Revised object March 22, 2008
=======================
Delete the previous version, and any instances in your lots. You might also want to delete the thumbnail cache so that this new version displays properly.
This revised object is colour-enabled, and of course requires the CEP for the recolours to work. This object now uses the repository method, so the door will use any ValueWood Lumber's "Justa Door" recolours that you have installed. And I have also created two recolours of very basic wood versions. If you want to recolour the door, you need to do a recolour of the value door, not a recolour of this object. The clothes in the closet for this object are still recolourable, but I didn't use the repository method on them because all of the clothes in the various armoires are pretty boring.
=======================
Basic Description:
This is a new mesh of a working, single tile closet, which has the functionality of a dresser. This was completely inspired by Marmy's Single Built-in Closet (see the link below). I wanted something that could be placed more like a real door within the walls. I know that we don't really need closets now that so many people have created working clothing racks that you can place in a walk-in closet, but I really just wanted to see if I could do it. It's nice to have it as one object. I know that the value door is pretty ugly, but it was more about the challenge of creating the object than it was about the beauty, at this point.
Marmy’s Single Built-in Closet - http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=190706
This object has its own GUIDs, and any mods are self-contained in the object. Almost everything in the base lockers object was modified to get this to work the way that I wanted.
The animation is not perfect yet. I have created new animations for both adult and child, but I’m still not an expert animator.
The thumbnail for this needs work. I wanted to be able to see both the door and the side angle of the clothes, as the clothes are actually a recolourable subset. I've been playing around with adding a thumbnail extension into the CRES, but I just haven't worked out the best camera angle yet. Those rotations and translations are tricky.
This object stays up when walls are in cutaway mode. You will sometimes see some weirdness down in the bottom corners of the doorframe if this is placed on a wall where the front wall butts up against a full wall. Hard to explain but I've circled it in one of the attached images. It's nothing major, but I didn't want anyone to report it as a problem.
Catalogue: Miscellaneous / Dresser
This mesh is a combination of a few different Maxis objects, the value door, the lockers, and some of the clothing racks. This object will show up in the catalogue under dressers and works in residential lots only.
Requirements:
You need to place this in a wall as you would any door. As a minimum you need to have University and Open for Business for it to work, but it does work with any other EPs installed as well as the required EPs. I've tested it with all EPs up to Free Time installed.
Usage Policies:
Feel free to recolour to your heart’s content. If you are going to clone and modify the mesh to make something more aesthetically pleasing, it would be nice if you pointed back to this object as the place where you got your inspiration. Also feel free to include this in your lot uploads, but I would appreciate that you point back here so that I get a bit of credit for my hard work. You may want to hold off cloning this object until I clean up the outstanding issues, but if you want to clone it and make it work better, feel free to go for it.
What’s next?
I’d like to clean up the little things that are still bugging me about this object, and then I think I'm going to work on a different door. I've seen a few louvered doors around that I think would be more of a classic closet door. I'm also thinking of a 2 tiled door based on the sliding door, but with a mirrored surface. I have a lot more reading to do before I tackle a mirrored surface.
Polygon Counts:
Polys: 1566 (clothing rack: 1074 door: 492)
Vertices: 2383 (clothing rack: 1814 door: 569)
Additional Credits:
Credit must go to Numenor, wes_h, Echo, and everyone posting in the Modding InfoCenter. I haven't spoken to these people directly, but the posts and tutorials by these people have been invaluable in creating this object. Also to the creators of SimPE, Milkshape, Wings3D, and UV Mapper, all of which I am finally starting to understand. It was a steep learning curve.

This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below for more information.
