Default hello roommates
Anyone know much about roommates? My single mother sim didn't have enough for bills so I turned on the roommate option. I put an extra bed in the bedroom and the next morning five people showed up.

Am I just supposed to ''dismiss'' people until I get the number I want?

I thought it was kind of funny and stuffed the bedroom with bunks but just wondering if it's a glitch.

There is two types of roommates. One is a residential home with a roomie helping pay bills, nice income. Go to tthe smartphone, real estate and traveling services, roommate service, enable roommates, how many and what gender. That will stop all the sims coming everyday since the game generates 7 sims for any rental property.

With an apartment (which I am loving right now, just had to learn how to set it up) the game generates 7 sims, all must live in the building and there should be room for them. My sim is renting a new apt I built to accommodate 7 sims and I really like it. Some are a little messy, but others are neat and frugal. They love coming to my sim's apt, and it has a humorous atmosphere. Sadly, you can't use roommate services in an apartment or dorm.

Edited for misinformation on the number of Sims.

Do they help around the house as well as with bills? I love the sound of this :D

Slightly off topic, but it fits this thread best.
I don't have UNI yet, but has anyone tried sending two or more sims from the same household? How does it work? Can you control both or do you have to pick one? Do you get roomies as well as the sims you've sent?

I have a question too about the apartments. I used to have Late night installed, but removed it to make space for UL so the game would run smoother.
In my memory it had these black spaces where the NPC live. I built an apartment and I put the room locater (hide room or something) in the NPC's apartment. But no NPC spawned there.

What DID happend whas that everyday since 3/4 people randomly joined my 1 sim household. I could actually control them. So I made them move out obviously.
I removed the room locater and the next day 8 random people were spawned as my roommates. This time I couldn't control them they did have a 'roommates' interaction tab.

What I initially wanted is to live in a house connected to another house. Like a townhouse feel. But I wanted the inside of the other house to be black. So my computer didn't need to load a lot of images of the NPC's living there.

Now i'm thinking that might not be possible, but is there any other way of having less than 8 roommates in an apartment? Or is it better to just set the lot to regular residential and ask another sim to move in. and asign the other house to her/him? That would suck as my sim is a starter, and having her buy an expensive house would mean I would be cheating. Waiting for her to have more money would suck too, because she needs to have atleast 3 kids or so. So the apartment would become too small.

I couldn't find any answers about this. Really frustrated and confused because I don't know the way the apartments work now. Any help would mean a lot!

Lewisb - Oh, i didn't know there were two types of roomates or that I could choose how many. I somehow missed that one. I enabled them in the smart phone and then 5 showed up the next morning, lol. I'll be sure to check the number from now on!

gemly - actually, I was wondering the same thing since I'll have twins that will go to college in the distant future.

Gemly and Annie: You can send as many sims from the same household as you want, as long as they are YA or older. You can control them all at Uni, just sending all of them makes the price go up XD. You get enough roomies to fill up your dorm/household (8 sims) but you obviously can't select them and they are pudding faces -_-

Gemly- Teddie, if you have a regular, single family , house a roomie can be very profitable. The one household I was playing was a regular house and the roommate brought in 4k per week.

When you send Sims from your active household, you can send up to 8 because that is how large your dorms can be. See, there's a theme of households must have a total of 8 Sims in an apartment or dorm lot.

Annoellyn, it is quite useful if you get a good roomie. They will help out if you get Sims that are not slobs. They will attempt to fix things too which is not always good, might come home to a dead roomie. Read that on the forums.

Just thoroughly read Bubblegum's post and I am sorry but I don't think that is possible with an apt lot. Maybe from Edit Town you can change the lot type to residential while they live there and the use the roommate service to taylor the way you want it. Then your sim will be responsible for the expenses of a home. Then again you will have the roomie help pay for it. Like I said, the other household I was playing the roomie paid 4k a week for a little 3 bedroom house.

Lewisb40, thanks That's a lot of money! Do you know what job that sim had?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have NRaas MasterController, and I have it set to allow more than 8 sims per household. Any idea if the 8 sims limit will still count, or would I end up with endless roomies?

That's the thing I am not satisfied about the system, they don't leave the house. I have to group up with them to get them out. Twallan said that he saw they have an infinite amount of money to spend and that is something he wants to change.

At the moment I don't think you will get more than the normal game mechanics will give. You would have to add more manually. Also you should have enough places for them to sleep, if you are talking about an apartment lot. Unlike a residential lot roommate services are not available.

The worst part of apartments is that, you have to have enough space for other 7 sims.First time when I made apartments, there was only 4 free rooms. And suddenly there appear 7 npc sims,so I didnt know what to do.
Fortunately,I made solution for this:I have MasterController so some npc was paired as a lovers, friends, siblings and even families and was puted together in one room. But still I hope there will be some modders who will make better apartments system, like that we have in sims 2,just without limits.

That sounds like a great solution, Nemiga.

I had an extra bed and 5 Sims showed up, but you can decide how many roommates you want with the real estate menu.
