Has anyone had a successful wedding. I tried once and I couldn't get people to eat or even sit down during the ceremony. Also how does someone leave someone at the alter? Do they get that as a wish? I had such failure doing a wedding I never bothered to do it again. Anyone have the tips for a successfull wedding?

The first wedding I did, nobody liked it. All the following weddings went off without a hitch.

People don't sit down for the ceremony even if you set out chairs. If you have your sims sit down, when the actual ceremony takes place, they stand up. I hate Sims 3 weddings. No wedding arch, no dresses, no cake, no champagne to toast. Ugh.

Because relationships are two-sided now, it's harder to get left at the alter. Either one sim needs to be in a very bad mood or have committment issues. Someone with committment issues needs a higher relationship to accept the marriage. So your sims would need to get engaged and keep the relationship at the minimum threshold for marriage. The person without CI would then prompt for the marriage.

As for tips, it's really very easy.

Television or a stereo and food. Try to keep all the sims in the yard or in one room so they socialize.

The make the jilt happens make one of "theto be married" sims not go to venue. I remember when I had two newly engaged sim couples in my household. I made one throw a wedding party and married his partner.
Once the wedding guests left the two engaged copules that did not get married had the moodlet "Missed own wedding" or something to that effect. I was like WTH?

I did not know that if you had two engaged couples in the same household and did not marry both at the same time you throw a wedding party the non-married couple would get the "miss own wedding" moodlet.
I fix it though. To my recollection, I made the groom throw a wedding party the next day, they got married and all was wedding bliss for these two couples.

"Missed own wedding" that must be EA mocking their players. why else would they make it so hard for sims to get married.

i tried making a wedding work ones, without succes...suprise, suprise...now i just make them do worthless private weddings...yey

My wedding parties have all been successes in terms of guests saying they had a good time and fulfilling the 'have great party' wish. But for me personally, TS3 weddings fail. Like CleoSombra said, we don't have any of the wedding items like the cake, champagne or the arch to make the party feel like a wedding.
And the stupid Sims spend all their time stomping their feet while they cluster the front door.
So I usually just go with the private wedding and skip the party.

I guess you could say my Sims' wedding was a disaster. I just got the wedding Romanza pack or whatever you call it, and it comes with Cake and wedding dresses and party favors and bridesmaid clothes and even a chocolate fountain!! But why is it a fail? Because the cake's part of a buffet(which is bugging me) and the chocolate fountain is just a stupid decoration. Anyways, enough ranting. I spent about 30 minutes getting Jacob and Olivia's beach venue to look more wedding appropriate only to find, on wedding day, not only did my game crash after a lovely evening, just before it crashed Olivia kissed her brother-in-law, Kyle right in front of her new husband, but apparently he wasnt too interested in that since he was eating from the buffet -.- . Anywho, after the crash I got mad and decided to download a wedding church instead so I wouldnt spend another 30 minutes on another wedding. Couldnt find one, but when I decided to try playing a downloaded neighborhood, Capo Espinos(or something like that) I found a church!!! I almost cried I was soo happy. So I copied it to the library and went to Riverview and placed it, then I realized I didnt really like how it was set up(I really wanted to use the chairs with the bows from Wedding Romanza) so I spent another 30 minutes gutting the house and redecorating to suit my tastes and now I'm back to the wedding. I believe the game hates me...that or my computer is evil.

Heheh yeah S3 weddings really suck, even without the arch (how hard would it be to make the interaction AND an arch where they just did the same animation under it?) and the special objects sims don't even sit down for a wedding which they did in TS2. Who stands in the middle of a wedding?

I think the hardest part is getting the bride and the groom into the exact spot where you want the wedding to take place. It's easy if both are playable, but not if one is not.

My guess is that we will see a return of the wedding arch, because wedding's are popular and now they are kind of lame.

Yeah it's nearly impossible to get them where you want them, I bet we'll see the return of the arch but that is really something that should have been in the game already no excuses.

haha, my sims got married in front of a flower pot. I couldnt find an arch or a preacher stand thingy, so I just put down a huge flower pot and am going to call it an 'imagination arch'. lol

I really find it annoying how EA makes so much damn money off of the stupidest shit. I mean, really, was it necessary to keep out all the wedding stuff JUST so they could make a stuff pack for it? Waste waste waste. I NEVER buy the stuff packs. It's half the price of an expansion pack, christ!

In all honesty, I gave up having weddings in the Sims 3.
There's no arch, like others have mentioned, and it just doesn't have the same glow, at least in my opinion, that Sims 2 did. So now my Sims propose, and get married in a matter of ten minutes.

I try to have a marriage party, but only really due to a storyline. If theres no reason in-game for them to throw a party, then it's a private wedding. For example, when playing the my tribe challenge my sims have to throw a wedding party because its tradition that both parents must be present, as well as siblings.

I'm having a glitch with weddings at the moment. One sim selects the "get married" option while having a party, and the exchange rings action never appears. I've had a failed wedding party moodlet as well as a severe relationship decrease because of this. Edit: My sims can still get married, it just usually takes several tries before it happens. Private weddings aren't a problem however.

My tips for a good wedding - food, drinks, music, everyone in the same room/area so that socialisation happens. Music increases the chance of socialisation because people will randomly dance together. Also, if you're going to serve food make sure you provide extra tables and chairs in the same room, otherwise the guests will split up - some to the living room, others the dining room, etc. Make sure that enemies of Sims are not invited, or guest's enemies. Also a bad idea to invite people who are almost dead - the party score will take a hit, as someone mentioned.

