1) No idea, sorry.
2) Install the new OfB patch (released within the past week on the official site) or install Windkeeper's fix for that, available here.

Ok, so what do you need to do???? Add another 'Normal" driveway, after placing sideways driveway???? If so, I havn't actually tried this yet, but I would presume all you need to do is replace the original sidewalk tile on the other side of the road with the move objects cheat on. try this and if it doesnt work just reply back here and I'll do some testing!!
As for the trash can and letter box, dont worry too much, as you can place it on the lawn near the sidewalk wherever you want it. It will not go back where it originally is meant to. Just use the move objects cheat to do this, then dont forget to turn it off again.
By moving the rubbish bin and letter box to another position at the front of the lot, you can actually now build a half wall around it (with space for sims to acess of course), and decorate the area, much like multi units have.
Hope this helps!

It's because the lot tiles are hidden tiles while the similar ones seen in the build mode are actually different ones with different guids.
I'm unsure unleashing the hidden can help. But lots can at least sometimes become crash-prone. So,do save copies before try. Yet, it may befine for tile-recovery.

Just had a thought......do the normal driveway first....then if you need a sideways driveway, do this last!

You can always exit the lot move it someplace else and try it
