any time I click on an elevator to move, place, or delete, and I read somewhere that this wall might be related to it, so I downloaded the lite version and when I went to place it, i saw that I don't have a TS2 Data folder. Am I missing something?

There's an issue with my game every time I overwrite the original "walls.txt" with this new one... I MUST download it in order to use en7en's "Japanese Tea House" ...

1) The game's load times freeze every time I load into a lot; however it usually allows me in after I restart...

2) Also, When I move sims into the lot, time is frozen; as if it were paused... This happens on ALL lots; not just the Tea House's...

I've removed ALL my downloads, collections, EVERY player created ANYTHING that could've interfered and caused something like this... So I know without a doubt that this is, in fact, the culprit. Is there anything I can do to fix the walls file so it won't happen? I REALLY want to use that tea house...

By the way, I only have The original Sims 2, and The Sims 2: University.

Help?

I'd like to suggest a new wall to be added please - I have already been using it in my game, but I think lots of people will find it useful.

It's a normal wall but with mayCutAway false. I am now using this for many of my internal house walls, between rooms, so in cutaway mode you can still see in from outside, but you don't lose as much of the feel of the internal decor and atmosphere.

As a separate issue, I am trying to find a type of wall that you can use to divide an attic up into rooms without sticking through the roof, but I haven't been successful yet. I tried using the settings for Attic walls, but for some reason they only agree to build sort of buttresses one tile long.

Seppuku, Torturer, sorry for the delay, but the reason is that I don't know why this happens in your games; all the walls work fine in mine.

If anyone is still interested in the problem of the elevators not movable when already in place, yes, there is such a bug. If you don't like an elevator any more, you can hard-delete it using the testing cheats (activate the testing cheats, shift-click on the elevator and choose "Delete").

Inge - I haven't fiddled with the custom walls for long, so far; but I remembember that I tried (unsuccessfully) to find a solution for the attic walls. Eventually, I gave up, mostly because the attic parts lower than 3 tiles are not liveable anyway.

As for the not-cutting-away, I can add it to the wall list.

I am going to try and attach a screenshot to show you what fun I had with the attic walls.

In fact they *do* work for dividing the loft - they cast shadows to prove they are following the shape of the roof. But the game is not rendering them other than these wedge-shaped cutaways.

Funny! But I guess that OFB has changed something in the attic walls, they didn't work that way before...

I love the "no cut-away" idea! I usually build small bathrooms and I use the open shower separated by one wall piece in a corner, and the wall always goes down in that area, it drives me crazy! I also hate it when you always see the garage from inside a house.
Thank you Numenor!

Oh, and just a question: I suppose that if I don't want a wall I should delete the part of the text refering to that walls in my walls.txt file?

I'm testing the walls in my game, they're great but I can't find the "no cut-away" wall, or is it a separate download? I'm probably missing something, but what?

I just checked the file, and the cutaway wall doesn't appear to have made it into this release. That's using the manual version, not the installer, which I don't want to use at the moment.

Thanks Inge, I'm using the manual version too, I have a Mac. I guess I'll have to be patient for that one!
:D

I was wondering... for all those maxis walls that are not in catalog, would deleting the line "not in catalog" make them show up? And would it be worth it?

You need to add an icon reference I think - or maybe it would show up witha blank icon if you didn't, I am not sure. As to whether the other wall types are good to have for building, attic walls are useful *only* to replace end walls you accidentally deleted too long ago to use Undo on. I am currently playing with the stage walls, which happen to be just the right height to make those very low attic walls like you get in some houses near the eaves (for looks only, of course the sims can't get into the low bits)
