Default Sim Mortality - Killing Sims
Ok so I hear things are kind of different now with this.

Rumor - You can now have ghost babies!

Is this true? Is it still impossible to kill babies without a visit from the social worker who in these cases could walk through walls? Not that i would ever kill a baby. actually. Unless it were vital to my story........ I usually content myself with butchering my nanny, maid, gardner, butler, delivery person, paper person... etc etc etc.

Rumor - You can now play ghosts

Is this really true? Can I have a legacy with a spectral matriarch controlling the family, and indeed the world from beyond her grave? hehehehehe the possibilities with that are mouth watering

Ok and how can these damn things die now? Is it the same as before or are there new interesting and more evil ways to plan the demise of the Simulated life forms?

Are you sure of this? I've seen a video on YouTube where a guy/gal kept killing a Sim over and over again.. some *bug* or maybe a *feature* of the Loser trait... among the methods he/she used was drowning in the pool.. others were starvation and fire.

How do you figure that it won't work anymore?

Peace

I didn't think you could kill children, I just thought you could produce a ghost baby from a human and ghost and then it would be half ghost? But I haven't heard any mention of the social worker either so...yeah...maybe you can but I think you would have to actively kill any sim because they are smarter regarding their needs.

Yes you can play ghosts now, but you have to get the opportunity to make a ghost first. After one of your sims dies the science lab will call you with a "special offer" to use some resurrection machine, and then whom ever's ashes you brought to them will be a ghost, if I understand correctly.

Thanks Nyxie

That sounds niffty. I wonder if the lab will come up with a way to reverse the process..... and get rid of the damn things.

I so think they need a new type of service sim, one to keep back these ghostly forces from families who have been racking up a decent death toll. I presume there are existing graveyards then?

Oh wow and a half ghost baby wonder how that would work....... when they introduce magic (notice I say WHEN not if) that could lead to interesting magical types I suppose.

There's a town graveyard, yeah. Though you may be able to just place a tombstone anywhere in town. I've heard you can put em in y our inventory; that's how you take em to the science lab for resurrection.

There's also a food that will bring a ghost back to life, I hear Apparently you need high-level gardening and cooking skills and some rare seeds to make it though.

Its probably still can be done, you just can't pull the ladder anymore (at least according to the PC Gamer review, I havent experimented too much yet to find out for sure).

Re: the pool. What I heard is that they don't need a ladder to get out anymore but that you can drown them by canceling their "exit pool" action. I don't have the game yet, so I can't confirm that.

Seems to me you ought to be able to put furniture all around the pool, and keep them from climbing out that way. Haven't been able to try that either though ANd probably wouldn't even if I could, I can't stand to kill sims. Tried once and was traumatized by the experience.

Well... I've done it a few times... but really... I had to go superspeed, and I had to mute.. the screams were very traumatizing.... lol

Buuuuut.... now that we have playable ghosties.. I'm sure I'll have to knock off one or two at least... :P

I've never seen a game yet where children could die (outside of cut scenes, or really specific escort missions) Even the major sandbox titles (Fable2, Fallout 3, etc) felt it beyond the pale. Children can be "moved to another venue" but actual juvenile death is probably a bigger taboo for EA than unsensored sex.

That been said I'm really interested to see if/how this 'ghost baby' thing works in the sims social setting. Will other sims react with horror as their minds try to process how the dead can reproduce (again I'm assuming no infanticide in game so ghosty kids would have to be produced the 'natural?' way)? I'd be interested in developing some Ringu / The Shining/The Grudge-esque scenarios with this concept. Yay creepy ghost kids!

You could kill children in sims 2 just not babies

They could die by fire, drowning, death by satelitte, sickness and death by flies.

Obviously I only did these things to learn about game content....

TheSandman21 find out! Please!!! I need to know! That's like a classic way to kill sims. That's like a sims tradition. "Want to get rid of a sim? Just stick them in a pool for hours without a ladder!" Please just do some quick tests to see if this is true. Stick a sim in the pool then take away the ladder then tell them to get out and see if they can.

Sorry, no, they can't die by fire. Haven't you ever read the description of the Gray Woman of SimCity Statue?

They still do. The Crumplebottom household being the main example.

You just have the option of actually turning them into a playable sim. If they have age or not, who knows.

I wonder if the ghosts eventually move on? or something. Maybe that becomes their goal with a nice little going into the light animation..... hmmmm

I still like the idea of a head of a legacy family controlling the family form beyond the grave..... scary.

As for killing Sims it was something i did get very bored of quickly. It took me a long time to find out that children could not be killed via starving etc. But it was a good way to learn about how ghosts and haunting worked. I did find that the drowned ghosts seemed to be more nasty in what they did, constantly turning TVS on in bedrooms and the like and waking up my poor sims.

Hopefully I will not need to butcher too many sims this time around as it looks like many of the same rules apply.
