Default Changing Beds Comfort Value
Hi There!

I am looking for information on how to change the value of Comfort (i.e. Regain rate) for SimPE. I am trying to edit one of the "value" beds so it is a bit more comfortable as I love the look of it.

I have the latest version of SimPE (ver. 054?) and while I figured out how to recolor objects and why my nightlife items were not appearing I am mystified on how to do this.

Thank you for any help that you can provide!

Just a quick reply as you seem to already be familiar with Simpe, so hope this is enough to help.
You need to look in the ObjectData file. Then in the bottom pane there are two tabs, the default being 'Catalog Sort'. You need to click on 'RAW Data' instead.

Then you will find a list of many different ratings. For the comfort of the bed you scroll down to 'ratingComfort'. Click the 'Decimal' choice for the radio buttons on the right to make it easier to change. Change the rating to whatever you want it to be, click commit and then go file/save.
By 'regain' however, you might mean the Energy, so change ratingEnergy for that. Energy is the rating which determines how fast you recover Energy, ie determines how long you need to sleep.

You only need to do this for the first of the ObjectData files listed.

Thank you very much Aristotle for you guidance. I haven't done the steps suggested as of yet but now that I read it I am off to give it a go! Thank you and I will let you all know my success!

Talamaine, I think all you've done there is to change the rating that shows up in the catalogue.

In the bed package tweak BCON Tuning sleep 0x1001:0x02
That is the actual rate of energy climb.
For the majestic it's decimal 38 (not 48), lowering down to about twenty something for the cheap beds.

If you look at Pescado's sleep clock, or rather the RTFM.txt, you'll be able to compare the values to other Maxis beds.

Edit: Talamaine, your post #7 made me re-read my values, I dunno where I got 48 from :/

My apologies, tunaisafish is quite right, I missed out the *essential* bit, also changing the BCONs. Without that the change is purely 'cosmetic'.

As a guide, the Energy 6 of the Colonial Ironwood Bed (and 0thers) has a value of decimal 36 in the BCON. The Zenu Meditation or Oriental Double Bed (Energy 4) has 29. And the cheapest beds, the single Craftmeister and the double Cheapeze (both Energy 2), both have 25.

Thank you both. I did some lookin at what I did and your right my first attempt just changed the catelog description not the actual value or rate of return of energy and comfort. Thanks for more input guys!!! I am off to give this a shot now. Wish me luck as I suck at non-decimal numbers, heh.

I know how you feel with the numbers See #5 above.

The comfort value will most likely be in other BCON but I don't know offhand (or off my piles of paper) which one.

Edit: Moderators, can you move this thread over to 'Modding Discussion' please. Hopefully others have worked out the other BCON values.

Aristotle & tunaisafish - Thanks to both of you I have successfully edited both the comfort and energy gain! Now, I can modify the bed I was originally wanting to use. I love the bed but the regain is way to low for how I play.

As a note to anyone doing this:

When you have cloned your object and made your changes if you do not get a new GUID for all the ObjectData you will make your ingame object unusable. You need a new GUID for all of these "folders" so that it is a new item in the catalog and your old one is still usable.

To sum up...

1/ To change the values displayed in the catalogue edit the ObjectData (OBJD) file.
Follow the instructions given by Aristotle in post #2 of this thread.
In the same file you can also change the price field.

2/ Then edit the behaviour constant to how you want your bed to behave.
BCON Tuning - sleep
0x1001:0x00 ComfortPoints/hour
0x1001:0x01 Comfort Max (0x64 means full)
0x1001:0x02 EnergyPoints/hour

The motive bars range from -100 when fully red to 100 when fully green.

3/ Don't forget to create a unique GUID for all OBJD files in the cloned package.

I just noticed this thread and it answers one of the questions I had about changing the comfort/energy values for a bed. (Discovered that I had only done the description part, not the BHAV part).

Anyway my question is: Do I have to create a unique GUID for the changed bed if 1) it is not a Maxis bed and 2) I don't intend to make any other changes other than the energy/comfort level. In other words, can I just save the changed object and continue to use it in game?

If not, how do I create a unique GUID as stated in item 3 of tunaisafish's summary.

If you dont create a new object, the object you changed will act accordingly in game. If you do want a new object, first create a copy of the custom object you hacked. Put the original back to the way it was. To give the copy new guids, open each objd in turn and click the get GUID button. If you don;t yet have an account in the guid database, click the button Create New User. Only do this once. Go through all the steps and a new guid will be assigned.

Please don't PM me with questions. Post them in the appropriate thread.

Hi,

Maybe I'm an idiot...

I'm trying to change the energy & comfort levels of some beds I d/l. I'm using SimPE 0.58, and these instructions dont seem to make any sense to me. Has something changed since this tut was written? Can somebody clever update it if it has?

Thanks so much in advance!

Nothing has changed. Have you gone through and introductory tutorial for SimPE?

yes, I have. I have used SimPE to recolour bedding and paintings, so I'm not that proficient, but I'm not a total newbie.

Maybe I'm just not reading it carefully enough.

Thanks though.
