This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime, Supernatural, Seasons, University Life, Island Paradise
Need help installing custom world without launcher.
A little background first: last night I installed new drivers for my graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GT 520M, in case anyone asks). After installing them, my launcher stopped working. I got the message, "The application has failed to initialize (0xc00000fd)." After doing some googling around I became pretty sure that this error was caused by the new graphics drivers, but haven't been able to find a way to fix it other than reinstalling Windows. I have already attempted to reinstall the drivers and roll them back, but I'm not capable of doing the latter for some reason. So basically, my launcher is completely unusable.

However, I just did a fresh install of my game as well, and really want a couple of custom worlds to play in. I'm trying to install the latest St Claire update without using the launcher via these instructions: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...ut_The_Launcher

However, I've run into a couple of issues... they are:
1. The instructions say "Locate the largest size package, rename it to riverview.world..." There is only one package extracted from the sims3pack file for St Claire. I'm not sure if this is a problem.
2. Next, "extract STBL's to riverview.package in your working folder." I have no idea how to do this, and googling around to try and find out hasn't help. In addition, if I followed the preceding step I no longer have a stclaire.package file to extract TO, just a stclaire.world file.

That's as far as I've been able to get. Can anyone explain this more clearly? And if anyone has suggestion on how to fix my launcher I'm all ears too, but I've pretty much given it up for lost at this point.

Sorry for the massive post, I just wanted to be clear about everything!

Since you just recently installed your game, have you attempted to try the launcher with new user files? Simply goto Documents\Electronic Arts folder and rename "The Sims 3" folder to "The Sims 3 Old", then attempt to start the launcher. If launcher still doesn't work, have you attempted to start the game by bypassing the launcher? See Game Help:TS3 Bypassing the Launcherwiki.

As far as installing worlds without the launcher, I'm assuming you're referring to this - Game Help:TS3 Installing Worlds Without The Launcherwiki. The guide was primarily written for EA Store Worlds, when launcher fails to work or install them properly. In some testing, custom worlds do not appear to need some of the steps to work, see below:

  1. Create a working folder on your desktop or other location, name it whatever you want
  2. Place the customworldname.Sims3Pack in the working folder
  3. Run Sims 3 Pack Multi-Extracter
    • make sure you set the input and output to your working folder
  4. Locate the largest size package (it may be the only .package), rename it to customworldname.world
    • This is easier if you choose View > Details and then Sort > Size
  5. Move customworldname.world to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds
    • You will see SunsetValley.world in the same folder
  6. Move the remaining .package files (if there are any) to your Mods\Packages folder
  7. Test your game

Make sure to replace "customworldname" with the name you want the world to have, usually the same as the sims3pack.

I have tried with the new user files, I actually reinstalled my game because of this problem! There's no difference, which is what leads me to believe that it's a problem with my computer/drivers. The game runs fine if I bypass the launcher.

Thank you! The instructions I read were less clear about what steps I could skip with a custom world.
