Default Toddlers on Community Lots
I never ever thought I'd be interested in taking toddlers to community lots, but that has changed. The custom 'hood I'm playing has several toddlers in the second generation. Most of the parents are good friends, and I find my self wanting to see their toddlers interacting now, rather than having to wait until they're kids.

So, I've spent much of the afternoon creating a community lot that's toddler friendly. It has toy boxes, dollhouses, splash pools, a tub, a fridge, and cribs.

I'd rather have been able to put toddler blankets down instead of cribs, so they could put themselves down for a nap when necessary, but the toddler blankets weren't available in Buy Mode. Anyone know a way around this?

Also, when I first tested the lot, I discovered that bottles aren't available from the fridge for toddlers either. If I put high chairs on the lot, will it be possible to feed them then?

I think being able to have play dates at the park will be so much fun, if I can take care of the food issue. (And toddler blankets would be a nice bonus!) Who else takes toddlers to community lots? Is it something you do a lot?

That sounds like a nice idea! Having play dates at parks would be awesome.

Thank you! I'm not much of a SimPE user, but that looks simple enough.

It's a very old tutorial, though. Any reason to think the procedure may have changed at all since then?

Considering that the tutorial pre-dated a couple of EPs and versions of SimPE, I think the question is worth asking.

But, since I should back up before trying it anyway, it's worth a shot. Thanks again!

ETA: Actually, I figured out how to do it without having to close my game and load SimPE. (Lazy me.) I simply changed the lot zoning to residential, placed the items I wanted (toddler blankets and small highchairs with bottomless mush bowls that can be used autonomously), changed the lot back to community, and voila!

Now I'm thinking about setting the lot up like a campground at which all my playable families can gather for an unofficial group vacation. Great way for the kids and toddlers to get to know each other, as well as the few adults who aren't quite friends yet! :D

Darby,
Weren't we allowed to take toddlers to lots before NL or was it before OFB?
I seemed to remember before I reinstall my later EPs I had some community lot options to place all the kid related stuff on the lots without cheats. Like the cribs, and high-chairs etc. Maybe if you used Nunemor's Neighborhood/EP hack thingy you could try out the objects that way? Sorry, I am blank this moring. You know his hack that allows you to just play certain EPs. Wouldn't that eliminate the need for another hack?
If you could just play the game previous to the EP that changed everything that allowed toddlers on the lot.
That way you may be able to test the objects and not have to revert to an old hack or tut. that doesn't apply to later EPs.

I have no idea, because it never occurred to me to try this until now.

The program you're thinking of is the AnyGame Starter. I've got it, but don't have it installed, at the moment. Don't think I'll need it anyway. The lot zone change cheat worked great for allowing me to get the needed items on-lot.

Still needs a bit of testing, though. I did a little last night with two kids, but have yet to test with toddlers since I added the toddler blankets and special highchairs. Had an odd traffic jam at the edge of the lot as the family was trying to leave, so that is going to require some investigation too.

I don't think toddlers have ever been allowed to travel off their home lot without hacks.

Another option is the enabling sims to access their inventory and catalouge on community lots and using the buyable baby bottle and sippy cup. Let me locate those hacks for you.

YES, please!

@omglo
Yes, hacks are definitely needed for this. I believe there are hacks that allow one to take toddlers along with the rest of the family, but at this point, I'm using a teleporter to "summon" the toddler(s) to the community lot once I get another playable there.

Sorry I should have quoted. My post was responding to the person who thought there was a time where parents could take their toddlers places with them without using hacks.

Sorry to take so long in reply on this, but its gotten to the point with me that I can't remember what is a part of the game and what I modified. Anyway I think you'll need this to allow the sims to access the catalouge on community lots:

The buyable baby bottle can be downloaded here at mod the sims, but I'll have to load my game to let you know which or rely on one of our fellow simmers answer that question.

use the sims 2 catergorizer by simwardrobe to get your toddler things in use in community lots. As far as the taking toddlers to lots what i've been doing is using the simlogical meeting controller items to be used on community lots via the catergorizer and i teleport toddlers to the lots that way and just have their parents show up at the lots for playdates and such. When i want just one toddler however i would like my sim parents to be able to drive them places and idk how to do that at all. Any ideas?

You see the Social Worker loading/unloading babies and toddlers from her van. Why can't the parents do the same?

The meeting controller is one of my favorite ways to move sims around and I've never had any problems from it. There is a hack that allows toddlers to get into cars and go to community lots:

Also have a look at this hack since this is going to be a community lot:

There is supposed to be an add-on to Dickhurt's hacks work with certain EPs, doesn't work for everyone.

Thanks for digging that up, A.G.Doren. I appreciate you taking the time to find that for me!

I must say, though, that after looking at that modder's page, I trust neither the mod nor the modder. The mod, because it was never officially updated for all EPs (and lots of people in Comments reported issues), and the modder because he didn't do much (if any) testing of his own mods, rather relying on downloaders to test FOR him.

Going the lot zoning route does work, at least, but I may also look into re-categorizing stuff with the Sims2Categorizer. Thanks for that tip, dwn2ridehtchck1. I haven't used that program before, but I do have it. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I was thinking I might have something that might be able to do this, but couldn't put my finger on it. ("Categorizer"? Ya think? )

I DO figure that link you gave to the SimPE tutorial is probably fine, Extensa, but as grateful as I am that SimPE exists and love what all it can do, whenever there's a good alternative to SimPE for an issue, it's usually a more user-friendly option. If I had more experience with SimPE, I might not feel that way, but I really don't. (Have much experience with SimPE.)

Why do you feel the need to push me so hard on this tutorial? I'm responsible for my own preferences, and if I'm not inclined to take a particular recommendation or piece of advice, there's absolutely no reason to take it personally. I get the impression you feel slighted somehow, but that is not something I'm responsible for.

I kinda felt that way too, but a few people here recommended it. I've got all EPs and a number of SP and its caused me zero problems and its been handy for so many things. As long as you make a back up of your game you should be safe.
