Default Opinions on SimBots
After trying for lightyears to find a pink heart-shape cut diamond so my Inventor Sim can build a SimBot, I finally caved and purchased the "My Best Friend" Lifetime Reward instead... And I have to say I was just as dissapointed as I was with the Mummies in World Adventures. The robots do this silly (in a bad way) robot walk that takes them forever to get around, and I think they look ridiculous. I guess I'll be an architect instead.

What are your thoughts on Simbots?

Don't have Ambitions yet, but from what I've heard, I'm not very impressed. I'm a bit confused about why they didn't just call them Servos, though... They seem to be basically the same...

My inventor sim made one but he wasn't really any different from a normal sim other than appearance, not having a hygiene bar and that they eat scrap metal instead of food. I moved him out of my sim's home quite quickly, he just got in the way. Although saying this, TS2 servos weren't much different either but for some reason I still prefer them. Maybe it's because they go around doing chores which my simbot never did. TS1 robots were the best, with their little straw hats for gardening.

EDIT: they're almost the same as servos. The only differences I think are that they age and they don't seem to go around cleaning and gardening and stuff.

I like em, but I guess I didn't have as high expectations of em as some did, heh.

They do not take NEARLY as long to get around as mummies, and outdoors they "fly" (hover really) using foot jets. I think they're as fast as normal sims.

They are more efficient than regular sims, even though they do have sleep and bladder needs, because they don't need to shower or do laundry and they eat scrap, which is nearly instant and always gives the "good meal" moodlet. Also they can easily fill their social need even with nobody around by talking to the food processor If you think their needs should be even less, you can always cheat and buy em Steel Bladder and so on.

Any time they break down, you can reprogram em... which means you can (without cheating) change their traits as often as you want, to match whatever they're currently trying to accomplish... something you can't do with just any sim.

If servos aren't living with meat sims, they don't need kitchens (though it's handy to have an inventing workbench so they can buy scrap), bathroom stuff except toilets, dressers or mirrors, laundry... which means you can design them streamlined high-tech housing that looks very different from a typical Sim domicile.

It's a pity there's no built-in customization, but if you have Supercomputer or Awesomemod, you can put em in CAS and recolor em and customize em in interesting ways, which is more than you could do for Servos For instance, I put firefighter boots on a simbot and it retextured various parts of his body in yellow and black as well as adding the boots. Some people like to go for the full-on android human look, but I actually like the cobbled-together appearance of the S3 servo, so I tend to just dress em enough to be distinctive. If you want a robot with a different look, though, there are already some mods around.

All in all, I think Simbots are interesting enough to be worth having a few of around town

Not sure why people want to get RID of em... they are full-fledged Sims, after all, with hopes and dreams just like any other Sim :O And while they may not be as distinct behaviorally as Servos were, that just makes them more deserving of being treated like the intelligent beings they are, rather than a pile of scrap!

I liked the Sims1 Servo. For Sims2, I had some stuff from SimWardrobe that made my servos behave somewhat like the Sims1 Servo. The Simbot doesn't even do chores...

^^That is the exact opposite of what I've been hearing... and makes much more sense than what I've been hearing... still don't understand why they aren't called Servos, though.

If you have the SuperComputer mod installed or something that allows you to edit a Sim in CAS, edit the Simbot in CAS, ignore the freaky-looking "simbot" that's now in the CAS room (it has blue skin o_0) and age it down to a child. Then use the ageuptonpc cheat on the child Simbot, then age it back up to an Elder. I don't know how well this would work (it could even crash your game 'cause Simbots are supposed to always be Elders and un-CAS-able...) but it's worth a shot.

Also, use TCE to change it's traits to Handy, Neat, Brave, Hydrophobic, and Computer Whiz to truly have a robotic maid. :D

I love them. They add a modern sci-fi futuristic feel to my home.
Seeing as I'm not keen on the name Servo, implying servitude rather than companionship (I will save the name servo for the man-slave I keep shackled in the cellar, k thanks)
The concept reminds me of the movie AI.

The foot-jet locomotion is great, I want that option for all my sims (shoes in CAS mod!)
The one thing I want to see is mods for the bots.
So far I'm great at ideas, but not so skilled with modding.
Here is my idea for simbot heads
taken from the Gladiator

But with bright glowing eyes like these contacts from EsmereldaF
white eyes on bot head

If anyone has a a program I can upload to my brain to learn meshing please pm me. "I know kung-FU."

My current simbot is named Goldie and she was sleeping in my bed
(hey bot ily, but we ain't that close, sorry) so I made her a charging chamber with Wintermuteai1's modded body sculpture (which I love btw).
Before simbotQuarters:
there she is lazing in muh bed like goldie locks

After simbotQuarters:
Took one wall down and tucked it away right inside the beam

Ya gotta love how they emit binary code in their sleep, adorable.

I like them. I'm not to big on the whole sci-fi aspect of the Sims though. I like my towns to be pretty realistic. I had my Sim make one and then use the "my best friend" reward and moved them into a nice house together, with a ghost sim.

I didn't mind their appearance. I would have liked something slightly more human, yet still robotic, such as in Bjork's All is Full of Love video.

