Automatic Gender Preference

Update 21/06/2026:
- Sims present on the lot will now keep their gender preference when the game is saved.
- Fixed an identity fraud issue in the "adjust sim" sub-menu that was caused by an error in the coding of the "change model" sub-menu.

Ever since I stopped using ACR in my game I have been looking for an alternative way to randomise gender preference. The simblender was a decent replacement. I had to manually randomise the hood everytime a sim aged up but it still got the job done. Until the adjust percentage feature became permanently stuck at 0%. So I made my own, completely from scratch.

Hang on a second... you remade a complicated mod that already exists and didn't even reuse the code? Yes, because there is one thing that ACR (and simblender, because the gender preference randomiser is identical to ACR's) doesn't have. Aromantic asexuals. Yes, you could just assign gender preference to "none" and there are traits that take care of the autonomy and wants aspect, which works great if you're playing a sim that's alloromantic or allosexual. But to my knowledge, there is no plugin to get ACR to recognise aroace as an actual gender preference that isn't just "unassigned" and therefore be overwritten anytime gender preference is randomised.

Mod Details

Setting up automatic gender preference for your neighbourhood is as simple as purchasing the Gender Preference Controller from the misc/misc section of the catalogue and placing it somewhere on the lot. When present, the controller will periodically check for sims without a gender preference and randomly assign one to them. To disable automatic gender preference simply sell the controller.

The chance for each gender preference is as follows;
- 5% AroAce
- 10% Gay
- 10% Bi
- 75% Straight

If you wish to customise the percentages to your liking, you can change the values in the BCON.

Menu options

Randomise Hood Gender Pref
- Randomises the gender preference of every sim in the neighbourhood, regardless of whether or not they have been assigned a gender preference (will not change the gender preference of sims with a crush/in love/engaged/married status).

Show Hood Census
- Checks the gender preference of every sim in the neighbourhood and displays the results in a text notification. The "questioning" category is for sims whose gender preference is 0 towards one or both genders (usually the premade sims).

Adjust Sim
- Can be used to randomise gender preference, show gender preference and manually assign a gender preference to individual sims on the lot.

Change model
-Can change the appearance of the controller to something that better suits the lot (only applies to the controller on that lot)

Conflicts

- None, the mod doesn't change any maxis BHAVs. However if you use ACR make sure that ACR's auto gender preference is disabled.
