Default The Ultimate Legacy Challenge
I decided I wanted some more complicated rules for my legacy challenge so I found the original rules and changed them up a bit and thought I'd share for anyone else who might want to try! This is definitely a harder version.

Sims 3 Ultimate Legacy Challenge Rules
The Ultimate Legacy Challenge is a long, 10-generation challenge where you start out with a single founder and very humble beginnings and try to lead the family to fame, fortune and success over the course of 10 generations. The difference from a regular Legacy Challenge is it’s a lot worse.

Starting Out
Create a brand new game file. You will be using this file exclusively to play your Ultimate Legacy Challenge. You may use an existing game file, but your Ultimate Legacy family must immediately become the “Active Household” and not cease to be active for the duration of the challenge. You may select any neighborhood. My favorite is Ultimate Legacy Island III. (https://www.thesims3.com/assetDetai...assetId=8219962)

The challenge begins with a single founder. Make this founder in Create A Sim. They may be male or female. They may be any age that can have children. You have full choice over their look, color and clothing. You may choose all 5 traits as well as their three favorite likes (food, music and color) and a lifetime want. No other Sims may be created in the founder’s family. Be creative with the family name, you’ll be seeing it for quite some time.

Now to place the founder. You can move into any lot, but bigger is recommended. A classic Ultimate Legacy uses 60x60 or 64x64. Use the family funds cheat to set your household funds to 0. All legacies start out with very humble beginnings, but especially this one, so expect your founder to live like a hobo for a while.

Speaking of hobos, you don’t actually own your lot! Luckily, no other Sims have noticed you squatting. Before you can build anything, you must save up to pay the city a $1000 fee to purchase it.

Rules
1) No cheating. No money or mood cheats with the exception of setting your family funds to 0 in the beginning of the game, purchasing your lot for $1000, and setting the proper amount whenever you have Sims move in. You can’t use anything that lets making money or improving your moods easier. Mods that make your game harder, however, are greatly encouraged. CC and other mods are fine, as long as they do not make it easier! See the end of this post for links to recommended and optional mods. You may use custom objects, as long as their price and mood effects are in line with similar ‘official’ objects. Objects purchased from the Sim Store are considered ‘official’ as well as the ones included with the game.
For each generation, you are allowed a “grand value limit” for individual item sales based on that generation’s number. Meaning, in generation 1, you cannot sell any item worth more than $1000. In generation 2, no more than $2000. In generation 3, no more than $3000, etc. (Example: In generation 1, you could sell two paintings worth $500 each, but you can’t sell a singular painting worth $1001.) Tiberium, who? 😂 If you have items of value that you wish to sell, keep the item within the family until the generation you are able to sell it.
  • A GVL is unlocked every time you have a Sim of the next generation reach adulthood. (Example: your founder’s baby reaches adulthood, that would then be considered the start of generation 2, not when they’re born!)
  • GVL only applies to item sales. If your Sim is granted money for an opportunity or something similar, they may keep it. If it’s not from the sale of an object, it does not apply.
  • By generation 10, if you make it that far, the GVL is lifted and you can sell items for any amount.
2) Black Market Restriction: The Black Market is no longer being monitored by police. Kleptos, rummagers and thieves are now allowed to liquidate their ill gotten goods for cash. However, any stolen goods cannot be sold for more than your current GVL.
3) You cannot purchase any electronics or appliances until you have four walls and a roof. Sorry, but you’re going to have to go to community lots to survive. Nap on benches. Steal from picnics. Shower in a sink. You’ll figure it out.
4) Life spans must be set to normal. (Optional: Or short!)
5) You cannot ward off death or extend your Sims lives in any capacity. (This includes elixirs, Lifetime Rewards, death flowers, ambrosia, life fruit, etc.) Supernaturals are allowed in the Ultimate Legacy Challenge, but you must use a mod to set their lifespans to a human one. You cannot resurrect dead Sims.
6) No MultiTab 6000 for listening to podcasts. You can still use the other functions. You can use toddler objects (Head Start Playpen, Local Motion Toddler Walker, etc…?) from TS3 Store AFTER your Sims have taught your Sims their required toddler skills themselves. It’s all about that annoying, time-wasting family bonding in this ultimate challenge.
7) You cannot travel to the future until the final generation.
8) You can marry whomever you choose, EA created or not, throughout the Ultimate Legacy challenge, but all Sims must move in with zero dollars. Write down your family funds before you move a Sim in, move them in, and then reset your household back to the proper amount.
9) You can have more than 8 Sims but it costs $16,500 fee to move a Sim out.
10) You cannot buy any real estate outside of your current Ultimate Legacy lot until generation 2 reaches adulthood.
11) No Sims/families may ever be merged into the Ultimate Legacy family. If you wish to add members, they must be done in game.
12) You may age Sims up via the birthday cake only once the game prompts you with a reminder of their impending birthday, not earlier. Though, I don’t think you’ll be wanting to! You do not have to use the birthday cake to age Sims up, you can wait for the game to force the age transition if you wish.
13) The Ultimate Legacy family must be the “Active Household” during the entire challenge. You may never switch the active household to another family. If you want to take a break from Ultimate Legacy play, it is recommended you play in another saved game slot.
14) Only Sims with a Gatherer, Animal Lover, or Adventurous trait can buy the Collection Helper Lifetime Reward.
15) The following Lifetime Rewards CANNOT be used:
  • Inheritance
  • Dusty Old Lamp
  • Immortal
  • Age Freeze
  • Moodlet Manager
  • No Bills Ever

Optional Rules: All Sims apart from the founder must have their traits randomized. I know a lot of Simmers like this, but I personally don’t. I’m a bit of a control freak. 😂 I do, however, give them a mix of “good” and “bad” traits. I just like to design all of my Sims myself and choose what hobbies/careers they’ll later enjoy. You can make it harder and randomize it, though!
