This user has the following games installed:
Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Generations
Store Content can't be installed
I have 1.47, loaded via Superpatch method.
I was experiencing crash to desktop problems but that stopped when I totally disabled Origin.
I am using CC Magic and Twallan's mods
I had used Delphy's Multi Installer before I got CC Magic
I use Delphy's Dashboard to scan CC before loading it via CC Magic. Questionable stuff gets deleted before it ever gets to CC Magic.
I have 2.7 GHz quad core
6G RAM
Vista SP2 fully updated
3400 series Radeon - I know, not much of a video card, but its actually been running really well, graphics-wise, up to now, despite the Sims3 Graphic Card Wiki saying Sims 3 won't run on this card. Anyway this is not a graphics issue.
I cannot load store content in the game by any method I know of. I have tried:
Installing via Launcher, it says it did it but the objects do not appear in-game and when you run the Launcher again, as long as CC Magic hasn't been run in the interim (because CC Magic automatically moves files out of Downloads to it's own Store Sims3Package directory) Launcher detects the files in Downloads and offers to install them AGAIN. They no longer appear under the Installed Content tab in launcher.
I tried to take a Store content file that I knew contained only a single item (to simplify things) and used Delphy's multi-installer on it to repackage it as a .package file. Then I gave that file to CC Magic to install and CC Magic doesn't recognize it as valid content (you get a giant question mark displayed on the file) and you still can't find it in game.
I don't know for sure, but I THINK Delphy's Multi-installer should handle simple objects even if its store content. I know it doesn't handle worlds (Riverview, btw, is one of the things that has disappeared). I'm not sure whether or not it will handle lots. I THOUGHT it would handle anything else though, and its what I had been using to install stuff before I got CC Magic. It seemed to work in the past but it doesn't now, at least not for store content.
I have done a lot of the stuff in various tutorials that's supposed to help with this and so far nothing has worked, but not very systematically. I'm starting over now, but if someone could answer some general questions for me it might help me get this done. I'm pretty discouraged by now.
1) I'm using CC Magic so none of my files are where the tutorials say they are. Also at least one of Twallan's mods has to be uninstalled in a particular way or it crashes or corrupts your saved games, so I don't want to just jerk the whole framework out if I can help it. Will just disabling my CC in CC Magic have the same effect as physically removing it from the EA defined directories? After all, the CC is ALREADY not physically present in EAs file structure. If I disable it all in CC Magic, clear all the caches (which I've done multiple times but heigh-ho, I'll do it again) and then rebuild and run as usual, will that effectively remove all CC? I THINK it should because I'm pretty sure anything that is disabled is excluded from the rebuild.
2) There are several tutorials that tell me to remove all my .ebc and .dbc files. I'm not sure of the effect this will have on the game, plus that was in relation to an EA upgrade that broke the game a couple of years ago, which is almost certainly NOT my issue. Do I need to do this ANYWAY and if I do, what does that mean for any saved games and sims that I have archived? Especially since I'm using CC Magic, I'm not sure of any interactions there.
3) It LOOKS like CC Magic installs at least some files in such a way as to make the Launcher think IT did the installation - at least a lot of stuff shows up as "installed content" in the launcher that I know for a fact I actually installed via CC Magic. I posted a question about this on the CC Magic forum but last I checked I didn't have an answer, so if anybody knows anything about the workings of CC Magic in this regard, I would appreciate it. In particular I have noticed that 8 lots (the only lots I have ever installed) that I installed via CC Magic a few days ago show up in Launcher as installed content, and there are a lot more files Launcher thinks it installed than I actually used the Launcher to install. I haven't checked every single file but there are a lot of files that show up both in Launcher and in CC Magic - is that the normal way it works? I had thought anything installed through the Launcher wouldn't appear in CC Magic at all.
My preference is to work with CC Magic and the existing structure it has created for my CC. If I just rename the current EA Sims3 directory sure, that'll create a new clean directory, but as soon as I run CC Magic to start working with the CC to find the bad CC (I'm guessing it MUST be bad CC) everything changes. If disabling CC inside CC Magic is good enough then I'm set, I can just disable all the objects and leave the mods and start re-enabling CC until things break again (assuming Store Content can be installed by the Launcher again once all the CC is gone).
So any advice about how to start this process and keep CC magic in the loop would be most appreciated. Otherwise I don't know where to find things. I'm already concerned that anything that wasn't store content but was actually installed via the Launcher will be permanently lost - as I don't know where the originals of those files are, nor, if there is some interaction between CC Magic and Launcher, which might be duplicated in both CC Magic and Launcher. There are a whole lot more .package files with inscrutable names in the DcBackup directory than there are objects identified within Launcher as Installed Content... probably twice as many. But maybe I just have to lose those things...
Sorry to go on so long and I apologize if I'm "jumping the line" or something but if I can get a little bit of additional guidance about these issues before I get started working my way through the whole long process it might at least help unconfuse me. I am REALLY discouraged about now.
Sorry, and thanks in advance.
