Can't thank you enough, this is amazing!!! :lovestruc :lovestruc

And I love how the recommended way to fix the TVs is turning them off/on XD

Edit: The results are seriously good btw, I've been remastering storytelling pics but couldn't get some of them to look this good. Which technique did you use?

Wow, your "footage" looks a lot clearer than the originals. I'll give this a try, good job and many thanks!

lol I had to fix the TV that way the first time I tried them in-game. I;'m being using the replacements for over a month and I've never seen it happening again so far.
On the technique, I applied almost every clip a different filter or parameters because the source quality was inconsistent and I barely know my way around a media editor so it was kinda trial and error. For instance it was a pain to edit the weather channel because if you go too harsh on smoothing it would turn out looking like a completely different thing, like a blurred watercolor canvas. But I wanted the results to not change the aesthetic of the videos so you have to make compromise sometime. But pics are something else, i think, which ones are you editing, like the ones that appear when you hit F4? there are bigger versions somewhere in the game files iirc.

I wonder, is it safe to overwrite entire folders? I understood that it's better to replace the files individually within the folders.

It's safe, but there's no harm in replacing individually if you prefer that. Older computers didn't always replace full folders properly (it wouldn't leave in things that didn't get replaced, for example; basically just deleted the old folder and put the new one in) but I don't think they've had that problem for some years. Unless you're playing on something older than Windows 7, you should be good.

Thanks so much for this, guirnaldas! I've been wanting better quality for a while now, but I don't have much experience with that kind of thing.

I did not have any problems overwriting in that way, or restoring the originals from the backup.zip, but as annachibi said, you can do it individually if you want to be extra safe, just make sure you made a backup first. Anyway I'll update to an easier install method.

This mod seems really cool, but when tvs are on, all I can see is a blank white screen. Even after it’s been turned on and off again. Does it matter if I manually make the sims turn it off then on? Or should it work if they do it autonomously? I followed the instructions very carefully, but could I have just installed it wrong or something?

it sohuldn't matter if they do it autonomously, but it sounds like you did something wrong. I never experienced a white screen though afaik if the white screen you see has some text on it, it means the video files are not where they're supposed to be. Tell me exactly how you installed them -either to program files or to Documents- so I can try and see why it doesnt work.

I went into each folder in the rar files, and pasted the "Broadcast" and "Games" folders into C:\Users\music\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Movies. I did this for every folder besides Nightlife.

Check the structure in your Documents is correct, for example you should have a clip for the food channel in:
C:\Users\music\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Movies\Broadcast\TvFood\tv_food_contest.movie (a 2.263KB file)
A clip for the simcity4 videogame should be in:
C:\Users\music\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Movies\Games\sc4\sc4_P1WIN.movie (a 7.264 KB file)
And so on...

That's how I have my setup right now with no problem. Previously I had my files replacing the originals in the game installation path, so if you checked the above and are absolutely sure everything is like it should and still see a white screen when selecting, for instance, the food channel in the game, then I would recommend to stick with the originals... or if you're feeling like it, try the 'program files' method (backup the originals if you do it). It's the same folder structure only separated by EPs.
For example, a clip for the spring weather channel should be in:
Program files\EA Games\"Seasons EP"\TSData\Res\Movies\Broadcast\TV_Weather_Spring\wc_spring.movie (a 545 KB file)

It's worth mention that I have the disc version of the game and the path may be different. I don't have the ultimate collection nor I have receive feedback from other UC users but i guess it works the same way.

@Jasminnielopes if you didnt backup it means you did not follow the guide anyway, if you need the originals I've no problem uploading them somewhere, just tell me all or which one.

While I use entirely custom clips for my own TV's (and thus won't be using this, sorry! :c), I find it amazing how much can be done with the original TV clips by simply filtering, resizing and enhancing it, without swapping out the source material itself. Amazing!

@Renfree I look it up and found a similar case, please check this topic.

My situation is not quite the same as that in the topic. The game does not crash, the sim can play the SXX on the computer for example, but the screen stays black and the game lags a bit. The TV simply does not play videos that should be on TV channels. I tried a TVmusic channel, it just has endless ads. If sim turn on the movie, then black screen and hard lags begin.
At the same time, I have custom videos for TV (all of them in avi or mp4 format) and even custom channels. Everything works. Maybe converting helps?

It seems my problem was solved by reinstalling the K-Lite Codec pack (version 1740 Full). TV, games, everything works great! Thank you so much for your work, the videos look much better!

So it was a codec issue after all, I'm glad you fixed it! Thank you for the feedback.

Haha I got the original files from the other directory, except for the backup part I followed the installation guide to put the archives at C:\Users\Jas\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Movies

I tried installing in the other path but I had the same all-black or all-white screens, I didn't know what to do to solve it, so I took it out of the game

@Jasminnielopes did you try what Renfree wrote a few posts above? Reinstalling the proper video codec may fix the issue.
