This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise, Into the Future
What are the max amount of subfolders you can have in your Mods/Packages file?
Hi there can anyone tell me the maximum amount of subfolders you can have in the Mods/Packages folders?
I've already read the Custom Content FAQ's and I know that the resource config. file shows you can have 4.
If I edited the config. file to accomodate more subfolders e.g Core, Build, Buy, CAS, Patterns and Poses would the game still read all the CC in the My Documents/Electrontic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages directory?

Thanks

Edit: I'm preparing for a new custom built laptop-my backup Mods folder is unorganised and messy and I want to get everything subfoldered ready to try combining package files. So I'd kinda like as many subfolders as poss!

It's easy enough to find out - edit your config file to add more levels, create one set of subfolders to that same depth, put a mod like NoIntro in it, and see if it works.

Thanks I will try!
Would I have to edit all platforms of the config file-e.g Overrides, Packages, Test and Probation or just add the corresponding levels to the Package bit?

I would think just packages, unless you want more levels in the other categories too.

If you download the FrameworkSetup.zip (link in the Install Wiki FAQ), the Resource.cfg there is already set up to work with subfolders. Maximum the game would read is 4 "deep", and that's why the .cfg is setup that way, with that many asterisks.

Remember that there's a difference between "vertical" and 'horizontal" subfolders - try imagining the folder structure as a flowchart:

------------------------------------------Packages
-------- 1. Build ---------------- 2. Buy -------------- 3. CAS -------------------- 4. Hacks
1a. Walls 1b. Windows -- 2a.Tables 2b. Chairs -- 3a. Hairs 3b. Clothes -- 4a. Core mods 4b. Tuning mods

Horizontally, you can have as many subfolders as you like. Build, buy, CAS, hacks, patterns, bananas, whatever.
Vertically, you can only have four subfolders by default. So, Packages(0)/Build(1)/Doors and windows(2)/Doors(3)/Double doors(4) would be fine; "Packages(0)/Build(1)/Doors and windows(2)/Doors(3)/Double doors(4)/HugeLunatic(5) wouldn't work. But, of course, if you've hit the latter limit, you can edit your Resource.cfg to allow for more vertical subfolders.

What I lack in decorum, I make up for with an absence of tact.

Thanks everybody
So let me see if I understand things correctly-
We go documents/The Sims 3/Mods-in the Mods folder there is a folder called Packages and next to that is the config file.
Inside Packages there can only be 4 separate folders e.g Build, Buy, CAS and Core-is that right so far?
But inside each of the 4 folders I can have subfolders e.g Doors, Windows, Tables, Chairs, Hair, Skins, Nraas and CmarNYC Mods-Without changing the resource config file or moving it?
I hope I understood that right. . .

Wrong way round. Inside the Packages folder, you can have as many folders as you like. Inside those folders, you can have as many folders as you like - but only four "layers" of folders.

Sorry everyone I'm a a pain I know
(you wouldn't think I've been Simming for as long as I have!)
Ok am I getting closer?
E.G
Mods/Packages, Resource.config
Open Packages (0)
Core (1)----Open-----Tuning (2)----Open-----Nraas or CmarNYC (3)------Open------MasterController (4)
CAS (1)----Open-----Hair (2)-----Open------Male (3)-----Open------Medieval (4) (But there could be 2a/b/c/d/e and a 3a/b/c/d as long as they were only 4 folders deep?)

E.G

------------------------------------------Packages (0)
-------- 1. Build ---------------- 2. Buy -------------- 3. CAS -------------------- 4. Hacks (1)
1a. Walls 1b. Doors -- 2a.Tables 2b. Chairs -- 3a. Hairs 3b. Clothes -- 4a. Core mods 4b. Tuning mods (2)
1c.Double Doors 1d. Single Doors --2c. Modern Tables 2d. Medieval Tables --3c. Male Hairs 3d. Female Hairs -- 4c. CmarNYC 4d. Nraas (3)
1e.Spanishdoor 2x1 -- 2e. King Arthurs Table -- 3e. CherubCurlsforMen -- 4e.Master Controller. (4)

Is this right

From Game Help:TS3 Organizing Custom Contentwiki
Quote:
With a resource.cfg like this, you can have up to 4 subfolders under the Packages folder, for example: Mods\Packages\Hair\Female\Short\Creator

I also have the sample on my Journal, ignore the first part of the paths that say Program Files as this was written back in 2009. Before we use the Documents path. But mine is just 2 levels deep http://modthesims.info/journal.php?do=showentry&e=4369

I couldn't see it flat. So, yes, that's about right.
