I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. I tried searching but I can't find anything that really relates to what I want to do via google and what not.

My apologies for the moderators if this causes any inconveniences.

I'm trying to build a lot that is essentially a shop house. The first level will be a store, pub, bookstore...etc.. essentially a rabbit hole.
With the second level as the living quarters or a residential area.

Can this be achieved without using Jynx rabbit hole rugs?

I notice the community buildings in bridgeport has combined several into one, so I thought they may have changed the build tool or something.

Any advise would be appreciated.

As far as I know it is not possible to combine residential with rabbit hole functionality. Residential overrules all other functions. But you can have multiple rabbitholes on one community lot, either using "rugs" or the rabbithole buildings themselves. You can see that in the original Sunset Valley, where the theatre and grocers are.

I haven't tried myself if the other sims go to work in these, but these are rabbitholes that can be placed to a lot that is marked residential.

Ahh... thanks all. i guess i will have to go download the rugs and give them a try. On a sidenote, I notice the LN "parliament" like building is now rabbit holes for 3 careers.

Are we able to create our own rabbit holes like that w/o using rugs or the pre-mades?

With the rugs you can make any combination you wish. For example...

Business-police-restaurant

theatre-restaurant

grocery store-gym-criminal place

etc....

I love the rugs, they allow me to build my town my way
I ran into a similar problem though: I created this community lot and assigned it to be a library (a non rabbithole communitylot), then I placed the rabbit hole rug for the police station on it, cause I wanted this lot to contain two buildings: the library AND the police station. However, when I go into Edit Town mode I can select the lot and it says library, but when I go into lifemode and select "View town" (or whatever it's called exactly), the lot only appears to be a police station. So there's "no library in town".
Does anyone know if I need a special set of rugs for community lots or is what I'm trying to do just not possible?

Well, when I place a rug, the little circle from Map View comes up as whatever that rug is, and it may override any other setting. So I guess the game thinks that the Police are more important than the library Although if you place multiple rugs, they should all show up on that building. Haven't tried that though.

Yes, the (red) rabbithole map tags will override the (blue) lot map tags.
