Thank you! I was forced to move to Legacy edition (curse you Windows 11!!!) and was scared I'd have to rack my brain over installing the old one, but here you are saving my skin! One question, though. Is it possible to go from Family Information to a family member like in the previous SimPE version or do I have to find them in the Sim Description to edit them? Also, is there a way to bring back the family thumbnails in the Family Editor?

I just fired up my trusty 0.75 SimPE, looking for a way to go from the FAMI display to a Sim Description. There is none. You can click the name of a family member, but that’s just so you can delete them. I see no obvious way to do what you want. Clicking on Sim Description in the upper left panel triggers the loading of the Sim Descriptions. No way to see a Sim Description until it is loaded.

As for the family thumbnails, they are not located in FAMI, but in FAMT, Family Ties. Click the file in the upper right panel, then choose the family in the dropdown box in the PluginView.

Ah, right, I must've done something else then to do that. Thanks for the answer and explanation, and thanks again for this version!!

Default Feedback-1
Hi. Got around to installing it to see if I can set it up on my new machine. Win 11, custom installation path (see pic).

Have some feedback

1. Thank you for the bigger font size in the resource tree and resource list!

2. I rearranged the UI to my liking and saved the preferences, but upon reopening, it reverts back to the default layout. That might be on me—maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere?

2a. In the resource windows, if I change the order of the taps(?) like "group" "instance" etc. It doesn't stick. Upon reloading a file or the program, it reverts back.

2b. The "tools" thingy doesn't have a dropdown and I can't configure anything. The pic shows a comparison of both UI setups in my preferences. SimPe_75-69-23 is on top, yours is below.

3. I added the expansion pack folders to the FileTable. It seems only half of them were recognized due to my "special" installation, and I'm not sure what consequences that will have. See the pics for where my game is installed and the folder names that came with the install.
I set the game location to custom and that seems ok. It also found the CEP, so that's

4. Alternative Sim Surgery PlugIn. I added the dll to the plugins folder, but I can't find it in the menu. Do I need to manually load it or something? Or is it unsupported?

Hello! It's me again, after a bit of absence from testing. SimPE works very well for me now functionally, there's just a couple features I miss from the 0.77.69 version I'm used to.

Is it possible, in the Sim Description plugin view, to see the NPC type that a Sim has assigned to it?
I know I can see the NPC type in the "Other" tab but that's just a number without a label, and I like my labels with the numbers I see.

In the attached example picture here, 0.77.69 shows me that Peggy Newman is a Chinese Food Delivery NPC. 0.8.2.14 shows nothing there.

Also, maybe it'd be possible to also show the Family's name next to the Family Instance? This is a very recent change in Chris Hatch's versions but one I find quite neat, as not all Sims of mine are in families with a name that matches their own.

Thanks in advance!

I think I have everything you mentioned fixed. I sent you a PM about the File Table issue. Please message me back if that does not fix it.

Theo’s Alt Sim Surgery was not working because it was built against SimPE 0.56, and depended on files that were renamed or moved. I downloaded it from MATY, the latest version I could find. It came with the source, so it was not a big deal to fix the couple of wrong dependencies and compile it against my SimPE. It should work as well as it ever has, as no underlying code was changed. It will be included as a plugin in the next release, with all your bug fixes and Bluebyre’s feature requests. I will work on those tomorrow.

yay the alternative surgery is back!

and yay for fixing the layout reset. you rock.

I am going to test the loading issue with the file table now! of course, after I replied. so expect another reply

Edit:
Interesting. Instead of selecting the folder "Apartment Life", I went one down and selected the TSData folder within. That added the folder correctely and recognized the pack.
I pressed "reload folder" just in case. It appears, it loaded all packs. from what I could read in the bottom left corner.

