No idea, but I've noticed toddlers have a tendency to roll the skill wants immediately after growing up, then they seem to get triggered again if the toddler fulfil a toddler skill want. I always lock at least one of them, or try to start them out as fast as I can (and make sure the parents who get the wants to teach the toddler also get locked wants and is the one who teaches the toddler that particular skill, so they can get some points as well).

If you wait too long and don't lock the wants, the wants tend to roll away, and don't always reappear.

Shouldn't do, although if they have been gaining skills from toys they are more likely to roll those wants due to the training mechanism. Filled wants are more likely to be rolled for any sim regardless of age. So my toddlers will often have gain 3/4 cooking skill simply because I have a toy that skills cooking. Occasionally a toddler won't roll potty training, I had one recently. Most times they do and I lock that as soon as I see it.

Thanks for the info, it's good to know for the future. The problem is I can't run hoodchecker as I'm a Mac user and that is a windows program. Not sure what other Mac users do. I'm OK with the memory loss and will just work around it. All seems to be fine as I've spent a lot of time in Riverblossom today and I've found no glitches nor had any other errors and I've started integrating them into the bigger hood via community lots. I love the terrain and even the Maxis houses aren't too bad with a bit of redecorating but that double winter had to go.

Really would like a mod (or series of mods) that allows NO school. Not home school, not running a school. But: no bus, no "bad grades", maybe not even WANTS for grades. For any age. IMO it's useless - except for the occasional kid they meet. They don't learn anything, they are just "gone" for most of the day, then come home unhappy and dirty (were you fighting at school? Then why haven't you gotten any body skills. Oh, you LOOSE fights; then why haven't you made enemies?)
So for my hoods that were before schools existed, or just isolated, or alien: kids do chores, and study what I think is appropriate.
Any ideas?

So why, almost every time I enter a lot, I can select a Sim (pets too) click on batbox/memories - and there will be "corrupt" ones; I delete them, but don't see what it's actually doing. Also, after playing I usually run Hood Checker.

I use Inge's Simlogical Flexi School for teens and kids who don't go to school. There's no school 'bus and grades don't change. You can get it here. Also download the School Changer that let's you change the kids to Flexi School.

Amongst the Sims in my game who "use" Simlogical Flexi School are Jack Gill and Ravi Bertino. Instead of going to school, they live downtown in an open relationship, grow money trees, and go to sleazy all-day nightclubs. Jack says, "We're students at the University of Life."

All Sims are beautiful -- even the ugly ones.

If you check your sims memory panel before and after you will find it has removed memories. I also had this with my Ubber hood. Luckily I am not overly attached to it unlike my long-running custom hood.

@gammapat -I have plans for keeping children and kids out of school like using a vacation Mod that puts them on permant school vacation and That's because it's only 1841 in Dodge and the town is just starting out and there's no school there and it's going to be years before they add one and the first generation of kids likely won't get any schooling except for learning to do chores and apprentcing to a trade.I've got pland to have children and kids just attend a trade school or just study whatever skills they need for their lifetime vocation or they take over the family farm.

How do you organize your CC folder? Are there any common practices I should be aware of? (TS4 you can't go more than 5 folders deep for CC or 1 folder deep for mods)

Here are some thoughts from Kiri about folder organization and what-not...

Personally...
I have all my BodyShop stuff in SavedSims - nothing there is subfoldered, but it's all renamed so FEBrow, FEShadow, FLip, AFhair- and TMhair- etc are all together in the folder. (I don't have a lot of BS)

I have my add-ons and completer sets (most of which are slaved to the maxis original) stashed back in my BINs folder

My DL folder has 4 main "sections" (not folders) I've named the folders to be in this order:
_a = denotes all the stuff that needs to be in each "game" (I have 4 different savedGames - LOL!) ...so these things are the scriptorium things like stairs, fences, fixed EAxis mods, face archetypes, Defaults, antiredundancy mods, and my building tools.
Then,
B-MaxisRecolors - one folder that is subfoldered into catalog sections (so I can find stuff easier)
C-FavoriteCreators - one folder with subfolders (includes the huge slaved sets like JonesiBedBlanket with it's recolors)
CollectifiedOnly - all the stuff that I've hidden so it only shows up in the collections subfoldered by collection
Then I have my CC section: (and it is sorted in catalog order)
D-Appliances
D-Electronics
D-Decorative
etc...
Then,
zHacks - one folder with subfolders by creator
ZZZTesting - where the new things go before they are properly sorted

Most of the time, I don't go deeper than 3 folders. Though there may be a couple of 4 or 5 folder deep instances (that I will rectify at some point. Maybe.) I have always been a bit OCD CDO about organizing my CC (since the beginning in TS1) .

@ Clashfan

Mac Using Player here. I just used the FFS Debugger to clear any corrupted memories and what ever and then didn't worry too much about it.

I make extensive use of subfolders, I sort by type like food, clothes, hair, careers, mods etc. Then except for clothes, within each type I subfolder by creator or site, for clothes I separate the creators more because I have a lot of clothes. So Downloads/Mods/MATY for example or Downloads/Mods/BO or Downloads/careers/MTS_madoracle_IT_Career. I don't subfolder very deep, so no more than three I am sure.