At one of my Sim's weddings, 3 people died. Talk about an epic failure of a party.

Honestly, I'm tempted to go back to Sims 2, if it werent for the ugly baby syndrome for unique sims, and the loading...oh and the no self-customization-in-a-matter-of-seconds thing..basically, when I got the sims 3 I wanted an improved Sims 2, not a whole new take-some-of-this-and-that game. Like, when I first saw the beach venue I wanted a wedding on a dock and I wanted the sims to jump into the water after their I-do's. BUT, that cant happen because: a) there's no arch and b) you cant swim in the freaking lake. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE!!! Who simply fishes in a lake?!?! Rant again..sigh..I'm sorry I have anger issues when it comes to blatant ignorance towards consumers and sheer stupidity.

Anyways, getting back on topic(I love to rant dont I?), I'm looking into creating my own arch, of course it'd be a mere decoration, because I havent any coding knowledge, but I am willing to try. I've put off trying to create for quite some time now, since Sims 2 base game days.

My sims go from meeting to married in four hours, so I've got no fanfare involved. xD
So I'm not really missing the wedding parties or arch or whatever because I just never would have used them in the first place.

Well I apparently have an OCD, I HAVE to have wedding photos. I have to have baby photos, i have to have toddler photos, i have to have children photos..well you get the picture. Even since I saw in the Sims 3 opening video, the part with the old couple kissing and the photos of them when they were young on the wall. I like that home-y feeling, this is why i've never gotten past marriage for my simmies!!! HORRIBLE WEDDING PHOTOS, why cant they be like the old married couple, WHY!?! I'll tell you why, because my sims are retarded and love to do things that look too stupid for pictures, not to mention the wedding arch issue.

I do usually take a video of the toddlers playing in the toybox the day they age up, so that's kind of a tradition, but that's all really. I'm not big on the huge wedding party thing because it's just like...why? (I'm a loner in real life, which might have something to do with it.)
And even if I took pictures, I wouldn't display them. I've got too much CC for that stuff. D:

I miss having weddings, fail or not. Nobody has gotten married in my game since Ambition came around, my only hope for a ceremony is the Goth family, but those two (Mortimer and Bella) are still just dating.

I have ALWAYS have successful weddings. They won't sit, but if you use the pause buttone a bit you may get the pics you want. Guess I am just good at this aspect of the game.

Nope, you just have to make sure that sim a is extremely alluring to sim b... Then private wedding appears under romantic options.

Weddings... never the same without the slow dance. In TS2, I didn't mind the arch as much but it was a focal point of the wedding if I used it, and I did love how it summoned the guest to sit in front of it to watch the ceremony.

I foolishly thought, for some odd reason that TS3 would have like a Justice of the Peace like option... Someone to wed your sims... And all three would become closer. But heck, I have to build in build mode a wedding arch that serves no purpose beyond making me feel better now that weddings have no intimacy and really serve no purpose. The slow dance, that dramatic I shall woohoo you until the break of dawn dip... Just gone.

I'm a private wedding girl... 5 seconds after engagement they are switching rings. Another problem I have with weddings is attempting to make a honey moon out of WA... My sims are either stuck at a camp site, unless they have been there before or I cheated, or in a house... The latter of which I feel they could have just stayed home.

Beyond quests and tombs WA doesn't have much to offer. So you take your honey bun to the nectary... Taste wine and talk s***. That's one day what about the other two?

Don't get me wrong, I love WA in its own way but I don't feel like it is a vacation... Especially for my newly wed sims. It is just extra work they could have avoided by staying home and simply asking for the next 2 days off...

My last wedding I held went pretty well I think, but I tend to be non-traditional. They got married in their swimsuits on the beach.
I wanted it to happen at sunset, but people took their sweet time getting to the place where they exchanged rings. And then everyone danced the night away on the beach. Worked pretty well for me. :D

I take my sims on vacation to the WA destination, but they hardly do any quests as I find them slightly boring and repetitive. I like to take them sightseeing, get them to practice picture taking and as a bonus they have nice pictures to display in their homes. Love when they look at the pictures on the wall and then do this "fond memories" animation. Also, what's a tourist without souvenirs? They buy everything there is to buy, chests, scooter, vases, nectars, gems, snake basket, receipe books, tents, nectar press, cookie machine, incense burners, exotic fruits and seeds. I think of the base camp as a guest house, and when they eat food at the restaurant I get them to choose local dishes only.

I do the same, Crocobaura. I pretend they are on honeymoon in the WA France destination. Ignore all wishes for adventures, there is no fun for the sim. I really dislike how hard to find fun for Sims in Sims 3. Just noticed not all sims have fun dancing. Sucks.

All my official weddings go well, except for one. Had a meteor shower happen and lost 3 sims. That was funny. I prefer using group and have them go to the church for a kind of private wedding, only with close friends. Then the club the rest of the night.

Personally, having a wedding party doesn't add much for sims getting married. Party or private, all the same. I do wish the relationships were not the same for each sim, doesn't allow for surprises too much.

Okay, having some disappointments with throwing weddings and other things missed from Sims 2, I can't go back. I love the open hood too much, love having my sims "in the streets".

That's the one thing that keeps me playing TS3. I love the open hood even with its flaws. I have a problem with loading screens... The lack of them in TS3 is enough to keep me from downgrading... For now... I just play life stories when I really can't take the monotony.
