Default Stylist Career Question
I love the Stylist career but every time I give someone a makeover for a job, they hate it. I did everything they requested. Why is this?

If this belongs in the help forums, sorry. I didn't really think it was a technical question.

wish i knew the answer as my sim is the same. maybe they have to develop their creative skill before they finally get a good makeover at least thats what i am going to try

I've met one sim who actually enjoyed her make-over, but it was Give Fashion Advice and its the one they seem to give to girls alot (The blue shirt and colorful skirt).
I had to wait till' I was at stylist level 9 before somebody enjoyed a make-over... Haha

I found that the higher up the career path my stylist sim got AND the more he researched new ideas on the drafting table/increased his painting skill...those result go away and I only really get positive results now.

Agh, it's so frustrating, why is what I'm doing not counting towards 'doing what the client asked for'
I gave him all he wanted, what didn't count?! If this is a bug then I hope EA know about it and fix it in a patch soon.
I wish it would check off outfits/hairstyles etc that were requested as you go too.

which ones is your problem? the client who requests for you to style him/her? or the one you request by using the mirror in the salon. im just starting out with this career and the clients who requested my help got good results so far. the thing im having trouble about this career is i always get 1 star for every client i request to do a makeover with.

My tips for the stylist career is to remember to do more than the person has asked for to give them a new overall look. This does go further than is required, but I only gave 2 poor make overs by lvl 5

Hope it helps. It is kind of like in the design career you need to add the extras in to get more marks.

I have not looked at the code (and probably would not understand it if I did). However, there seems to be a lot of truth to this.

My sim is not at level 10 of the career and seldom has problems. But going that extra mile helps. And unlike the design career, the extras do not come out of your pocket. It just takes a little more time.

I see the career as an opportunity to de-uglify sims. (When you look up the word "homely" in the dictionary, you will find a picture of the Bayless clan.) So this becomes an opportunity to make some sims more presentable. Too bad, there is not a Cousin It hairstyle for the Bayles clan, however!

I agree with both of the above - my sim is on level 5 and has had 2 makeovers where the client didn't like it and one of the crazy makeovers.
I've seen posts saying that the sims in Twinbrook look better but seeing them in CAS is often an unpleasant experience. Maybe a sim who looks scary in CAS reads better in the game. But a sim who looks beautiful in CAS may not look good in the game.

I played the stylist up to level 9 so far. More positive than negative reviews, but lately a lot of bad with the message "(sim) did a good job, maybe client is too picky" pop-ups. I take that to mean I provided everything that was asked; maybe it just gets more difficult to please clients the higher up you go.

I try to have my sim 'get to know', then 'discuss fashion', then 'offer make-over'. Could be that the extra effort helps. The Prima Guide says to get your client in a 'good mood' before you begin, and that 'offer fashion advice' can provide a relationship boost. I'm going to also try adding the 'give advice' interaction to see if that seems to make any difference.

There is definitely a hidden Stylist skill, saw it in the xml files. Presumably you develop that by doing more makeovers and by researching fashion at the drafting table.

I believe that with the stylist, since there is really no way the game can evaluate what the player does (unlike Architect, which can at least try to match objects to traits), there is a large random factor, with your odds of a favorable outcome increasing as that stylist skill increases (and possibly other factors too). In other words, you're going to have negative outcomes that have nothing at all to do with what you actually did -- it's just a roll of the dice. But those should decrease withe experience.

People keep saying 'give the customer what they asked for'... how? My stylist only ever offers makeovers. Do sims come up and ask for them autonomously then?

My sim hasn't given many bad makeovers. She gave one or two at the beginning that were classed as her fault. She's level 10 now (I think) and if the customer ever doesn't like a makeover I always get a notice that says something along the lines of, "Mina did a good job but the customer is fussy".

There are stylist "jobs" where a customer requests specific outfits, e.g. 2 new formal outfits and 1 athletic, new hair and makeup. That kind of thing.

If you're level 10 and have never gotten one, you must have a bug :O

When this happens, I get a message saying I didn't give the client the requested makeover.

It can be as simple as just a new hairstyle or just a new hair color, something that I CAN'T mess up.

And I still get the message.

Do you have custom hair? The game can't recognize them.

I don't know if this helps (stylist is, like, the only I haven't tried, I think)... Either way, on one of the loading screens I got the tip "Get to know the sims before you commence with the makeover."-ish something like that...

I dunno, perhaps they like it more if they know your sim better?
If that is the case I'd suggest completing the Celebrity challenge in the charisma skill.

Dunno, does it work?

I don't use custom hair on sims I'm making over.

And again, I even get the message when it says to just change the hair color.

there is a hidden skill called stylist you can level it up by styling sims i think that can help, and no its not true that you need a high level of relationship since my android stylist has only 7 friends and 5 of them are from her household 2 are from work and she doesn't even know any of the sims she do makeovers and she still didn't have any negative outcomes and she's only at level 5 of her career, and its not also true that CC hair doesn't work with makeovers because it does. why don't you guys try to increase painting and stylist skills also you gain exp when you level up a skill on both i think.

One thing I've noticed is that if the list goes something like:
-2 new everyday outfits
-1 new formalwear
-New hairstyle
-1 new athletic wear

Then you have to have to give them a new hairstyle only for their formal outfit. If you change their overall hairstyle, they dislike their makeover. Also, if it's ever just something like just "New hairstyle" or "new formalwear", you can only change the one thing asked for. If you do more, like changing their hair color or makeup, they hate that too.

It's interesting that there's a stylist skill. Perhaps I'll have my sim actually study fashion on the drawing board more often... She's already level 9 though, so I don't know if it's needed. She doesn't do poor makeovers very often, but she does have the artistic trait and a decent painting skill which may also help. A gripe of mine with the stylist career is that they have uniforms. I mean, come on! If someone's a stylist, shouldn't they wear their own clothes instead of a uniform (even if it is designed to be cool and stylish)?

i would have to cancel your theory since im someone who gets carried away with giving makeovers that i overdo almost everything especially if something doesn't look right, and the hair lock is set to all outfits and overall i get really good results and i manage to level up her career to level 6.

Stylists have uniforms? i didn't notice it since my sim styles with her everyday outfit.

Yeah my sim always has something else on other than her everyday clothes in my game.

I noticed, that whenever I do more than asked for I get bad results. Although sometimes when I do exactly what they want, they don't like it anyways. Seems like there is a certain randomness to it as well.

Btw.: Has anyone noticed if the choice of the clothes or the makeup influence the satisfaction of the customer? I wondered, as sometimes they ask for a specific "theme", like "make me look majestic" or so.

Nope -- the game has no idea what clothes look "majestic".

Hm, do you make your Sim go around to other Sims' houses when they want makeovers, or do you just have your Sim go to the fashion place and offer people makeovers there? If you just offer someone a makeover you can do whatever you'd like and they won't (usually) dislike it... Maybe I'm wrong, though.
