One building on two lots??
Hello everyone, i'm new to this web sight as of like a week or so ago. i've searched everywhere and can't find a tutorial on building two lots next to each other with one common building on them. i've seen and even downloaded buildings and other stuff that are built like this so i know its possible somehow, i just don't know the cheat that allows you to do this. can anyone help me out? someone out there has to know how to do this. please give me some pointers so i and others can start building this way. i know others are interested cuz i've read short posts where people asked about this with little or no answer. thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Qcksilver, I have been doing some searching on this topic, and have not found a way to do what you (and I) want. All I've found are ways of making an illusion of a building on two or more blocks.
I'll keep looking.
In the mean time, here is my own illusion of a 14 by 5 lot... it's really two 5 by 5 lots and a 4 by 5 lot, with the swimable river made in three sections that line up on the edges. Oh, and there is a horse enclosure and the house has underground parking, made just for fun. I do not intend to upload these three lots, as there is a great deal of other peoples work involved (too many to list) including at least ten different terrain paints. NONE of it is mine.

so how did you make the illusion?

Helo Qcksilver.
Just put 3 (or however many) suitable lots in a row. Pick one to start with, and add landscaping, buildings, etc. THEN go to the edge that adjoins the next lot and count the number of tiles to whatever feature (or features) is going to be "extended" to the second lot. You can make a sketch if there are several features, so you know exactly how to match the details.
If you used normal Maxis lots the ground level should be close; if not you can use trees and shrubs to disguise the edge differences (I did this, because the terrain paint is different between the 5 X 5 and the 5 X 4 lots), or raise/lower the terrain.
Now you can go into the second lot and start matching up the details on the edge that joins the first lot. Finish landscaping this, second lot, and make a sketch of the features where the next (third) lot joins.
Then do this all again on the third (and any subsequent lots).
Keep returning to the Neighborhood View, to make sure the illusion works, and adjust the details accordingly (Not all features, like cars, statues, etc are suitable, so just pick ones that do work).
You can carry a single feature theme (I used a river) to blend the several lots.
I hope this is clear enough, if not let me know, and I'll see if I can come up with a more detailed explanation.

Hello Cee.
The horses are from here (just search the downloads section for all kinds of animals).
The swimable water is achieved by lowering the terrain 5 "cliks" with the terrain tool over all the area where the sims are to swim, then adding a deck (with ladder, diving board and steps) from the land to the water, and using suitable terrain paint for the water (I learned this recently from the wonderful modders here at MTS2). There are tutorials here, if you search, or better still for "real" water, go to Mike Inside's site: http://mikeinside.modthesims2.com/
for more advanced techniques.
And experiment with everything, in case you learn something new!

I know it might be asking allot... but isn't there a way to make a bigger lot? I know the 2 x 2 lot did not come with the game, yet it exists. I'm sure a big lot, say 10 x 10 would be a strain on some pcs, but isn't it posible??

Can't blame Qcksilver for starting a new thread, how many people can guess the title "Possibly The Biggest Building" meant "a series of lot blocks" or else?

I've posted a suggestion on the first thread and unwanna a repeat.

I'm presently busy on some other types of lots and don't foresee myself doing serial lots pretty soon, but interested in learning more on this topic. Hope you don't mind...

LP`,

Just imagine how most of our computer systems can handle those bigger lots even when they become available? Unless the game engine algorithms have been made as simple and efficient as it can be, no ease will be done on the resource-biting game engine as a whole. However, if the objects and buildings at those lots are kept small enough, they may run well. :blah:
