Default Bake Sale Strats
Anybody have any success using the baker's stand yet? When I've tried it, I've been able to stock it with muffins (neat that you can now make an array of them ), and set prices, but even when I took it downtown to the park I didn't get any buyers.

I figure either a) I set the prices too high, b) my kid's cooking skill is too low, or c) the object is glitched

One of the loading screen tips says something about checking the newspaper before setting prices. What's that about? Any ideas?

I've had one buyer once. I suspect it's pricing. Something about the 'Bake Report' or something in the paper, right? Will research it.

I tried it out last night for the first time. My sim kid set it up in the front yard, stocked it with Vanilla muffins and set the pricing at $7 each. The first buyer refused and told me the price was too high so I lowered the price to $5 and managed to sell one to a second buyer. They really should haggle instead of just storming off if the price is too high.

My kid tried it on their home lot which was not near any other home lots (I placed a lot in Twinbrook near the arena). Sold all their vanilla but none of the others. I had left the prices as they defaulted and the non vanilla prices were much higher. The vanilla were priced at 5 and I think the non vanilla (can't remember the flavor) were 10. Even the earthquake in the middle of the sale didn't seem to keep people from buying the vanilla.

My simkids haven't tried the bake stand yet, but according to the Prima Guide (paraphrasing here), tastes are 'fickle' and by checking the daily baking report in the newspaper they can get an idea about what might be favored in any given day. If priced right, goods should "fly off the table"; if goods don't sell, lower the price to see if that gets a better response.

I haven't been able to sell anything yet. Even at a measly $1...
Most sims approach, drool over the goods and then walk away saying they're on a diet.

If you check the paper there is a "Baking Report"...it tells you what kinds of baked goods people are wanting in town...it should help

My kid maximized the "cooking skill" for kids and she makes everything Perfect yet I've only gotten one buyer. Too bad she's growing up in a Sim day!

Sims are stalking my front yard because of muffins! I don't sell very much but there is plenty of interest!

I love bake sales! I read the paper the day I want it set up to see which goods I should make more of. Having 2-3 plates of good should be alright for a few hours. Make sure to not stock burnt good!

My fav place to place the stand is near/infront of the grocery store in sunsetvalley. I get lots of customers there rather than a park or my frontyard. I've also never changed goods prices so its always on default. Hope this helps.

And I noticed a bug, my kid had a birthday while tendin the stand then the stand disappears after she aged she made pretty good earnings that day too.

Can you eat what you buy from a bake sale? My sim bought a chocolate cake. In the backpack the only option was 'clean up' so I put it on the counter and again only got the clean up option. It looked good and I was sad she couldn't eat it.

Yes, you can eat them. Put them into the fridge and then they show up in "eat leftovers".

Baking report.
It can only be read by kids, but I tend to quarantine my children so I wouldn't know exactly how it impacts sales, sorry.

My kid has her cooking skill very high. Everything she makes is perfect. I have her read the "baking report "in the paper and set her prices accordingly. I did notice that she gets about 2 customers at a time, and they like to chat distracting her from tending table. If customers don't show after she's stood there awhile I have her stop, go away, and do something else for bit then send her back to tend table. That tends to generate new customers. Also, look for feed back from customers and adjust prices accordingly. I have her make a variety of baked goods over a day or 2 and store them in the fridge till needed. The carmel brownies and vanilla cupcakes sell best in my game. My 1 disapointment is that family members can't buy.

She sells in her front yard.

My kid has had a steady stream of customers, especially once her cooking skill was maxed out. I had missed that kids could max out that skill and LOVE that I can now have a kid transition up with cooking already started.

has anyone had the problem of adults being unable to buy from the stand?

Any adult that comes up, my sim kid gets the help customer interaction automatically cancelled out, and the adult sims get a route failure speech bubble.
She can sell to kids fine. (I tried relocating the stand all over the lot and on community lots in case it just to make sure it wasn't a pathing issue)

I remember it worked fine in the past as I was laughing about one sim lady storming off saying she was on a diet.

Is this something that broke in a recent patch or is my game borked?

Route failure bubble, eh? That's a useful hint to look for. I'll see if I can find where the route failure bubble triggers.

Do kids get a boost to business or something while tending the stand?
Other than the cooking skill that gets raised to make the good, the stand seems to be more work than the effort,
because you have to actively watch them while they tend the stand as others will distract them with social interactions.
Checking the baking report, making the goods, getting out to a suitable location, bleh
The money isnt a factor and there are other activities they can do that dont require you policing them
