Default Sims gone missing without a trace. Dead or alive?
Hello folks, I'm unfortunately having a serious problem with my game.

Sims around my town, in different households, are going missing by the numbers. At first it wasn't something that I noticed right away, but after skimming through new memories in the scrapbook one night I became aware of a serious issue.

I'm currently playing with a two person household and upon recent discovery I've noticed this...

Now sure, at first glance it might not seem like anything out of the ordinary. But here is when things start to get a little freaky.... the supposedly "dead" Sim leaves without any left over reminiscences of them ever existing.

There is no on-screen notification when the Sim "dies", nor is there any tombstone to be found. The Sim is gone from any other Sim's friends list, and other Sims close to them have no memories of them ever existing. Nraas Master Controller is unable to find any trace of the Sim and they are not in any household. Another interesting fact is that the Sim is still depicted as alive within the viewed family tree.

Both Sims in my household are getting these plagued memories of Sims supposedly dying while seemingly disappearing from the game completely at the same time. So far 3 Sims have gone MIA due to this strange occurrence.

I am now afraid to continue playing my current game in fear that my town will be wiped out by this mysterious plague. Please help.

Have you worked through the problem guide to rule out a custom content problem? Also, can you recover the missing sims with Overwatch?

Yes, I've tried with Overwatch and unfortunately it was a no go. I've worked through that guide many times to rule out any problematic CC and seem to get that annoying message appear no matter what I do saying that I've installed an unofficial game modification that does not match the current version and so on. However the game runs perfectly fine most of the time despite that.

I've just got back into playing again, after being away from the Sims for a few months, and after hearing the announcement of Pets. I'm still using all the same mods that I was before, all update of course. Wasn't until after I installed Generations I started encountering the issue.

Which Story Progression engine are you running ?

What you are describing sounds like the death of an inactive sim who has not been flagged as "protected" : Only protected sims leave urnstones when they die.

Since the sim appears in a family tree, you should still be able to list them in MasterController using one of the "Type of Sim" filters (perhaps "Dead" or "Local Minisim").

Try running a "Status \ Personal" on that sim and see whether they are indeed dead.

The only "Story Progression engine", or mod, that I am running is ShimrodsXMLSP.

I'm very well aware that one of the cons of story progression is the death of inactive Sims from other households. This I can normally deal with, however, Sims from other households have been dying at an alarming rate to the point where it's rather ridiculous.

Thanks to your above comment I was actually able to find my so called "missing" Sims through navigating Nraas and found that they indeed have died.

Besides being completely absent from any former relationships, the game doesn't actually register as them being a full fledged ghost. There is no urn anywhere to be found even if I switch over to the dead Sim's household. Any in-game menus and family trees depict the Sim as still being alive, the Sim is not shown as a ghost.

Here's the stranger part... I was successfully able to invite over a so called "dead" Sim, using Nraas, and they appeared in front of my doorstep well and alive. They weren't appearing as a ghost.

Thankfully I've been able to successfully resolve the issue by inviting over the "dead" Sim, adding them to my household, using "Force kill", and then reviving them and moving them back into their proper household.

I now know how I can effectively resolve the issue..., but my question is how can I stop it from happening again?

Use a Story Progression engine that doesn't deal with your sims in that manner.

Perhaps Shimrod101 has a flavor available that turns off whatever section of EA Story Progression is producing that effect.
