You can make a bathroom in a 2x3 room with the toilet next to the bathtub. You just need to place the toilet on the opposite wall that you place the faucet on the tub. Of course space will be tight, but my Sims seem to manage to get around in there pretty well if there are only two or less Sims in there. Here are some snaps.

Wow.. Angel f, love your measuring figures..

When I saw this thread the first time I didn't read it, but I remembered my old hobby I had when I was about 10, studying house catalogs and drawing house plans =) So I imediately found trivselhus.se (a swedish house selling business) and printed some drawings and built them.. (thanks to you alls guys =)

I found that they look good, but at the same time it's the same thing as when I build my own house or friends or neighbours houses - they tend to get very very big. I don't like the bigger lots, maybe it's just me.. But the thing is that sims don't need as big houses as we do in real life as they don't need to wash laundry or collect as much rubbish stuff as we humans do. So I've figured that their doors and windows are smaller than ours so that their smaller houses can look normal/good on the outside even though they are smaller on the inside.. Anyone else ever thought of this?

Haven't been able to upload my nice creations, think I accidentally packed a lot of hacks in the sim2pack-files so they got really big, but I'll try later =)

I think it made things a lot easier for me cuz I used furnitured plans; that (plus that I nowdays view the whole _world_ in squares) allowed me to draw the houses on grid paper (all hail the mighty grid paper *bowing down*) using the furniture size to do come up with the sizes of the rooms, it was easy.. If one square would be one meter the measures I get when using the furniture as base would give me _very_ typical swedish room measurements.

Master bedroom; 4x5 meters/squares, kids bedroom/working room; 3x4 meters, normal bathroom; 3x3 squares/meters, small bathroom 2x3 or 2x2 meters (latter very small). Kitchen and livingroom differ a lot, but normal is a bit bigger than a master bedroom.. Bear in mind that I used to study real swedish floorplans as a kid so I know my meters and room measures ;P

One thing that would give strenght to my hypothesis about that the windows and doors are smaller than in normal life is that when I made my houses the windows were almost alwas between and and two squares/meters.. Or maybe that's just swedish windows that differ from american windows...

boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOf Rotation, boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false and moveobjects on are great cheats for us who build according to plans since normally built houses look better if they are decorated normally; and in the real world there are even more than 8 different directions you can have your furniture facing.. ;P

Hehe, just some of my thoughts and experiences.. Love you all, again =) *hugs*

danacnbrett,

It's because the entry to the bath tub is at that particular position/grid-side/location of a bathtub... The left front side of the bathtub tap when the bathtub tap is placed on the left on the screen. So, rotating the thing and estimating where the entry position can definitely help find out how a small bathroom should be built.

As for scale, check out the posts...

I just do the approximate estimation for the scale when doing floor plans. Flexibility to readjust will ease everything.

OUCH, thats one hell of a house, i wish you luck, espeacially with those rear stairs, although they are possible they can get very very anoying, but have fun and i'd like to see it when you finish it.

I usually measure rooms by objects, so an armchair in the game is one block then i work out how many of those armchair blocks i could fit into the room im building, works out most of the time.

I have to say that with just a little tweeking of where your objects are a 2 by 3 bathroom is entirely plausibible useable and realistic whether you want a bath or shower you simply place the door half way along the 3 square side then leave the two squares infront of it empty then place the bath/shower on one side and the toilet and baisin on the other and depending on window placement you may even be able to hang mirrors aand paintingsin the room to.

If by any chance you wish to use any recolour I have produced in something you are going to upload do feel free.

lilmisslacey, that one does look familiar, but I'm not sure if it's just that I've seen the plan before, or someone has made a house similar. I could almost swear someone did to the house, but for goodness sakes, who knows how we can find out - that would be hard to try to do a search on, unless it fell under "floorplans" in the search pane. Anyway, keep us updated and let us know how yours turns out too.

... major dramas constructing that house.. getting the basement in was the easy part.. but the garage sits above it, so it was sitting on a foundation rather than flat on the ground.. tried millions of ways to put a sloped driveway type thing... in the end i just gave up and moved on.

Might try a smaller house as a starter next time..

i ran into a house like that, after 2 days of looking for an answer and testing things out, i gave up, i think maxis should invest alot of time in nightlife's building section, trying to resolve some of these annoying snags.

a sloping driveway is easy.... until you try and attach it to a foundation.

The funny thing is...

Where is the game made?
How many houses in this country have basements?

Logical step would be to include a basement building option.. without the need for boolprop, there fore knocking out the use of foundation over said basement.. and no drama with the drive way.