Both things added, and they do look quite handy! They will be in the 0.8.2.15 release, coming soon. I've added Theo's Alt Sim Surgery and Theo's Color Binning Tool plugins, since the existing versions just will not work on my SimPE. They were built for SimPE 0.56, and changes to SimPE since then makes them not work. Considering adding a Collections tool, but need to find an open source one, or a creator's permission. I like JFade's work in general. His Collection Creator is not a Plugin for SimPE, but I can make it work, I think.

Thank you so much for doing this!

I haven't been able to try it out yet (so have no useful feedback) but I just wanted to say that I for one would love a Collection tool of some kind! It would make my life both as a player and as a creator much easier if I could manage my collections with SimPE instead of in game (JFade's tool doesn't work very well on my Win 11 machine, esp if I try to add new items to an existing collection).

I have sent an email to JFade, requesting his permission to use his app as a base for a SimPE plugin. His code is not GPL, so I must get permission.

Thanks for the quick reply! Fingers crossed, then. Again, thank you so much for taking this on!

I am going to need more Information. How are you trying to export the mesh? What is your sequence of steps? I just exported a mesh from a Maxis object, and the obj file is sitting on my desktop, so I know it CAN work. In order to fix this possible bug, I need to know how it is failing for you.

Through the PJSE - Body Tool - Extracting Stage
It's clothing meshes I'm having the problem with.

Hmm. I opened a clothing mesh file, and tried the PJSE Body mesh tool, extracting stage, and got that message. Then I did the exact same thing in SimPE 0.75, and got the same message.

What are you expecting SimPE to do? I will go look for a tutorial to see if we are both doing something wrong.

If it is just the actual mesh you want to have as a separate file, click on the GMDC file and then in PluginView click export.

Are you doing this? https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=141997

Hi again! I just tried to install v. 0.8.3 for Windows (I'm on Win 11), but I immediately ran into the same problem with the CEP that others have reported (and that I thought had been fixed?), where SimPE looks for the CEP folder inside the Downloads folder even though that's not where it's supposed to be installed (as others have pointed out, it goes in the user root folder). The only way for me to get past it was to copy the CEP folder to Downloads (it refused to let me continue otherwise, I couldn't set the file path manually).

I have a custom installation (Magipacks), which is also what I selected in the Game Locater, but SimPE is able to find everything else for the CEP just fine so the problem doesn't seem to be with my setup.

WHAT??? I know I fixed that. Will look into it again today. Also, the Collection Creator Plugin is nearly done, I got permission from JFade.

I know, and tbh at first I thought it was me who had messed it up (that can defo happen), but I've checked and triple checked and I can't see what it could be in that case. Maybe I should also add that I downloaded it yesterday (and I've checked that I really got 0.8.3 for Windows and nothing else) so I do have the current version, I didn't accidentally install an outdated one.

That's great news about the Collection Creator!

Also, I know you didn't ask for it, but I was able to replicate Julie J's issues with the PJSE not extracting mesh parts. I go to Tools -> PJSE -> Body Mesh Tool -> Extracting stage and type in the mesh name in the Sim Mesh Extractor (I tried it with afbodydress, a base game outfit) - but then I get the error message "not all parts could be found for mesh: afbodydress" and nothing else happens. But I DON'T get this error message in 0.77 (and also didn't with 0.75); there, when I try to extract the same mesh (exactly the same, I copypasted the mesh name from 0.8.3), it happily extracts the GMDC, GMND, SHPE and CRES as expected.

In 0.8.3 I can still use Finder to locate and extract the mesh parts manually (like we did back in the good - or bad - ol' days). So it's not that 0.8.3 doesn't know where to find them, the problem seems to be with the PJSE.

Ah, thank you so much for the more detailed bug report! If you could just tell me what type of package you are extracting from, it would be extremely helpful. A mesh file? A recolor? The sequence of steps would be good, too. In 0.75 I reproduced the error message, so I must be doing something wrong. I should have enough info to fix it once I know that.

Also, know that I found the zCEP search in Downloads cause - it was a trailing backslash that should not have been there. Both fixes will be in 0.8.3.1, along with Collection Creator, when I finally get it done.
