Don't know about autofeeding, but I do know that TwoJeffs' Sim Blender will allow you to fill and clean pet bowls without actually having to go through the motions. I use this a lot because my dimwit sims always place the bowl with the front to the wall (so the pet can't use it) after cleaning it.

From Simonut: Here is my take on if Sims 2 is losing popularity or not, If you offer or give a monkey a banana will he take it even if the banana is green or yellow ? Whatever new games EA put out there like the Sims3 some human somewhere will buy it.

I've had pets come close to starving because the bowl was facing the wrong way. Never had any taken by the cops, though.

I have heard of the hack Kneon Knight was referring to. Me, I put the bowl in an open area, so no matter how the Sim faces it, the pet can still eat from it.

Sometimes they're finicky and you have to teach them to eat pet food; sometimes the sims put the bowl down wrong. You can go into buy mode and check, but if you have room it's simpler to put the bowl somewhere that's accessible from all sides. If the pet won't eat out of it under those conditions when it's hungry, you need to address it.

I'm actually annoyed at how seldom I have to fill bowls, as it means I can't get into a routine of having the kid always feed the pet first thing in the morning. I don't want to overfeed the bird, for example, and have it die right young as was always happening in Sims1. I have to remember to check the bowl by clicking on it periodically. In the bird cage, I refill when the cost gets back up toward $20. The pet food bowl is cleaned and refilled when I get both options - if only "clean" and "Call to eat" appear, there's still food and I leave it. Even bowls I've left outside, expecting strays to eat from them, go several days without needing to be filled.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.
