Default Hotel
Is it possible to create a hotel business?

If so, how would I do it?

What I have done is use a community lot and the first sims to arrive and buy a ticket until beds are full are the guests. At that point you can ban anymore sims arriving or not, so long as you remember who is staying and who isn't. You need to make those staying selectable because you don't want them to leave. Have each of them take a room with a uni door and they can lock it if you want. If you place two doors onto a room you can have couples. Have them sleep using the sleep in beds on community lots hack. Serve breakfast and make them all non selectable so they can leave when they want.

Another way is by making it a home bushiness.

This is the only way i have found to have a hotel like business.

Just to add to what Jo said: You can't use a hotel built like the game intends -- like the ones in the vacation hoods -- because they aren't ownable. But you can do it like Jo says. You can use the Uni doors on the individual rooms ( I think you have to build it as a dorm first, though...although I may be wrong about that), or Simlogical has a patch that allows you to make all doors "ownable," with up to four assigned keyholders per door. So, you could have four people to a room without having to use multiple Uni doors per room.

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

No, the mane doors go right onto a residential or community lot (see my retirement home) I've noticed a lot of people don't realize you can use them anywhere you want a private door. Sims can claim it and lock it just like they do at Uni, no cheats or rezonning needed.

Really? I could have sworn when I was building my barracks recently that they didn't show in my door catalog, so I assumed they'd only show when building a dorm. But then, I have like 27 bazillion doors in my door catalog, so I could have just been overlooking them. But I went the patch route instead, anyway, mostly because there wasn't enough entryway space to place two doors, at least not without it looking really dumb.

What I do when I can't find a maxis object is go into preferences under the cogs and switch to cc not shown. Makes it a whole lot easier to find things.

HAH! See, I didn't even know you could do that. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the tip!

I didn't even know that you could use the 'uni' doors on a residential lot!

I always thought that they would bug/corrupt if placed outside a University neighbourhood.

Are you folks talking about the Solidity Doors?

Or the Myne Doors?

The Myne doors, to make a pseudo-hotel.

OK. I never understood the purpose of the Myne Doors, since Sims can lock any door to keep others out. Why would a player want to build using the Myne?

Now, the Solidity Doors are described as being hotel doors, but what do they actually do?

(I don't mean to hijack the thread.)

Because the locking ability only became available with OFB, and Uni was released well before OFB. Also, I think that you can only use the Myne doors on dorm rooms, as opposed to just any door. Kinda like you can only use the Solidity door on (non-pseudo)hotel rooms and the apartment doors as entrance doors of apartments. They all have special coding that way.

Mane/Myne whatever my spelling isn't always the best, easier just to say Uni doors.

The reason you might use them on a community lot hotel is so the sims face shows, it helps me at least to remember who is staying and who might just be there for the poker. I used them on my retirement home https://www.modthesims.info/d/497990 it's zoned residential, again simply to remember who has which room.

The hotel doors are needed when you build a hotel, it's part of what is needed to make it work properly, just like apartments need the apartment door. They also must be placed the right way around.

Can you actually just "lock the door" on a community lot? And I was always using these Myne doors!

I assume so, my B&B is on a residential lot but I have a community lot motel ready, just need someone to buy it.

I wish I could run a hotel in TS2 like I can run a resort in TS3.

Sure, the expansion pack that gives you resorts, Island Paradise, doesn't have a whole lot of new stuff, but boats (& other water veichals), mermaids, islands, and resorts? Sign me up! My sims love the resorts there. <3 I wish I could make one of those in TS2 without all these complications...

The resorts in TS3 are fun, the only thing wrong with them is again Maxis tried to make it a mini game, making it so if you want a five star resort you must place certain things, things which don't suit every type of resort. Maxis love to get an idea in their head and then force it down our throats, bit like the stupid smart phones in TS4. In TS2 the mistake was not making those hotels ownable but you can make the non owned ones however you like, beach resort, snowy MT resort (Just wish someone would make a skiing mod one day).

A skiing mod would be fantastic, and it wouldn't really even have to be an active mod, would it? It could be kind of in the same vein as the hiking or jogging options from FT, where your Sim leaves the lot in appropriate attire, is gone for a little while, and then reappears with something having happened during their ski run (or maybe even chance cards like the BV tours offer)

As far as the hotels go, you can probably still get plenty of mileage by designing a ski-lodge, and then just fill it with a variety of apres-ski appropriate options for the guests... *me wanders off to see about designing a ski lodge*

If I could mod and mesh etc, I would make it like the surfing mod, where the sim puts on skis and you see them doing curves down a slope. But as you said even disappearing and getting chance cards would be something.

I've thought about building a ski lodge. There is a small slide thing on here somewhere, but I can't remember what it's called. It's like a snow covered hill that sims can slip down.

You can use the Uni doors (the Myne doors) on non-Uni lots. That's how I used to fake apartment buildings before I went to the Dark Side and was able to use AL for reals.

But yeah, I think even a skiing "tour" offered at the Three Lakes location would have been nice. Or perhaps some really talented person could mod MSD's surfing mod into a snowboarding one. At least then maybe the animations could be recycled. After all, MOST people these days go to the mountains to ski/snowboard, at least in the winter, not to go on tours of logging operations. I mean, seriously, what were they thinking?

yeah, I want to go on a logging tour as much as watch paint dry. The one time I went to the snow I went sledding.

I've kind of treated Three Lakes as a Gold-Rush-boomtown-cum-logging-facility-cum-tourist-trap... Particularly the Gold-Rush makes it a bit more believable as a place people would visit- I kind of treat it like Skagway, Alaska (I've never been there, but my dad had worked as a Ranger there, so I heard lots of Gold Rush stories growing up)- no ski area, but lots of Western history. I've also done lots of mountain vacationing in my life, which has included touring old-fashioned mining and, yes, logging operations, and it IS fun.

And sorry iCad, but if Zarathustra ever gets around to making a ski lodge, it'll probably be quite a while from now!
