This user has the following games installed:
Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
This will help you install custom houses
Greetings fellow Sim Maniacs!
I have been enjoying this site for weeks now and have been like a kid in a candy store. So many wonderful downloads it's just amazing!
I decided to share a process I came up with for the problems we have installing (and seeing in game) custom houses.
What you will need: A folder on your desktop -- Mine is "Houses"
Paper and pen (or a pencil if you so desire)
First, before you fire up the game... go shopping! As you download the houses, write down what the file/name is. When the download is complete DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK IT (this is assuming you use Sim2Clean Installer, which is what this process is based on). Instead, drag the house into your folder on the desktop. Leave it for now. Repeat this for all your new homes.
When you're finished shopping, open the Houses folder. Find the new houses you want to install in the game. Now you can double click them. One at a time.
First... double click a house. When
Clean Installer opens, UNCHECK the lot segment (should be first item in list). Now install the rest. Be sure you check No to All for any dupes. Now put a check mark next to that house on your sheet indicating that all the items for it are installed. Repeat this process for all desired homes.
What I have noticed is that the game will only allow one house lot segment in the Teleport Folder. This is the folder that the game uses to install a lot when you go live. But I found a little workaround. At this point you can install ONE house lot file. Just click the lot icon (2nd from left on upper right) and install it. If you get a message that the file exists, don't worry about it. Just proceed with the following.
Now that all of your items for your custom houses are installed, start your game. Go to desired neighborhood. You can check your houses and see if that one you just installed made it from the Teleport Folder. If not, as stated, no worries.
What I do now is switch to Downtown (or vice versa, depending on where you want to place your homes). Once there, ALT TAB out to your desktop. Now go into your Houses folder and pick a house to install. Double click it, select Lot Only (the little house icon) and install it.
Go back into game, switch to Neighborhood view and voila! Your house is now in the game. What I do at this point is circle that house so I know it's in my game. Go back Downtown, ALT TAB, repeat until you have your houses.
I found this much easier than trying to figure out how to get the houses to load en masse before starting my game.
I hope this helps and if someone else has already suggested this path, I haven't found it and I apologize to anyone if they did.
Happy Simming!