Well, I wouldn't call my folder the most organised ever...

For starters, I have my Default Skins, Eyes, Baby Bottles, and Baby Clothes, which just chill there in the downloads folder. They are properly labeled so I know what they are.

Then, I have the following folders:
Build Mode - Stuff for Build Mode, such as walls and floors mainly. Don't have much in here.
Buy Mode - Just a bunch of buy mode stuff, such as nursery things and the like. New bears, too. Don't have much in there.
Cosmetics, Hair, & Clothes - Where CC clothes, hair, make-up, and accessories go.
Custom Face Templates-Set 01(AlfredAskews Defaults 1-23+Willow) - Yes, that is the folder's name in my Downloads folder It's self explanatory what's in here.
Default Replacement Hair - Self explanatory. It has the hair I've default replaced in here.
Fixes & Improvements - Has mods that fix issues and/or remove minor annoyances.
GMO Eyebrows - A set of custom eyebrows.
Hacks - Random mods, I guess. Has anti-respawn mods, uni mods, and even mods just to keep the game interesting, such as ACR and Weekly Arsonist. This is where my main mods go, I guess.
Maxis Match Custom Brows - More custom brows.
Mods - Another mods folder... doesn't have much in it, but the FFS Lot Debugger is in here among a few other things.
Recolours - Self explanatory. Has bed recolours and others.

A lot of these have subfolders, too.

It's both organised while being at the same time, disorganised

When a game is predictable, it's boring.
That goes for any medium that isn't life.
That's why The Sims 2 is my favourite sims game.
It pays great attention to detail and can be unpredictable.
The Sims 4 is another story altogether...

Almost all buy and build cc: in folders named after the creator, eg. HugeLunatic, and subfolders inside : Buy; build, etc. (This makes it easy for me to see if I have downloaded something already if it shows up on a lot I want to download).
Clothing the same - Amaryll, CatofEvilGenius, Fanseelamb, etc. Inside: when I use a lot, I divide them into casual, formal or adult, elder, teen, or both.
(I make two folders for creators who make both build/buy and bodyshop stuff, eg. Trapping clothes, Trapping build
Exceptions are mods that need a z in front of the name; some cc downloaded with lots go into their own folder and the almost 10 things I have made myself.
Hair all goes into the same folder, though, under the name of the creator.

I spread mine out. But it is not that well organized. Having just a few top folders which open into deep sub folders may look tidy but really like one of those cupboards that keep the mess back until you open it.

Some have names similar to the game areas such as Buy, kids, party.
Categories I wish the game had such as hospital, School, Farm. (I have a huge amount of specialised CC)
Most times I do not sort by creator because I would not remember what they made. Sun&Moon is an exception there, they have their own top folder.

Quote:

Try not to go more than 3 deep. If file names are long the game can stop reading them and it takes longer to load. Looks at a creator who shan't be named for that.
Remove special characters like [ & * also takes longer.
_ is okay to use I believe, or it better be I use it extensively. <_<
Make sure your naming and file system makes sense to you, that you can remember where to find things. If it looks beautiful but you can't find a darn thing then its useless.
Keep regular backups.
Keep mods separated
keep defaults separated
DO NOT remove NPC's from mods unless moving to the character folder, they are sims.

I keep the CC zip/rar files outside of the Downloads folder (and the game), that way I can organize them by creator there and use a different organization within my Downloads folder.
I do this because for me when it comes time to find something, it's generally easier to look it up by category than creator. So I have folders pretty much aligned with the categories that Clean Installer uses such as Eye Color, Floors, GameObjects, Hair, Makeup, etc. Some of those have other subfolders such as Makeup which has another level of subfolders for Beards, Blush, Costume Makeup, Eyebrow, Eyeliner, etc.

Since I use a lot of different bodyshapes, I also have a separate folder for each of those under Downloads, e.g. Athletic Girl, BodyBuilder, BodyBuilderGirl, BodyBuilderHuge, BodyBuilderLean, etc. With some Warlokk shapes I have a third level of subfolder -- Warlokk/Teens and then subfolders for Small/Med/Large/XLarge.

I have a few odds & ends folders under Downloads as well. Collections, Defaults, Mods, and most importantly, NEW STUFF, where new downloads are staged to ensure they don't break anything before they are moved to their correct folder. I have around 40 subfolders directly under Downloads and some of those (like Makeup) have one level of subfolder beneath them.

Common practice, or at least wise practice, is to keep folder and subfolder names short as there is a limit on the length a pathname can be. Another is to avoid using special characters as those supposedly can make your game load slower.

Last time I ran Clean Installer on my Downloads folder, it processed close to 60,000 files so keeping a good system in place is quite important for me.

If I just look at the number of character files in my neighbourhood, is that a reliable way to see if something is borked and my game is generating new characters for no reason?

I did have something go wrong and a number of new social group sims were created. Every time a new one walks by, I freak out and worry the problem is not solved.
