Several severe glitches and missing stuff after Mansion & Garden stuff install
Hi everyone this is my first time posting but I'm at the end of my tether trying to get this to work.
I recently got back into Sims 2 in the last few months, I have all the EPs and the Kitchen & Bathroom stuff pack (All original CDs). And just this week I came across the Mansion and Garden stuff pack, I never really thought much about it before but after looking into it the Art Deco additions to build mode etc really interested me so I found a used copy (with case and manual etc) on ebay. When it arrived I foolishly didn't do a back up of my game prior (I know I know). I do have a back up saved to an external hard drive but that was from awhile ago and I've done a lot since then.
Installation went seemingly fine without a hitch, so I booted it up, loaded into my favourite neighbourhood just fine, and clicked play on my current family. Seemed to load fine except after the coloured loading boxes (can't think of a better word, when it loads it puts colour to some the icons on the background behind the portrait of the family you're loading) completed and it swishes back (again for lack of better words, sorry!) it didn't do anything, just the cursor egg timer kept spinning and spinning, left it for a good hour and it didn't change, so I minimized it to the desktop and closed it with task manager. I booted it up again using a different family to the same result. So that's when I went through the FAQ Game Problems topic, and I've done everything. I removed all my CC, which didn't change much. Then I tried to reinstall it clean and now I can load families, but regardless of any I go into (Default families of course since it's completely fresh) when it loads, the Sims temperature bars are all the way to top (though no sunburn), keyboard commands aren't working, and things are missing from Build Mode (the Garage, Elevator, and 2 Story column icons are greyed out, nothing comes up when I click the 'Architecture' icon) and a couple of Buy Mode icons are greyed out too (Pets and Cars I can remember but there were a couple more) and I can't find anything relating to the Mansions and Gardens stuff pack.
I am completely confused to what's going on, no matter what I've tried it hasn't changed, I've done the Graphics Rules etc and all my patches are up to date, I'm wondering if it could be an issue with the CD itself?
When I uninstalled it I booted it up as Apartment Life and it worked fine as it always had done. I know this is a bit long winded but I can't find anyone having the same problems after trawling through here and google and I'm feeling a bit lost, if any of you lovely folk can help I'll be endlessly thankful.

It may be worth noting that I use an external CD/DVD drive since the one built into my laptop failed, but I've been using it for a couple of years and it installed the rest of my Sims 2 EPs no problem.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice!