You don't find them like that, you have to find them uncut and send them to get cut in the heart-shape.

I never liked the name Servo so I like they are now called Simbots. I love how they are listed as a child of their creator. They do walk a bit slow but not so slow that they are unplayable.

I don't like their colour as it's not metallic enough and I think they should be recolourable without mods.

I hate how sims do the "oh no a Simbot!" action even if the simbot is part of their family.

I find it funny that they can't get a tattoo but can get a massage.

I LOVE them. I must say,I treat them fairly badly though...They always stay home and do the chores or anything else. With my inventor I made the simbot go out almost everyday to get scrap. I never do anything for their LTW though....One of these days I will,I've actually loved one of them a bunch because I used them as a little maid or something and I did reprogram mine. I've gotten the best friend reward every generation for my legacy family. I get my heir and it to move out when they're a teenager and finish up their teenage stage with the simbot to make things a bit easier. I even had to purposely short out one of my simbots before. He had the evil trait and I wasn't having that so I made him take a bath. Needless to say,he's the perfect maid now. But I do love the simbots, they're very useful and I use them for chores or helping the kids with their homework.

I honestly expected a Jetpack Boots mod by now.

I'm very fond of the SimBots, they're a lot more interesting than Mummies because Mummies are inexplicably drawn to dancing. Always. They'll drop their queues for it if they can find a stereo.

I love my simbots and have a married simbot couple. What frustrates me is how they continuously do the "oh no a Simbot!" action to each other. It looks like they are arguing and are about to get a divorce!

lol-- "oh no a simbot, oh wait that's my wife..." someone made a mod to bypass simbot reactions, it's here on MTS. I'm watching A.I. on tv, how à propos!

Best advice ever. I don't mind the appetite, sinc it is filled with scrap, but bodily functions on a bot just baffle me. (Not that I have a simbot yet. My inventor has two pink diamonds but hasn't unlocked gem cuts beyond plumbob.)

Yeah, I've got the mod - cause I don't want the marriage to fall apart but they keep at it! The mods not helping even though I've removed any possible conflicts. Maybe my bots just don't like each other. By the way I love your Gladiator mask idea - an amazing image.

That's odd. I've played a brother and sister simbot living together, and they didn't do that. Maybe it's trait-dependent.

I don't really like simbots, I don't like mummies either. I miss the creatures from the Sims 2 such as zombies, vampires, werewolves, plantsims, etc. they were much more interesting to play with

I really don't like them, I understand that sims 3 is a prequel but they look too steampunk / disneyfied . They also have really strange animations that get old really quick. I think I'll be sticking to regular sims with the servo outfit for now.

For a grungy theme lover kind of people. Steampunk SimBot is great. It's very suitable with the Twinbrook theme and the junkyard.

But for some people who prefer general theme in Sunset Valley, Steampunk SimBot doesn't suit in LCD and eco-friendly era. I prefer SimBot like in I Robot movie. I hope someone can make it.

SimBot need bars are also incorrect. I prefer recharging rather than sleeping (sleeping is unrealistic for non-biological organism). Hunger and Bladders are also unrealistic. SimBot also need hygiene too, although he isn't allowing to have bath or shower, but cleaning using sponge and maintaining body part are necessary.

Basically the thing I hate most about the simbots is that they sleep in beds. I feel it was really lazy on EAxis's part. They should have made some sort of charging station.

There's a mod on here that meshes body sculptor with the functionality of the sarcophogus, but it requires WA. It'd be great if someone could mesh the body sculptor to a regular bed, preferably one with a low energy fulfillment to keep the simbot as inactive as possible for those who want more of a maid/servant rather than an actual sim.

That they are not much different from regular sims should not surprise us. After all both simbots and regular sims are artificial personalities whose traits and actions are programmed and governed by a computer.

I did not particularly like the simbot body, and used Esmeralda's servo suits (available at this site) as a replacement for the body. I think there would be a lot of other possibiliteis for robot body modding: Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet (a retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest)( http://www.hammacher.com/Product/10921?promo=search ), the B9 Robot from Lost in Space ( http://www.hammacher.com/Product/11...=1&promo=xsells ), C3PO, Maria from Metropolis, Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still, the T-800 Terminator, Cybermen from Dr. Who, the ASIMO robot from Honda, the Rosie the Robot Maid from the Jetsons, and a whole host of famous robots.

I guess the good news for modders is that it would only require one morph, although a fat robot could be rather funny...

I reprogrammed my simbot to have the neat trait and the gardening trait. So it will clean house and garden if I so instruct it. I have also given it the handiness trait, so it repairs broken plumbing and upgrades items.

Have you evern had a simbot talk to a regular sim? -- the things simbots want to talk about are hilarious (eg grades of oil). Still, they would rather carry on a conversation with the microwave.

Given that they are hydrophobic, I was sort of hoping that they would short out if they gardened while the sprinker was going. If they have the neat trait, they wash their hands after using the toilet, which should also cause them to short out.

My current family has a simbot, and when they die off, the sole survivor will be the Simbot, eventually, I will have him manufacture a Simbot Wife.
