Default Custom Traits
I'm Pretty sure this is where this goes, forgive me i'm not a big forum guy:S.
I was wondering if anyone could help me 1. find custom traits (mainly want one like dirt defiant but for sleeping eg: Insomnia) or 2. point me to a guide that goes in depth on how to create my own traits. thank you for your time

They're definitely possible but as far as I can tell nobody is writing up how to do it.

Supposedly AwesomeMod includes hidden traits, such as incontinence, which makes sims pee themselves even fi their bladder isn't all the way down.

But I'm pretty sure that was made by that pescado guy and as far as I know he's become the biggest jerk there is in the world of sim modding and probably doesn't want to give it away.

Clearic - I don't see why he should say how to.

EDIT: But I do think it would be good if he did say how to.

Adding traits either requires a Core-Mod, such as Awesome, or a custom loader mod that reads new traits out of XML files.

And as an aside, you can read Pescado's Awesome code as easily as reading the EA-core code, provided you have the proper tools.

Cheers.

I've also known Pescado to be quite helpful to those who do the bulk of the legwork and research themselves - if you ask him to walk you through it he'll call you a moron, but if you just need a few pointers and can ask specific questions he's very helpful. He's still a jerk, but there's a logic to his madness.

I don't blame him, I guess. I can see how he'd get like that. His madness is the same as mine- lots of people on MTS are downright incompetent and nobody bothers to help them learn not to be complete and utter morons(instead they get gently lead to the right forums, their topics get moved, and they get nice pleasant warning messages before posting topics, which they don't read. THen they aren't punished for not even trying to do things right). So unless they try to learn themselves it gets frustrating to try and teach them. That's why he left, isn't it?

But still, something like that...would be a nice thing to just throw out there for anyone to work with.

Well as far as modding games go i'm still new to it especially core modifications the most i have ever done was on a 10 year old mmo called ultima online and all i did was edit a few specific art files so they would be easier to spot and not so laggy online

In order to create a custom trait, in addition to simply creating the entries, you have to define how it interacts with the game. This necessarily involves redefining the functionality of large portions of the game, and so there is no SINGLE method of magically doing so. You'd have to know exactly WHAT trait you want to make, and what exactly it is supposed to do, how it interacts with existing traits, etc. None of this is easy or can be made into a tutorial, as every trait is unique. Or should be, otherwise, why bother? This is why there is no writeup on it: It is a completely nonstandard procedure, and is utterly incompatible with anything else that attempts the same.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they pissed me off.

It is a powerful spell indeed that can cross such a great distance and resurrect such a dead thread.

I first had a shock when I saw Claeric's Avatar, thinking I got into a time loop ala Doctor Who. His posts still makes me cringe, Gah!

It got me so confused when I clicked on a "recently active" thread and saw Claeric right on the first comments.

Having killed the zombie post for three guideline violations (trifecta!), I am now staking this thread so it will stay in the grave.

Reminder to people seeking to learn how to mod the game: Claeric thinks you are incompetent and *gasp* Pescado is mean...no. I meant to say: Create > TS3. Right there in the top menu. Never be afraid of trying new things, even if you don't expect to succeed.
